INTJ here.

As for as BDSM orientation, I'm primarly a dominant and masochist, enjoy subbing with one particular partner.

Hey all perverts and myersbriggsians....

Back when I was still a sick-ologist
I trained quite a bit in MyersBriggsBunk....

It has some uses, for sure,
but think of the over-riding metaphor
that is used in this system.

Take a test.
Then we put you in
one of sixteen boxes.

I don't fit well in a box,
and I'm sure most of you readers don't either....
(even if your master does lock you up in one from time to time, eh?)

I think M-B blows the whole thing
by not allowing for how different we all are
in different contexts....

A fine surgeon can be a really effective T (defaults to thinking under stress)
when she's in the operating room,
and an equally fine F (goes to feelings under stress)
when her baby girl comes home sobbing from being hurt at school.

So, this cranky old INTJ
thinks that MyersBriggsBunk
has very little to add to an understanding
of thiskinkythingthatwedo.

I'm an INTJ. The N (intuition) is pretty weak--I'm close to an ISTJ. The I and the T are both very strong in me--I'm an "introverted thinker."

It's said that INTJs project self-confidence and certainty in a very concrete way. INTJs become erudite, and test their knowledge, and think carefully about it, and once they have proven their mastery to themselves, their erudition prompts them to be confident and authoritative in that area. That's a trait I've been said to possess, and once it was pointed out to me (out of the context of Myers-Briggs), I noticed it as a pattern, too. I behave more authoritatively when I know that I know what I'm doing.

Vendaval's quote about INTJs wanting a rational universe, where people "make sense," is spot on. I've never heard it phrased quite that way before, but I like it. But as Vendaval's post continued, I found it dissonant with my own experience. I've found that it's very easy to misunderstand me if you don't regard what I'm saying to be what I mean, and very hard to misunderstand me if you do.

ISTJs like people to keep their promises. They like rules and structures. I prefer a covenant model in my relationships, and I set explicit rules, so this is characteristic. My experience with polyamory and BDSM indicates that they both favor a little more explicit covenanting than mainstream vanilla monogamy does, which helps me with this.

In sum, my Myers-Briggs type affects how I do BDSM relationships--just as it affects how I do all relationships--but I don't see real support for it predicting that I will have a BDSM relationship.. It has somewhat to do with _how_ I develop dominance, but I don't see how it would predict _that_ I would develop dominance well. I certainly don't think it has anything to do with my fondness for tying people up and hurting them.

Some more information about INTJs -

"The Portrait of the Mastermind Rational"
 (iNTj)  http://keirsey.com/personality/ntij.html

"It is in their abilities that Masterminds differ from the other Rationals, while in most of their attitudes they are just like the others. However there is one attitude that sets them apart from other Rationals: they tend to be much more self-confident than the rest, having, for obscure reasons, developed a very strong will. They are rather rare, comprising no more than, say, one percent of the population. Being very judicious, decisions come naturally to them; indeed, they can hardly rest until they have things settled, decided, and set. They are the people who are able to formulate coherent and comprehensive contingency plans, hence contingency organizers or "entailers." "

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

INTJ FAQ's

http://fuzzy.snakeden.org/intj/

"1. Be willing to back up your statements with facts - or at least some pretty sound reasoning.

2. Don't expect them to respect you or your viewpoints just because you say so. INTJ respect must be earned.

3. Be willing to concede when you are wrong. The average INTJ respects the truth over being "right". Withdraw your erroneous comment and admit your mistake and they will see you as a very reasonable person. Stick to erroneous comments and they will think you are an irrational idiot and treat everything you say as being questionable.

4. Try not to be repetitive. It annoys them.

5. Do not feed them a line of bull."

Katy, I don't "feel" any way about these faux personality tests.  They are gimmicks, one and all.  I feel angry when people use Myers-Briggs or any of the questionable progeny (and by the way, the more online ease of taking the "test" the more questionable, usually) to limit others' choices, careers or paths.  I feel amused when people spend money on an M-B test when they could read their horoscope and get much the same warm fuzzy.  And I feel a mixture of disdain and schadenfreude when I see clueless people brag about being a "rare" M-B type.  Equating an M-B personality profile to "better than YOU" is stupid and sad.

