Greta75 -> Can someone explain to me why jokes on Weinstein is offensive? (10/15/2017 9:38:08 PM)

Why making jokes about Trump alleged sexual assault on women is funny and every late night show host and comedians won't stop using that as a gag!

Whereas James Corden jokes about Harvey's sexual assault is considered offensive?

What is the logic?

http://edition.cnn.com/2017/10/15/entertainment/james-corden-apology-harvey-weinstein/index.html

Why is it only funny when it's about Trump?

Some media explained that it is the timing and too close to the incident.

But with Trump "grab the pussy" comments, it was also close to incident, the timing. And there were plenty more jokes alluding to him lusting after his daughter too. Which people thought was funny and laughed along.

I haven't seen the performance yet to judge whether offensive or not. But I'm really not a fan of James Corden. If I had to make a guess, I'd say the jokes just weren't funny.

It is funny about Trump because he didn't do it and some people think an accusation is hilarious. Trump talked about how "groupies" would let him do about anything to them without complaint. Locker room B.S. talk but no actual evidence producing accusations against Trump.

Weinstein did take actions that are verified and he confessed to them. Hollywood and film arts in general have a history of toleration for what the rest of society considers deviant behavior. Weinstein was not only tolerated but lauded until evidence was published that couldn't be talked away.

Also, it isn't funny to the entertainment world when one of their own gets prosecuted.

Sexual assault seriously isn't funny. But comedians have been making jokes non-stop about Trump grabbing women's pussy and making people laugh because of it. That's the thing! I think everyone from Kimmel, Seth and Colbert has made so many grab the pussy joke about Trump but not one of them have to apologise to women who genuinely got attacked that way. They have essentially trivalise it too.

10 out women detailing uninvited sexual assault, So Far, none groupies. It will be interesting to see all the reports when the court enforces the discovery subpoena. And all the women who come forward in the new atmosphere of actually blaming the perp, not the victim.
Weinstein just picked the wrong career. If he'd become a Republican, he might have really gotten somewhere. He certainly has enough qualifications.

ANY situation can be effectively joked about. Just that some comedians are funnier than others. Humor often is our last defense against unbearable pain, or outrageous fate.

groupies is an excuse, he never mentioned groupies at all, and by him I mean trump

They're making jokes directly about Trump, and the words that have come out of his mouth.

Corden's jokes were horrible. The gathering was an amFAR benefit, Elizabeth Taylor's AIDS Research charity, which just deserves better. But he has had all week to speak his mind on his TV show, unless someone told him the jokes were shit.

Ultimately, if you're the MC or host of an event, and you have possible victims in your audience, possible accomplices, and likely people taking up both sides of the issue, then pushing that envelope would be disrespectful to everyone, especially the event itself, which is about raising money for AIDS Research.

One of my personal opinions is that because it's in really bad taste trying to turn the Weinstein subject into a comedy routine so early when victims are at a period of difficult time of processing.

JVoV -> RE: Can someone explain to me why jokes on Weinstein is offensive? (10/16/2017 11:46:51 AM)

It was fine on SNL's Weekend Update.

LadyPact -> RE: Can someone explain to me why jokes on Weinstein is offensive? (10/16/2017 12:19:25 PM)

SNL doing it doesn't mean it was in good taste.

JVoV -> RE: Can someone explain to me why jokes on Weinstein is offensive? (10/16/2017 12:34:34 PM)

Comedy doesn't have to be 'in good taste' to be funny.

The Weekend Update segment was funny. The 'Film Panel' segment, not so much.

It's simple: Humiliating the President (or someone {else} in power) is gutter humor....MOST people prefer gutter humor.

(Few...for the record...could stand up to the same abuse...even knowing that...there are very few facts behind most...of...same).

What the world wants is a VICTIM....so they can KICK THEM......they just don't want to be THAT victim and....as long as the spotlights are on someone else.....

....they ain't....on them.

(And dat be da troooof).

This is what Bosco, respectmen and Awareness called them too.
I don't know which alt-right PUA blogs or forums they got their info from, though.

The kind of women that Trump was talking about. That they were consensual.

I bet nobody would wear a shirt that says, "Harvey Weinstein could wank into the plant infront of me anytime!"

JVoV -> RE: Can someone explain to me why jokes on Weinstein is offensive? (10/16/2017 7:34:33 PM)

I just can't wrap my mind around how you grab something like that. From behind, and do it like a bowling ball?
