ummm.. jmo but I think regardless of the SYG law, even if it was repealed, I doubt very much that would stop anyone as stupid as Zimmy.. The Zimmys of FL (and the US) think they have the right to carry concealed weapons and use them.. So imo, the law is not that relevant in stopping this from happening again since stupid people will continue doing stupid things.. What the law is tho is its a "get out of jail" card.. and it should not be a loophole for anyone (stupid or otherwise) to get away with murder..

That would be quite an interesting reaction. "Had to be put into a situation"?

There is no dispute that he is the only one who put himself in that situation; by getting out of his vehicle, following someone walking home from the store, ignoring the dispatcher's statement that he did not need to do that and continuing pursuit, his knowledge that police were en route, and finally by getting close enough to the pedestrian to cause a confrontation.

There is no circumstance by which Z "had" to be put into that situation, it was completely of his own volition and not in any way forced or required. Even people watching an actual crime taking place do not "have" to respond in any way, though the sane person would likely call 911 and either remain at a safe distance or remove himself from the scene entirely if any threat of danger were sensed.

sooooo.. now Zimmy's lawyers have resigned (at least temporarily) since Zimmy has not been returning their phone calls, emails or texts since Sunday.. and the say they know where he is (supposedly

) and he is not in Florida any longer.. interesting.. I wonder if he really is where they think he is and if he is finally charged,.. I wonder if he will turn himself in or not..

eta- geeze.. I hope he doesnt try to make a run for the Canadian border..

What you say is true regarding criminal/statutory law and stupid people. But this scenario is nevertheless not as likely to occur in the future because of civil (tort) law regarding neighborhood watch groups and neighborhood and condo associations. We don't know yet what damages the neighbors in this case will be held accountable for, possibly not any. But rest assured that these groups across the country are now well aware of the danger of financial ruin for residents within such associations. The relevant lawyers will come up with whatever procedures and protocols for the associations necessary to prevent a nut case such as Zimm. from being turned loose on their streets.

True.. we wont know if the family will sue the HOA/residents over Martin's death or not..

As for associations changing policies, etc.. if they were legit recognized NW then their policies already state not to follow and not to carry firearms (from what has been already said).. its the dumb associations like Zimmy's HOA that needs the wake-up call.. I hope they all heed it..

but even if Zimmy had not been a self-appointed NW & had HOA approval or if he did not live in a gated community at all, imo he, as a cop wannabe Dirty Harry type, still would have felt it was his right as a "concerned citizen" that he would have acted in exactly the same manner as he did.. And in time people will forget about what happened and have to relearn the lesson again.. unfortunately..

What the FUCK DO YOU MEAN, 'had to be put into a situation'? Absent Zimmerman's negligence, there would have been no situation. Zimmerman was the ROOT CAUSE of the 'situation'.

All Zimmerman had to do was NOTHING and he wouldn't have killed someone.
