Donald Trump Jr. Criticizes London Mayor After Deadly Attack

It has become something of an online custom in the social media age to react to tragic news stories — like Wednesday’s attack in London — with well-meaning if sometimes rote messages like “thoughts and prayers.” But that does not appear to be Donald Trump Jr.’s style.

“You have to be kidding me?!” Mr. Trump said Wednesday afternoon on Twitter, as details of the episode — which left at least five dead, including the assailant, and 40 injured — continued to unfold. The message continued, “Terror attacks are part of living in big city, says London Mayor Sadiq Khan.”

Mr. Trump, the oldest son of President Trump, was calling attention to an article from September in The Independent, a British newspaper, that described Mr. Khan’s reaction to a bombing then in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City.

You have to be kidding me?!: Terror attacks are part of living in big city, says London Mayor Sadiq Khan http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/sadiq-khan-london-mayor-terrorism-attacks-part-and-parcel-major-cities-new-york-bombing-a7322846.html

Sadiq Khan has said he believes the threat of terror attacks are “part and parcel of living in a big city” and encouraged Londoners to be vigilant to combat dangers.
Mr. Trump mischaracterized the London mayor’s remarks. Mr. Khan did not describe terrorism as “part of living in a big city,” as if bombings and shootings were an inescapable fact of life. He said that terrorism preparedness, including providing sufficient support to the police, was “part and parcel of living in a great global city.”

“That means being vigilant, having a police force that is in touch with communities; it means the security services being ready, but it also means exchanging ideas and best practice,” Mr. Khan said in a video interview published by The Evening Standard, another British paper. (For the record, Mr. Khan did say the victims of the Chelsea bombing were in his “thoughts and prayers.”)

I don't know if that claim is true of the USA, but it certainly doesn't apply to Australia where counter terrorist authorities publicly thank co-operation with the Muslim community here for their role in preventing both terrorist incidents and terrorist recruiting here.

I don't see any reason why that shouldn't be the case in the US too, assuming that your counter intelligence people are at least as savvy as ours. I do know that our right wingers here often make similar sounds to your claim. What they don't realise is that extremism is condemned just as much in the Muslim community as it is elsewhere.

It's more accurate to say that those making these types of claims aren't listening to Muslims and consequently have no idea what happens in the Muslim community, in particular they have no knowledge of how critical and influential the role of the Muslim community is in countering terrorism.

tough on Twitter arguing with

been so brave.

Once when he visited Oxford, he
decided he wanted to go to the
Zodiac club. First he sent
people in to check he could come
in. Then he sent more people to
sweep the venue before he finally
turned up himself, surrounded by
security. Don Jr headed straight
for the "VIP" section but was so
terrified of the people in there,

he turned round and walked
straight out on his lime green

You just have no idea, do you?

What a blind world of prejudice you live in.

That exactly happens and has happened in the UK. Muslims have even turned to the authorities to stop members of their families from travelling to Syria.

The government sponsored "Prevent" strategy might be a bit heavy-handed and counter-productive, but Muslims do act to act to inform the Police, put themselves in harm's way during attacks and support victims.

Let's be clear they do this no more than do any other ethnic or religious group in the UK, but here's the point, they also do it no less either. Terrorism is a terrible scourge but Muslims in the UK play their part in fighting it as members.

Just like any other group, they do not look for special praise, but they do not deserve the narrow minded prejudice that casts them all as terrorists or terrorist sympathisers.

You do realise don't you that most of the people who die at the hands of Islamic terrorists are Muslims, and that most of the people in the world taking up arms to fight Islamic terrorists are Muslims?

Your hatred gouges out one eye and your ignorance the other. You can then only see the fantasy images in your own head.

Muslims slaughtering other Muslims isn't something to brag about, they are so bloodthirsty that even they don't live up to the fanatic standards of their blood soaked book

Muslims mostly slaughter other Muslims because that's who they're mostly around, after they have slaughtered everyone else where they have immigrated to. Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, all of these predominantly Muslim places are often around 99% Muslim because the original inhabitants who were there before the jihadis arrived have been murdered or forced to either flee join in the bloodshed. There used to be great multicultural civilizations before Islam destroyed everything and everyone. Jews, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists and many others - gone.

Now that everyone else is gone the Muslims turn on each other, and you think that's something to brag about

Well, this is *not* going to fit into this thread, as it's now become, but, for what it's worth:

I do feel a special kind of sorrow about Kurt Cochran, the American tourist who was killed. I really don't like to think of visitors to my country coming to any harm - especially the ultimate kind of harm. Something like: he was a guest in my home and I didn't manage to look after him well enough. If that makes any kind of sense.
