ORIGINAL: Duskypearls I admit that today, after 7 weeks & 2 days, I got the hard cast off. I admit underneath it, the skin on my foot and ankle was shedding like I had leprosy. I admit I have the removable walking cast now. I admit that although Doc originally said 8 wks before putting weight on foot, he's added another four weeks, so I must continue to keep off it until the 12th week. I admit I've been incredibly careful not to put even an ounce of weight on that leg, as I can't afford to screw this one up! I admit it was GREAT, GREAT, GREAT, washing that leg/foot, scrubbing off the dead skin, and finally shaving that leg again. I admit it's wonderful to finally lay here in bed w/o a cast, with the air caressing that leg/foot. I admit I wonder what it's going to feel like when I finally can walk on it again, as now that the ankle's fused and will never flex again, what will it be like to ambulate?!!!! I admit nearly 1/2 of the leg's calf muscles have atrophied. YIKES! I admit that's because 35 yrs ago, I crushed the pelvis on that side, have had 2 medial menisectomies on that knee, 18 yrs ago fractured that ankle in 7 places and the foot got completely turned around in the opposite direction, necessitating an Open Reduction Internal Fixation (much hardware!), then required surgery to remove said hardware, and 4 yrs ago injured that ankle on the job (which completely ruined the entire ankle!) I admit that entire right side/leg has been through waaaaay too much for one lifetime! I admit it took me nearly 3 yrs to find a Ortho surgeon to pro bono this surgery (no insurance!!!) I admit it's FINALLY over and done with, and I pray it will be decently functional once healed. I admit I'm relieved and grateful. Heaven's, I admit that's a lot of admits! (I admit!) Oh my gosh!! I'm glad it's healing for you! Yikes!!
