— "There’s essentially no correlation between immigrants and violent crime." (Jörg Spenkuch, Northwestern University, 2014. Published by the university.) He did find a small correlation between immigration and property crime, but only a slight one.

Unfortunately and sadly for America, the gop knows that if someone with any media presence makes the 'bigoted/sexist/anti-gay/take your pick' comments and then backs them up with a fox-puker or two or sarah palin then wha-lah !.....the hateful false narrative becomes real.

New Hampshire Voters Bemoan Size of G.O.P. Field

• “This race feels more like a spectator sport than an election. Having all these candidates is a real problem, because it’ll be hard to hear each of them. I’m interested in Jeb Bush, but it’s not easy to pay attention to just one when there are so many.”

• The likely field of 16 Republican candidates is stirring frustration, particularly among voters who say they feel more overwhelmed, even ambivalent, than ever before about their long-cherished responsibilities in holding the nation’s first primary.

• Some voters said they were already dreading the weeks of political fliers stuffed in their mailboxes, of campaign volunteers at their doors during the day and of television ads and automated phone calls all through the night.

• “Maybe I’ll just vote for the one who leaves me alone the most,” said Tim Sullivan, a Republican from Gilford. He compared his party’s pack of candidates to “a clown car where they never stop coming out.”

• “I can’t keep track of all of them. It’s ridiculous,”

• “It feels like a lot of Republicans are running for the recognition or to get a TV gig or another job, not because they actually believe they could win the presidency,”

• “I like paying attention, but they have to get their act together, really,”

• “I don’t think Iowa’s going to solve anything "

• “Every day there are two more Republicans jumping into the race, but hopefully the debates will help us sort all of this out,”

The problem is, Trump was speaking of crimes committed by ILLEGAL immigrants:

More than 1,000 criminal aliens released into the community while awaiting deportation in 2014 were convicted of still more crimes after their release, including kidnapping, sexual assault against a child and vehicular homicide, according to statistics released Tuesday by Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte...

to the topic at hand---and I think ive said this before---while I don't personally like this many candidates running, im also able to see it as a major indictment as to the way the country's been going, and an honest trepidation of another 4-8 yrs of it under Hillary Clinton.

I think the format for the republican "debate" on fox, coming up in just a few weeks, is unfortunate.

rather than the top ten (if I am remembering rightly), id rather watch 4 different debates over a period of a handful of days, with the first having the #1 candidate in it, the second having #2, the third having #3 and the 4th having #4, and with the remaining 4 positions each day being filled by candidates 5-16.

I think ive mentioned this before too---id rather the primary work more like Olympic host cities are picked, with round robin voting as opposed to states having primaries so widely (wildly?) spaced apart. by the time 3/4 of the country gets to vote, their choices are already limited/constricted by the small handful of states who voted before them.

everyone votes, the bottom 1/3 are dropped out for the next round of voting. everyone votes again and some other portion of the bottom are dropped out, and thusly, until its down to between 2-3 candidates.

I like ted cruz, rand paul, bobby Jindal and scott walker.

I fear though we are going to end up with jeb bush as a candidate, but boy I hope not.

I suspect what would happen, much like with McCain and Romney, that people would stay home and not vote because he's not their favorite candidate and the democrat would win.

As everyone knows, Hillary Clinton is now officially running for the presidency of the United States.

I wish her the best of success, and I plan not only to vote for her but to contribute (modestly) to her campaign and make phone calls for her in the fall of 2016. But her opening salvo gives me pause.

Measured against all the campaign-kickoff speeches that have been made in the past 50 years or so, hers surely tops the list for brevity and casualness. In a video just over two minutes long, a montage of various men, women and children who are all eager to start something new (such as having a baby or tackling a new job) is followed by 30 seconds of the candidate herself, who tells us that she is running for president to fight for "everyday Americans" who need "a champion" in "tough economic times," when "the deck is still stacked in favor of those at the top."

Thus she throws a populist bone to the Warrenite Dems on the left. But since her campaign is already seeking contributions from everyday Americans like me, I can't understand why our champion will need $2.5 billion of our money to gain the White House.

Donald Trump continued his feud with Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) Saturday when he criticized the military record of the onetime prisoner of war.

"He's a war hero because he was captured," Trump said during an appearance at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa, on Saturday. "I like people who weren't captured."

"Perhaps he's a war hero, but right now he's said some very bad things about a lot of people."

McCain spent five and a half years in a North Vietnam prison where he was tortured after his Skyhawk dive bomber was shot down in 1967. President Barack Obama, who defeated McCain in the 2008 presidential race, has praised the Arizona senator as a "genuine war hero."

Trump avoided the draft with four student and one medical deferments.

Trump and McCain have gone back and forth this week after the Arizona senator told The New Yorker that Trump "fired up the crazies" with comments he made about undocumented immigrants during a rally in Phoenix. Trump, in characteristic fashion, fired back on Twitter, calling McCain a "dummy."

Trump said that he would not apologize to McCain for the comments, and defended his deferments to reporters. During a media availability after the comments, he denied that he had questioned McCain's military record.

"I am not blaming John McCain. He gets captured, he gets captured. People get captured. They are brave men because they were in the field," Trump said.

Several of Trump's Republican rivals were quick to come to McCain's defense, and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry said that Trump was "unfit" to be president and should drop out of the race. The Republican National Committee also distanced itself from Trump's comments.

"Senator McCain is an American hero because he served his country and sacrificed more than most can imagine. Period. There is no place in our party or our country for comments that disparage those who have served honorably," the RNC said in a statement.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) also weighed in on Trump, saying that the business mogul had only harmed himself with his comments.
