3500 miles ? That's about 4 days at her top speed or 5 to 6 days at her cruising speed, so if she's NOT off Korea now, yep, that nice Mister Trump has lost her ( or at least his minions have).

Why the assumption that she would break off immediately and ring up full speed?

Dvr22999874 -> RE: The great military genius (4/18/2017 6:53:38 PM)

Why not ?................ I would say the panic over North Korea would tend to be a little more important that exercises with the R.A.N. such as it is and if that nice Mister Trump says for it to get there, I would say he means to get there NOW !! Even if they took 24 hours for her to break off, she would STILL be in Korean waters by now, even at cruising speed.

Panic? What panic?

she's just on her way up there because that's where we thought it was most prudent to have her at this time ~Source

Prudent ? So thump the table and rattle your sabre. That's the prudent thing to do.

What speed would YOU say she would make once the order was given for her to head to Korean waters; remembering that her cruising speed is about 30+ knots and she only has about 3500 miles to go ?

The Sunda strait is south of singapore, Korea is to the north.....

Well aren't you the geography whiz. The Vinson, however, was operating several hundred miles south of Singapore, taking part in exercises with Australian forces in the Indian ocean (map). It's participation was curtailed by the April 8th order and it began heading north sometime thereafter, passing through the Sunda Strait three days ago on its way to Korean waters.

You might want to try reading your own links (here).

SOUTH CHINA SEA (April 8, 2017) The aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) transits the South China Sea. The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group is on a regularly scheduled Western Pacific deployment as part of the U.S. Pacific Fleet-led initiative to extend the command and control functions of U.S. 3rd Fleet. U.S Navy aircraft carrier strike groups have patrolled the Indo-Asia-Pacific regularly and routinely for more than 70 years. The ship was in the South China Sea on the 8th... not the Indian Ocean.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: The great military genius (4/18/2017 7:06:17 PM)

That sure puts her a LOT closer to Korea, wouldn't you say ?

And then 7 days later she passes Sunda Strait, at the southern most part of the South China Sea steaming south...
in the direction totally not towards Korea...

Dvr22999874 -> RE: The great military genius (4/18/2017 7:25:48 PM)

So, where is she now ? It gets more confusing as time goes by *smile*. If she was heading south, she would be off either the east or west coast of Australia now, or points west or east of those.

It looks like you may be right. Lucy's "Defense News" link states the following:

the ships were actually operating several hundred miles south of Singapore, taking part in scheduled exercises with Australian forces in the Indian Ocean. On Saturday – according to photographs released by the U.S. Navy – the carrier passed north through the Sunda Strait, the passage between the Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Java.

But according to the U.S. Navy, the Vinson wasn't anywhere near the Sunda Strait on April 15th.

Release Date: 4/9/2017 12:42:00 PM

USS CARL VINSON, At Sea (NNS) -- Adm. Harry Harris, commander, U.S. Pacific Command, has directed the Carl Vinson Strike Group to sail north and report on station in the Western Pacific Ocean after departing Singapore April 8.

I was wrong; her cruising speed is about 30+ knots, so about 700 to 750 miles a day. her top speed is estimated to be about 40 to 45 knots, so guess at about 1000 miles a day. She should easily be off Korea by now or very shortly

But she can only go as fast as the slowest ship in the group.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: The great military genius (4/18/2017 10:07:22 PM)

Which would HAVE to be 30+ knots, surely Bama ? If that's the case, why is the Pentagon now saying she will be on station SOMETIME next week ? What's the slowest in the group ? The USS Constitution??? *smile*

Where's Steven Seagal when he's needed?

They are participating as part of the 'Foul Eagle' annual combat exercise with Republic of Korea forces.

The idea being that your forces aren't exactly stationed just off the coasts, but rather are often deployed out at sea on regular routine patrols before they get the call that they need to be on station for combat ops. So the US forces in the area are deployed doing mundane things when they suddenly get re-tasked to the combat zone, forcing the group to drop everything they're doing, plot a course, then coordinate their movement with other area forces.

The combat exercise takes place during the month of April, and concludes (usually) around the 30th.

Eventually she is going to get up there...

She is going to get there, but not because Trump ordered her on station because of escalating tension...

What tensions are those and who is doing the escalating?

Refuses to broadcast intentions: What kind of military genius indeed

quote:

"I'm not saying I'm doing anything one way or another, but I'm certainly not going to be telling you," he told reporters...

Yet he was adamant that he would not telegraph any potential U.S. military retaliation, saying anew that that was a mistake the Obama administration had repeatedly made.

Standing alongside Jordan's King Abdullah II at a news conference, Trump appeared to adopt the first part of Obama's stance — that chemical weapons use is intolerable — while stopping short of saying what might come next.

WickedsDesire -> RE: The great military genius (4/19/2017 10:43:04 AM)

Do you mean he lied like fuk when he said the Armada was steaming to North Korea?

North Korea tension: US 'armada' was not sailing to Korean peninsula

A US aircraft carrier and other warships did not sail towards North Korea - but went in the opposite direction, it has emerged.
The US Navy said on 8 April that the Carl Vinson strike group was travelling to the Korean peninsula amid tensions over Pyongyang's nuclear ambitions.
Last week President Trump said an "armada" was being sent. Guffaws guffaws
