shrugs you may not want me, but some people will get me. They'll get the best treatment I can give because I always do my work to the best of my ability. It's a matter of both pride and honor to me. But for honesty's sake, I won't lie and say that some perfect strangers each mean something special to me. Everyone has something they want to do with their lives. Some people get to do it and some people do something else until they can. And if I'm capable of getting an 'other' job that will pay well, that's what I'm goign to do. I'm not going to settle for flipping burgers simply because I don't have deep moral reasons for wanting to go into nursing. And honestly, you've already made your point that the threat of MRSA is not great. And I confirmed it afterwards. So if you don't mind please stop making me out to be a paranoid idiot.

Krissi....you are such a sweetheart, and thank you for sharing. Many health care workers are positive too, as 25 percent have MRSA. You are taking great measures to care for yourself, continue to do so. There is no reason why you won't live a normal, happy healthy life. Just remember to take care and not do anything that can lower your immune system response. Avoid excessive drinking and smoking, and of course get plenty of rest. Continue with your course of treatment. On very stressful days, try to find ways to lower the stress. Your best defense is to not let it overtake you. I wish you the very best. Please, keep us posted, myself and Mistress are nurses and are always available to you for any kind of support. Drop a line anytime at all to me if you need. Mistress reads my mail...a letter to me is a letter to Her.

We have a MRSA-positive household, unfortunately. It started with my oldest UM when she was an only, spread to me, then my husband, and now my youngest UM. With all 4 of us positive it has been quite the fight to extinguish it in our family. I was told basically to expect to keep testing positive as long as they are this young. I don't know if this was said to make me feel better, but I do try my best to maintain proper hygeine when someone's having issues. We do the ointment in the nose, the weeks long stents of antibiotics, special soaps, etc. Ultimately toddler UMs will spread no matter what we do. It's been a fight, but the UMs have only had 1 outbreak of boils and I had a string of them in my lymph nodes. My Sir is positive but has had no ill effects.

You are misled....if you think money is great in nursing you better think again...very LONG HARD hours on your feet with tons of charting, bitching doctors, scared patients and family members who need a shoulder. We have to be everything we can to all of them. This isn't drop a pill in a mouth and move on to the next patient. It's about caring about them and their families, it's about making sure fears are managed. It's about cleaning them up when no one else is around. It's about assessing their conditions to determine if it's better or worse. It's about running from one end of a hall to another when someone yells "code" and forgetting that you are out of breath from running you have to do chest compressions...maybe on a little tiny 94 pound 70 year old woman or maybe a 450 pound 40 year old woman....(neither is easy I guarantee). oh and while you are doing compressions you are barking orders to the techs around you to do what needs to be done and trying to ensure the family members are not watching as you break ever bone in her ribcage (that cracking sound sucks, let me tell you). Can you multitask like that? Every damn one of those strangers better mean something to you or you will never do THAT job to the best of your ability.

I apologize to Krissi for my behavior. This thread wasn't meant to relate to nursing, but to MRSA. I'm sorry I allowed it to drift so far. If either of you still want to respond to my career choice you can send me a memo. Again, apologies. I've learned at least a bit about so-called 'superbugs'. And they do scare me. But it is a bit of a relief to know it can be lived with and isn't decidedly fatal.

You opened your mouth, you asked for it. And my Mistress DOES have a comprehension of your capabilities, as well as myself and sweetnurse. We know a garbage nurse when we see one, and you are the poster child for the landfill. You even denigrate your parents, by putting them down for the money they "didn't" make. So not only are you a filthy excuse for a nurse, you are an embarrassment to your family. I'd be ashamed to speak of my parents like you just spoke of yours. Good thing when you were 2 years old, bringing home that paycheck to make sure you got fed.
