See now that is a bummer, because Watermellons and grapes are two of my favorite fruits.

Over the course of one day I'll eat an entire water mellon, or well two days sometimes a week if it's super large.

I am diabetic.  I can have fruits in moderation.  But, I have noticed that certain fruits will raise my blood sugars level more than others.  Pineapple, watermelon, cherries and bananas are a few I have to be cautious with.  Apples, grapes, pears, and peaches are "friendlier" for me.

Since going on an injectible medication about a month ago, I've noticed that white starches will drive my sugar levels higher than whole grains.

But no matter what foods you eat, moderation is key.  I just wish I'd have listened years ago, so that I wouldn't have to stick myself with needles every day now.

This is simply not true for a diabetic.  Some are laden with sugar, oranges come to mind immediately.  You need to choose carefully and set small goals, that way you won't be overwhelmed.

true. my sugars did a "10" in the dive section of the blood olympics - made me sick - had to suck an orange juice popper (cardboard thingy) to get it back up so i felt like a reasonable human again.

oranges/orange juice always good for that!

Yes. Glycemic level is very high. Tropical fruits too like mangos and pineapple. But still better than cake...

i'm not dealing with diabetes but i am working on losing weight.  One rule of thumb i have is i only eat one serving of each of 3 fruits a day and never the same fruit more than once a day.  i try to get at least one citrus a day.  For veggies i have a similar rule...only one serving of each vegetable per day, but as many different veggies as i want.  By not eating the same fruit or veggie more than once a day i get a good variety without overdoing it.

Hate to disagree Lushy..but every time I put a piece of fruit in my mouth and swallow my stupid blood sugars sky rocket. 4 oz of orange juice is a spike to 289, an apple...200. . The best I can do is have a slice or two of an apple and cover with insulin. Anyone who has watched me eat quickly realizes that at max I eat 1200 calories a day over a period of 12 hours in very small amounts. The average small apple is 110 calories, and 17 g of carbohydrates, 13 of which are from sugar with only 3g of fiber. Forget about grapes, bananas, strawberries, figs, dates, blackberries, raspberries and other yummies. I actually get less calories and sugar from a teaspoon of apple jelly..10 g of carbohydrate and with the natural fruit by polaner and others a better deal.

YHMA..plain yogurt has 18 g of carbohydrates, 17 from sugar per serving. A sqaure of Gheridelli creamy milk chocolate or dark chocolate bar is 6 grams, a full serving of 4 pieces is 26 with 2 g of fiber. Take the carbohydrate total and subtract the fiber to know what you are really getting. The ADA has revised their reccomendations for the diabetic diet. You can find information about carbohydrates and diabetes here : http://www.diabetes.org/food-nutrition-lifestyle/nutrition/meal-planning/carbs-and-diabetes.jsp and a food advisor here: http://www.diabetes.org/food-nutrition-lifestyle/nutrition/my-food-advisor.jsp . Exercise will help even if it is walking 30 minutes a day at a brisk pace.

The best advice I can give is..walk away from the junk food, up your proteins and lower your carbs and roughage (salads and greens). Check for Dreamfields Pasta at your local market ( low glycemic but YUMMIE) and eat SMALL meals several times a day. If you drop in at Mcdonalds often step away from the Big Mac meal and order the Kids meal with Chicken McNuggets..as an example, then ditch the sauce. Oh and something I have found important as a diabetic..read the serving size information. Things that look like they are a single serving, often are NOT.  Example..frozen lasagna individual serving size package, if you read the package often 1/2 of that package is a serving, so if you are going to eat the whole thing, double the carbs.

***disclaimer - i'm not the only one who shares this opinion ...so let the firing squad fire away...***

i hate it when the forum topics get over saturated with constant chit chat over the "event of the century".

it was nice that some of you were able to attend (despite being told it wasn't all smiles and giggles as you made out it to be) ...it  was even wonderful the happy couple found each other here yet there are other couples who can boast the same without ad nauseum.

please i'm not jealous of them  - i'm getting married myself next year however i'm merely exhausted of the talk of last week's event.

Clearly you have no idea how MUCH of the saturation was being absorbed through a separate website , e-mail addresses and in phone calls etc.

You accuse me of boasting ?

When you have recovered from your exhaustion let me know ,then maybe we can discuss ME in private , I'm intrigued to know exactly WHAT you allege I'm boasting about.(have your interpretation of ad nauseum handy)

Overall, it was an awesome time... nobody is denying there were hitches (um, HELLO, folks? The bride, the cake goddess and cakes needed TRANSPORT!!!).

I hope your wedding goes more smoothly, sambas.. seriously.  Although all things considered, we were quite blessed to have it go off as smoothly as it did.

Sorry to hear that the posts referring to the wedding are bugging you.  As Gwyn said.. if you stay away from the threads that are obviously about the wedding, you wont be so bugged.  We all have tried to keep the threads isolated.

And since you've brought it into this thread....... *shrug*

eta: I'd sure like to know who all the negative comments you're hearing coming from.....

At the risk of "nauseum" Asher , if you get stuck for reasons to wear your kilt , wear it anyway and pretend you were on your way to a wedding but suffer from amnesia and simply got the date wrong. Then have fun NOT discussing with ladies anything to do wiith male underwear
