to learn things I can use in my everyday life. feng shui, herbal medicine, accupressure, I am not interested in tourest traps. A culture 5000 years old + east meets west, if combined the punch is greater then 1 along.

So- I am looking for a learning experience.

this place looks good

Have a good time.  I've been to both cities.  There's more to see and do in Bangkok, but keep a helmet on the soldier if you sample the local merchandise.  If you go to Chengdu, bring Pepto-Bismol.

Not bad food, but two things you need to watch for: microbes that your system isn't used to, and Sichuan spices that usually don't agree with Americans (at least not the first time around).  Why not go to Beijing or Shanghai--or, if you want to avoid comfortable modern cities, Xi'an?  There's a lot more to see there than in Chengdu.

The food in Bangkok is quite delicious, by the way--same problem with the microbes though.

--whereever I go- I am looking to grow...to consider new ideas. improve my life.

You sound like you have been all over the globe. Hong Kong could be good.

Hong Kong is great.  It's an authentic East Asian city, and you can leave your Pepto-Bismol at home.  It's hot, it rains a lot, and there's a ton of people in the streets.  But they don't bite.
