Here is a question that I have been curious about ever since I joined Collarme.

Why is it that so many submissives/slaves seem to take pride and brag about being "bratty"? Does this word have a different meaning in BDSM, D/s, & M/s than in every other circumstance?

I know that when I raised my son, if someone came to me and said, "Wow you should be so proud, your son is such a little brat!" I would have been more than a little confused.

Both Dom & sub encouraged to give their 2 cents.

They confuse strength with a lack of the ability to excercise emotional self-control.

Behaving like an ass doesn't make you superior.

Good question.  To me being bratty is have a tad more spunk and enthusiasm than perhaps a really good sub might have.  My Dom does not call me bratty tho and has let me know that there are times when i may use my fine brain to create fun from us and times when to save my behind or other parts i should be a very good girl.  As for being proud of me, i have no doubt He is very proud of me regardless of when i am being completely submissive or a tad sassy or bratty.

Thank you for the honest reply.

There is a difference between being "bratty" in the coy, playful or spunky sense.....and being mouthy, immature, annoying and a willfully disobedient brat. Unfortunately, some don't know the difference. While I can see the above "playful" definition as a possible enhancement to a fun relationship, provided of course that the sub understands there is a time and place for it.....I don't however, see any reason to take pride in being an obnoxious immature "brat".

Amen to everything you said. I love a bright, witty, clever, playful, even smart-assed woman, and everything has its time and place.

I think you really nailed the difference well. Thank you

My Sir sometimes refers to me as bratty but it is most often when i have been cheeky in a harmless way. I guess i take it as a term of endearment from him.
I may be back to edit this shortly when he reads it and disagrees lol.

I have to admit, I never post here, although I've had a profile for eons. But this one scrolled past me and I couldn't pass it up.I'm one of those "brats". Do I do it non stop? No. But I do tend to attract a certain type of Dominant male who wants/likes/needs that defiance and mouthiness. Am I capable of moving beyond it? Sure. Will I? Only if I feel like it. I'm fairly well educated, well read, I've traveled, can be taken in public (although I've thrown a tantrum or two on occasion) and my submission is a very complete thing to the right Sir. But on occasion, yes, when I'm asked "did that hurt?" my answer has been known to be "well actually, no, if you could get up higher though I have this devil of an itch...."

I'm proud of it b/c my Owner enjoys it. He likes that I don't feel it's "unsubmissive" to tease him and play with him. He'd get real bored, real fast if I never whapped him on the arm, or never called him a smelly boy. He likes that I can both obey him and tease him.

I call my baby a brat sometimes too, usually right before she gets a spanking.

PS; she is British as well, from Preston, and is on a plane right now headed back there for a two week vacation. Small world...

I don't understand the "pride" in being bratty either.  I especially don't understand those dominants who claim to despise bratty behavior while simultaneously rewarding it by giving the brat the attention they are attempting to garner with their bratty behavior.
Personally, bratty behavior in others grates on my last nerve.

I could not agree more, she is by far the best thing that has ever happened to this humble man. And yes I am an American and she lives here, has since 2000.

I tend to be bratty/sassy in nature, but I never do it in a disrespectful way.  I am bratty in a playful, fun way.  Am I proud of it?  Sometimes.  Why?  Because I like to be a brat sometimes, and its just in my nature.  Can I turn it off?  Yes, when it isnt called for I can act perfectly submissive and obedient when it is called for.

Some think being bratty is cute. I choose not to deliberately act bratty and get into trouble. Acting bratty on purpose to me is just attention seeking behavior. I would rather seek positive attention from my Master.

Because they are brats, and have little clue as to how annoying they are, and likely wouldn't care much if they did. And in my opinion, some who use the term really aren't brats, they're more playful and silly than jackasses.

Dear Morpheus07, mistoferin, Ladies and Gentlemen;

I cannot improve much on what mistoferin has written on.
Yet, even when it is in a playful moment, I would not wish such behavior to be exhibited outside of a 'role play' scene.

The key thing mistoferin touched upon so well, is the 'time and place' for such behavior to be manifested.  Since most of my friends are serious, such behavior would not be welcomed period, as it would be seen as a challenge to the authority of a M/s or D/s relationship and, thus deemed disrespectful.

In my mind's eye, I have been more agreeable to the spunky or playfulness of a submissive/slave in my earlier days of M/s but, as I have aged/matured my personal tastes prefers the gentle humor, wit and respectful interactions between the submissive/slave/servant and I.

Respectfully submitted for consideration,
Lady Hugs
