This little girl showed up at my niece's house for two days.

And niece brought her out to my place after trying to locate an owner.

No collar, no chip, no lip tat, and max 6 months old.

I am going to attempt to find if she has an owner in the area, but considering this is an after bath and brush pic, she had been running for a while.

Her markings are identical to Kera's with the exception of eye color.

Since her bath, she has been either next to my chair, under my desk or after a bit of convincing, watching tv from my bed.

The other wolf hybrid [image]http://collarspace.com/photos/663887p05.jpg[/image] Princess decided she wanted the little girl to play with her, after she did the mother thing and clean her ears.

Aaaw.

Well after watching her all day, there is one thing very apparent, whoever had her was not the kindest sort of person.

If your voice goes over a certain level (including calling for someone in the other end of the house) she tucks her tail and cowers in a corner.

Considering how matted her coat was, and the large number of burrs we had to remove, I would say either she has been on her own for a while.

Have you named her yet?

Lucylastic -> RE: A strange little lady showed up.... (7/11/2017 3:52:05 PM)

i would call her MINE

jlf1961 -> RE: A strange little lady showed up.... (7/11/2017 4:53:05 PM)

Calling her Waya, Cherokee for wolf.

I would have been happy calling her River, from firefly, but nope, she seems to respond to Waya.

Not a good sign at all.

Do you know somebody who could check her to see if she's got a chip in her neck without handing her over to the authorities?

I'm glad she found her way to you. Considering her timid reaction to loud voices, I wouldn't go searching too hard. If there aren't flyers out and notices in the paper under "lost" (which if my baby was lost, I'd be papering lost photos all over the county) then accept she found her way home to you.

Wounded creatures need to find their way to the right people. Seems to me she did.

Yes, our vet will.

Thing is that under Texas law, animal abuse is a felony, and since dogs react and exhibit the same basic signs of being abused, a dogs behavior is an accepted way to determine animal cruelty and abuse. (I am sure some dickless wonder on this board that likes to tell everyone how wrong they are will post to tell me this is wrong.)

So, if she has a chip and the owner is found, and the vet agrees with my determination (considering I do volunteer work with ASPCA locally and he is the local ASPCA go to vet) the charges will be filed and the animal will remain in my custody.

Of course, right now, my truck is in the shop (the one the state says is legal for road use) so I am without wheels.

Now as for the morning update.

Last night she slept with me on my bed, and rested very well as long as my hand was on her (I move my hand, she woke up and started nudging me)

She did not eat this morning, although she wolfed down her food last night at feeding time.

We have had no accidents, she goes out with the rest of the dogs (having two people in the house with chronic insomnia means some one is always up to take them out 24/7)

I have not taken her for a long walk, since she cowers and tucks her tail as soon as you put a leash on her.

She will not, even outside, bark. I am serious, the other dogs bark at the drop of a hat and she will not bark with them.

After every dog in the house attempting to get her to play, I finally managed that last night, I got her running, wagging her tail and playing until my knee buckled and then she stopped.

This morning she played a little bit with the other dogs, and again even though they were barking, she would not.

WhoreMods -> RE: A strange little lady showed up.... (7/12/2017 11:30:55 AM)

That's good to know. (I didn't know Texas law worked like that: a sensible and serious to solving cruelty to domestic animals. I'm impressed by that.)

The not barking thing sounds weird. Could that be connected to the shying from a lead thing because she's somehow hurt her throat? Probably the first thing you checked for, but I've seen dogs all but strangle themselves shedding a collar, even if she's obviously been living rough for a while, there could be some injury there that's not showing.

jlf1961 -> RE: A strange little lady showed up.... (7/12/2017 7:19:22 PM)

Well, one bark since she got here, and as soon as she did, she acted as if she expected to be punished.

We have also noticed that she will not enter a room (or the house for that matter) unless you tell her to.

As for her behavior around me, if I am at my computer, she is next to me (finally convinced her there is not enough room for her and my size 13EE feet under the desk,) if I get up to go to the bathroom, she follows and waits by the door, I leave the room, she is at my heals.

