  i did look to see if this thread has already been posted but could not find any. So my question is: i have heard that if you rely a lot on using a vibrator to orgasm and cum than eventually you can harm your clitoris and it will be difficult to orgasm/cum again. Is there any truth to this? And if so, what are the cons of relying a lot on vibrators?

Status: offline 		I don't think it's as much a physical reaction as a mental one.  One knows that the vibrator is predictable and  come to enjoy the certainty of a desired result.

The use of a vibrator is much more intense on the clitoris and some people who are very sensitive in their clitoral region can not enjoy it. Some people who have less sensitive bits need more than fingers alone. Is there a cause and effect debate here? Perhaps, though i think that people are born with a threshold of sensitivity. If you can bring yourself to orgasm with your fingers alone, then i think that you will be able to continue doing so. I have no research to back this up though.

Status: offline 		I don't think a vibe will harm your clit.  I own a Magic Wand (Hitachi) and I find when I use it often I orgasm more slowly than when I use it less frequently.  Of course when I don't have sex for any length of time I cum quicker too...

The bare bones of this question seems to me...will it harm me?  will I lose sensation? no and not long term.

Status: offline 		I know that my vibe does actually hurt my clit after a while, and that I loose sensitivity and it's numb or itchy, depending if I used the  most powerful vibe I have, which I only use on low.

Status: offline 		It won't harm your clit as far as I know, however, it can de sensitize over time.  I know I've had sessiosn with vibrators where eventually the vibrations numb me out- I NEED the friction and slowness of a hand or tongue to actually build up to orgasm then. 

The good news is, the desensitization is only temporary.  Give it a few hours and it should be back to normal.

I'm a dildo girl myself, but a good hitachi can be much fun on occasion.

Status: offline 		I either needed to buy stock in Duracell or buy the hitachi.....I am a very finicky cummer....and a wall plugged machine is much more effective than 2 C batteries that die mid orgasm....bah! 

yeah yeah...everyone is thinking it, I know...poor husband and now poor Robert. *S*

Status: offline 		Earthycouple, i can agree with you on your last statement about the battery issue. i like to have at least 3 of mine charged, and two that i'll keep close by in case the first runs out. And thank you to the rest for telling me this. Yes my Dom will use his hand to get me used to that feeling as well. i had to ask this question because another Dom has told me that it is not good to use the vibe for extended periods and to not use it on a regular basis.

Status: offline 		omg... I had it happen to me the other day.  I was about 10 seconds away from having an orgasm and the         batteries     just       died!
The worst part was that I had no time to change batteries and do it again.
Talk about a buzz kill!
As far as frequency of use; If I use a vibrator too often, then I become dependent on the speed and it takes a few days of non use to get used to manual stimulation again.

Status: offline 		A few years ago i developed a skin tag on the tip of my urethra.  My doc said it could have been from too much rubbing, which would of been with my vib for sure. That's the only negative effect i've had.

I had to wait for my partner to finish before getting roger out of the drawer to finish me off. When I got de-sensitized to him I went out and bought a super deluxe roger
Eventually my partner decided it was getting ridiculous and both rogers were promptly thrown in the trash can. It took me possibly 3 months to regain my sensitivity and have an orgasm without him

If it makes you feel any better (I doubt it), the same thing happens to men who masturbate too often with their hand.  They get used to the same sensation of using their hand which is quite different than the sensation of being inside a woman's vagina or the feel from receiving oral sex.  It can take them quite a while before they reach the point where they're able to ejaculate again via intercourse alone.
 
The positions and amount of effort required by different muscles are also quite different.  This can make the whole sex thing for both partners (women who use vibrators and men who use their hands) very different than what either is accustomed to.  There are a whole bunch of factors involved based on my experience, including the shared intimacy and dependency upon communication with another for your pleasure that is required for that orgasm to happen.  Hope this helps cast things in a different light and put some additional perspective on the issue from the other side of the coin.
