We have nick jr for baby M to watch, Mom and I are teaching her the letters and she has her favorite books that she brings over when we get to watch her. The other day, baby M got into my loose change container and counted the dimes (14) in perfect order. The charter school where her brother and sister goes to is going to get a Pre-K class going next year and she will go to it.

When my mythology books come in, I will read them to her. I started reading mythology when I was 3 or 4 because of a set of books Mom and Dad brought.

I also print off coloring pages from a grandparents website for her artistic class.

Shahar, does she have a wooden alphabet puzzle? My girl had one and it really helped her learn the shapes, because she could manipulate the wooden letters before finding the right shape to match it with. You can also get numbers, and if you're lucky, you might be able to find a name puzzle.

Not that I am aware of. I know when I was in college and Lizard was in Headstart, I had books, blocks, letters and numbers for her. This was before I was DXed with bipolar (I was going through maniac moods by doing everything, even school volunteering, parent representative and maintaining a 3.2 GPA).

I think if we go to town on Saturday, I get her some of these items. I was planning to find her some more puzzles to work on anyway since she had the ones we have figured out.

Do you have ToysRUs down there? That is where we usually got stuff.

Oh, and there is a set of 12x12 foam squares, where the letter pops out, for matching, and the pieces fit together as a mat, a rectangle, a house, anything you want. Lots of fun.

Leapfrog also has some awesome stuff. This just goes on your fridge (magnets), incorporates tactile, hearing and visual learning, and its under $25.

No, this is a town of 13,000. A far cry from Austin where Lizard is at.

The kids do share a Leapfrog. I am the one who replaces the batteries (RS had us buy a lot of AAs for the weather radios).

The kids play on the computer as well. J goes for Lego or Cartoon Network while baby M plays with Paint. H goes to some online school.

Both J and H have to do speech therapy. I had to do it when I was in school, even when I was in high school. These days, I find myself slurring my words if I am not careful.

Reader Rabbit has a wide variety of games/programs, starting with baby, toddler, preschool, kindergarten, etc. If you google them, I am pretty sure that most of them can be purchased as online downloads.

I admit I need to get busy deciding on which non-profit I want to volunteer at. It's a class requirement.
I admit I don't mind doing volunteer work but I hate the idea of having to do it as a class requirement.
I admit it feel kinda skeezy to me.

I admit I don't think it's fair for the organizations when volunteering is demanded, because then once the reason for them being there is gone, most stop coming and places really need the help. A revolving door of people can be really hard to keep track of, specially if there's any specialty training going into the volunteer position. I saw that a lot at the SPCA where volunteering was a criteria to graduate, they only came because they had to and bailed once they were not being told you have to come.

It's a requirement class that every student in the college has to do. It's a class about how to communication and how to be social to communities all around you. Like I said..I don't mind if I was doing this to authentically help but hate the idea of doing it for a grade.

Yeah, I know it's a required class, I just wish that more people would stick around and do it after the requirements over.

I admit I doubt I will stick around unless it's something I really end up feeling something for it. Otherwise I just won't continue to help because I have my classes to keep up with and still trying to find a job and if I get one it's going to take up my time in replacement of volunteering.

I admit for me I have tons of time to volunteer, but a few places I was at, Well I didn't feel they showed very much appreciation for the volunteers who were there visting day in and visiting day out. One owner always kind of made me feel intimidated and nervouse like I had to walk on egg shells, she was pretty snappy, It's kind of hard to want to continue spending a lot of time going where you don't feel appreciated. Or where you feel intimidated.

Well for the times I was talking about it was highschool seniors being made to volunteer to graduate, you needed so many hours of volunteer hours or you didn't graduate.

My son is in grade nine recreation education, and one of the requirements is five hours of coaching or volunteer work. I just have to find out if the volunteer work has to be sports based. If not, he has it covered with all the volunteering he does with marching band.
