Yeah, I know, you asked before. We've had a politician killed a few years ago (but, hey, that happened to you too, right?) and a film producer a year or so later. And ever since, we're all talking war on terror and have introduced measures like having to carry ID at all times, that would have been unthinkable 10 years ago. But the bottom line is, I do think my country in general is a lot safer than the US.

Well, I'm not sure what ethnic makeup has got to do with it (I don't believe any race to be more criminal by nature than another), but you're probably right about the other things, that does save us from a lot of trouble. Yet I don't see many threads on CM asking for better social security or drug legalisation. Instead you seem prefer more guns to protect yourself...

Well you're almost right Michael.
America's problem with violence has little to do with guns and everything to do with drugs!
Ask any Cop, they'll tell you that drugs are the cause of 70% of all crimes they deal with.
There are people out there who will kill you for $10 to get a fix.
The politicians keep talking about the "War on Drugs", fine, when is it going to start?
If we nuked Mexico and Colombia there wouldn't be anymore drugs.

As long as there is demand there will be someone willing to supply the drugs. The best thing any government can do is legalize and control drugs.

If I'm right Afghanistan is the biggest producer of drugs because that is what earns poor farmers a little money to survive. It would be cheaper to pay farmers not to grow drugs or even better, get rid of tarrifs on agricultural products and let poor farmers in the developing world earn money honestly.
