Asher, I hope this tempest passes swiftly.

And I hope the other stuff gets better soon too. I won't ask what's wrong unless you feel like sharing it.

I bitched about it, I ranted drunkenly about it

Well, tomorrow is my last day at the full time temporary job.  i retired once and went on Social Security.  In October last year i picked up this job as a contract adult education teacher to make a little extra money.  End of the fiscal year gave me a chance to get out.  Each day i work now they subtract money from my Social Security.

i am getting emotional about leaving...even though i want to leave.  i feel that i have been doing some good.  The students say they like me.  The management says they like me.  Everybody says they "understand" my reasons to quit.

But why do i feel so sad and like a traitor?  Do I have a "duty" to continue doing a job i do well and helps others and the community?  i'm tired, i'm old and i don't feel 100% anymore.  i want to travel to visit my grandchildren - get healthier(loose weight) - be a better slave.

ok...time to mop the floors.

if it isnt fulfilling to you then you are getting ripped off
ok, maybe its not that harsh, but still, doing something well only matters if it fulfills you

You have to do what is right for you fluffy. Sometimes though, even doing the thing that you know is best leaves you with those feelings that there must have been a better option.

ask yourself this

does what you are getting out of your situation = what you are putting into it?

I know it seems a bit mercenary, and it is.... But I have personally found that especially when applied to career choices, its thebest question to ask

My humble thoughts, for what they're worth:

-- If you think about it, it's good that you feel a bit sad about ending this job. That means you've been doing something fulfilling and valuable. If you felt nothing but joy, you might wonder if you'd wasted all that time.

-- No, you don't have a duty to keep at the job if you don't want to. There are many different ways to enrich your community. Being a good grandmother is one of them. So is volunteer work, which might be worth exploring.

-- By stepping aside, you're giving someone else (who may desperately need a job) a chance to work, shine, and serve.

-- This will sound totally goofy, but it works. Try flipping a coin about whether to work or not. Pay attention to whether you're pleased or disappointed by the coin's verdict. That may help you gauge what you really want.

-- When I was stressing over a decision, a wise friend pointed out that there was no object right answer. What would determine the rightness of my choice was how I lived it out. In other words, whatever path you choose, follow it with gusto and don't look back.

Blessings on your path!

fluffy... when we say yes to something (like visiting grand ums).... means saying no to other things.  May you find joy in knowing that you brought joy to many people... and they feel great affection to you.

Now to celebrate fluffy's moving on.... we're gonna have sloppy internet ice cream sundays with all the crazy stuff on it - wet nuts, chocolocolate, sprinkles, red hots, and lotsssssssssssss of whipped cream.

hugs folks

Tossing some potatoes and onions on the grill with some bacon on the side, fluffy,it comes down to what makes you happy and only you can answer to yourself..I was basicly in the same situation,I didn't need to work but enjoy the situation and the people there..Maybe you can stay there in a part time situation, stay below the 9000 mark and I don't believe that willn"t affect your SS..I would suggest to all the young people out there not to depend on SS or even think about trying to live on it,Invest even 25 a week stashed away at the retirement age will be substansible, flips the potatoes I like them almost burnt..

yum Bounty, you're killing me with that bacon.  speaking of bacon, has anyone noticed how much it has gone up in price?  geesh, it's not much below steak.  ridiculous if you ask me.