The other dogs have been partially successful in getting her involved in play, but for the most part she basically sits in one spot and does not move.

Unlike many pet owners, we do not forbid the dogs from getting on the furniture, but we have to litarally pick her up and put her on a bed, coach or whatever before she gets up on something.

She was on my bed and princess jumped up on it and she went to get off but princess put a size 14 paw on her and literally (strange since Princess will not share the bed or couch with anyone) made her lay back down and stay.

In fact, Princess, the stand offish royal bitch, has taken a great interest in the new comer. She is the one that is most insistent about Waya playing, she actually stands guard while Waya eats or drinks (we have no food aggressive dogs) and that is the only way the little newcomer will eat without stopping at the slightest sound.

Jasper, the owner of every tennis ball in the known universe (his opinion,) even gave her one of his tennis balls.
Blu is sharing his blankie (the only dog he shared with was Kera.)
Buddy, the 16 year old rat terrier has taken to washing her ears, immediately after Princess does this chore.

And she is nearly piddles when you give her positive attention. Scratch her ears and after the initial cower when you reach for her, she actually relaxes.

ShaharThorne -> RE: A strange little lady showed up.... (7/12/2017 7:30:33 PM)

Waya is definitely going to need positive reinforcement. My parents used to take in abused Cocker Spaniels and Lizard has a German Shepard/Bernese mix that was shouted at to say the least.. The mixed is spoiled now (she will climb in bed with me when I go to Austin) and except for one incident has been getting along with my friend's other dogs. I don't mind the sharing but the doggie breath...EWWW!!!

HaveRopeWillBind -> RE: A strange little lady showed up.... (7/12/2017 7:48:54 PM)

Doesn't bark and shy of collars sounds as though someone has kept one of those anti-barking shock collars on her.

I'd not thought of that, but it definitely sounds right.

Well, I have finally managed to get her to a point where she does not cower all the time.

Now, she does have this strange habit.

I will be laying on the bed watching tv or reading and I will notice her sitting at the foot of the bed peeking over the edge watching me, as soon as I snap my fingers she is up on the bed laying next to me wanting attention (belly rub.)

At night she sleeps on the bed and has claimed 'her' pillow. Specifically one special pillow. I can change the pillow case when I change the sheets and she will drag 'her' pillow out of the pile and will lie with her head on the pillow.

DesFIP -> RE: A strange little lady showed up.... (7/23/2017 6:26:16 PM)

As long as she lets you wash the pillow case.

Must have been that Dwarf Sister of yours that showed up!

LadyPact -> RE: A strange little lady showed up.... (8/26/2017 10:35:43 AM)

I didn't want to steal your thunder.

So, it came to pass that I was returning from "elsewhere" on a Monday evening. He's standing there, holding this cream-colored thing. I wasn't even two steps in the door.

"Before you say anything..."

(This is code for 'husband did something" that I don't approve of.)

So, here he stands, holding this little "thing".

The story goes, while I was out, MP has let Natasha and Brandi to the back to do their business. When MP went to check on them, Brand appeared to be playing with a bone. Then, he noticed the "bone" had ears. He darted across the lawn to 'save' it from being licked to death. Such peril!![8|]

Turns out, this kitten had wandered into our yard. No idea of where it came from. She just... Showed up.

Before *I* got home, MP took it around the neighborhood to see if it had an owner. Checked at the vet. Looked for posters on corners.

It was pretty much a done deal by the time I got home. They already loved the little thing. It was adopted before I ever showed up.

MP had given her a name that didn't suit her. I re-named her "Elle". So, Elle she was.

Upon finding, Elle looked like your common/ordinary Siamese kitten. The vet said she was approx 6-8 weeks old. No chip. No lost posters.

Two really cool things. Elle has four, different, unique paws. Nobody could mistake her for another cat.

She also has a mark under her left eye. It looks like a teardrop.

The dogs love her! Brandi bathes her on the regular. Natasha thinks she's a "little" that should be loved. Reptar? Reptar became a Daddy Cat!!! From food, to play, to the box, he took on this teaching role. Even when I had kissed the kitten on the head, he cleaned the lipstick off.
