Status: offline 		       I've had a strange thought this morning, reading the 'US troops are terrorists' thread.  It could be a result of neglecting to buy coffee when I went for the steaks and corn yesterday, but it's been percolating longer than that.

     Could it be that those who are perfectly willing to denigrate and attack this country and administration at every opportunity, to spout filth about our troops in the field, are in fact the most convinced of the automatic superiority of the American Way?  The most confident of our invincibility?  The most optimistic that freedom is inevitable?

       They must believe us to be so powerful as to go to war as a divided nation.  They must believe our triumph so inevitable that they can casually help the enemy propaganda campaign.  They must believe so deeply in the universal truth of our values that it doesn't matter that the enemy despises them.

     How unshakeable must their faith be to wail about the ones we catch needing lawyers, while refusing to acknowledge what the enemy does to captives?


      Or are they just completely fucking ignorant?

A lot of times, it's the "fucking ignorance", or willful blindness, Rich. There are exceptions, and there is good and bad, right and wrong, to be found on all sides. Now I have to go find this thread...... can't promise I'll read much of it lol.

...another possibility is that those voices feel that those honourable cultural values are being betrayed by a shameful war. That dosn't make them ignorant, just people in a free country with an opposing view to yours. Shouldn't you, as a real patriot, be treating these people as patriots also...albeit ones with a different interpretation of patriotism from yours? After all, by such condemnations, aren't you opposing their use of free speech?

I pointed out in another thread that those who wear our uniform and flag have the highest duty to avoid any dishonor of that flag, and this nation.

If a military has SGTs who do not immediately shoot dead a squad of men who he learns are planning a gang-rape/murder of a 14 year old girl, but instead JOINS THEM, is it worth of any respect?

If the Military does not try and execute these animals with the quickest dispatch, are they worthy of respect?

If you sentence the SGT to 100 years in prison, isn't all this just a joke?

Perhaps the issue of the lack of Honor of our Military, and it's effects on the support they can expect should be treated in an essay.

I've not got the time for it currently.

Well they swear to uphold and defend the constitution, so one would think that they should honor that oath, yes... and be held to a higher standard of behavior too. Most of the troops do in fact take that oath rather seriously by the time they are trained... a few bad apples reflect bad on the whole... that is why they need to police themselves.

It is like police officers that keep quiet and protect each other. It leads to mass corruption, even of the good ones unfortunately...

how do i summarize   the above?    these 2 peoples have fought for centuries.  bloodshed on either side is a sad thing.

having dealt with hard core factions of each side- IMO they both carry enuff blame.

the mideast conflict wont be solved in our lifetime.

dare i say, give peace a chance???   whoopzy- i guess not.

Status: offline 		A clip of Rosie saying the troops are terrorists?  i don't think she ever actually said as much.  She inferred it by indicating the number of dead Iraqi's and then saying something like "who are really the terrorists?"  It was all over the news stations when she was arguing with little Lizzie about it.  i'm sure there are clips somewhere........luci

President Bush, without so much as issuing a press statement, on May 9 signed a directive that granted near dictatorial powers to the office of the president in the event of a national emergency declared by the president.

The "National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive," with the dual designation of NSPD-51, as a National Security Presidential Directive, and HSPD-20, as a Homeland Security Presidential Directive, establishes under the office of president a new National Continuity Coordinator.

That job, as the document describes, is to make plans for "National Essential Functions" of all federal, state, local, territorial, and tribal governments, as well as private sector organizations to continue functioning under the president's directives in the event of a national emergency.

The directive loosely defines "catastrophic emergency" as "any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions."

When the president determines a catastrophic emergency has occurred, the president can take over all government functions and direct all private sector activities to ensure we will emerge from the emergency with an "enduring constitutional government."
Translated into layman's terms, when the president determines a national emergency has occurred, the president can declare to the office of the presidency powers usually assumed by dictators to direct any and all government and business activities until the emergency is declared over.

Rosie is all over the news and they quietly pilfer this through!  NOT a word from the press!

We now have all the frame work for a dictatorship slipped into place and ready to go on the next little problem that they wish to label a "disaster"...   What happened to that oath of office?   You know the one that is supposed to PROTECT the constitution not rip it down?

Why dont we compare patriotism to NSPD-51 and HSPD-20? 

i think Rosie has misplaced anger, its not those who have no power but those giving the orders.

Why even bother with the legislative or judicial branches any moe?  Just let ole gw make ALL the decisions!!!