Hey, Emperor, thanks for responding to me on that.   I often wonder how much use any of this has.  I was much more freaked by the Ennegram because I felt it was a good read on me.  I am different.  LOL

Maybe this will make my point.  Probably not, but hey...I got an hour to kill.  Here goes:

As I wrote above, one of the reasons people like Myers-Briggs is that the 16 personality types are written so that anyone can see something they want to be in the descriptions.  It is fine to be non-judgemental, but to be so warm and fuzzy in a personality analysis that the reader says "OH YES, that's me and I'm PROUD of being ME" indicates a very likely flaw in the instrument.  So in the spirit of exploration I've developed these snappy little capsules of personality theory.  Below each by the way, I've posted the original M-B descriptor.

An Open Letter to My dear INFJ friend:

INFJ

Its always, always all about you.  Everything in your world had better connect back to you and what you want, or -- be it a thought,  a person or  an object -- it is history.  Greedy.  Gossipy and one who worms their way into the relationships and private thoughts of others.  Committed to your own ideas, regardless of what evidence, experience or knowledge might say otherwise.  You know what's best for everyone else.

Some famous INFJs:   Mussolini.  Pol Pot.  Nancy Reagan

INFJ
Seek meaning and connection in ideas, relationships, and material possessions. Want to understand what motivates people and are insightful about others. Conscientious and committed to their firm values. Develop a clear vision about how best to serve the common good. Organized and decisive in implementing their vision.

To the dear INTJs among us:

INTJ
Thinks way way way outside the box.  Compulsive about getting their way.  Judgemental.  Formulates plans and explains views based on snap judgements with little or no knowledge or information.  Once you decided what's right, its always right until you are done with it.  Inflexible.  Disbelieving, demanding and cynical.  Sets unrealistic standards for self and those around you.  Will not play well with others.

INTJ
Have original minds and great drive for implementing their ideas and achieving their goals. Quickly see patterns in external events and develop long-range explanatory perspectives. When committed, organize a job and carry it through. Skeptical and independent, have high standards of competence and performance – for themselves and others.

Some Famous INTJs:   Rasputin.   George Bush.  Phyllis Schlafly

OH...and a note to myself:

ESFP
Aggressive, loud and without any real standards.  A glutton, greedy and gregarious.  A slut.  Lazy and uses the talents of those around him or her to reach a goal.  A fuck-off, but also a brown-nose.  Unable to stick to a schedule or follow the rules.  Cannot form committments and so is always jumping to new situations and new people.  Willing to abandon old friends for a perceived new benefit.

ESFP
Outgoing, friendly, and accepting. Exuberant lovers of life, people, and material comforts. Enjoy working with others to make things happen. Bring common sense and a realistic approach to their work, and make work fun. Flexible and spontaneous, adapt readily to new people and environments. Learn best by trying a new skill with other people.

See what I mean?

--E.

I am an INTP in Myers Briggs, who is equally a Generalist and Peacemaker (scored 6 in both) in the Enneagram test. But all the inkblots look like scorpions to me. Hmmm......

INT(just)J

My problem with this test is, being bipolar, I do both sides of all four pretty darned well.

Last time, when I did it with a person, I was I (N and S) (F and T) (J mostly)

So, the only thing we really know about me is that I'm introverted.  Unless I'm manic.  Or hyper.

Can I be CONFUSED, please?

Exactly.
I've taken this thing a coupla times, once with a career counselor who specialized in the thing, and found it to be pretty much nonsense.

And the reason is context (...if memory serves ~ it has been a while now since I last took it.)

My behavior is very context driven, and the test did not supply context that I could relate to.
I think I recall feeling that there was some sort of middle class cultural bias built into it, but I'm not sure if that would really be an accurate claim or not.

That's what I seem to remember, though, looking back over the somewhat hazy years.

That's just my experience: I realize other's claim to have had tremendously insightful experiences with it, and that's great for them.

It does disturb me if employers use it for employee screening, though, which I have heard happens.
