This is so sad, but the overt sensuality and sexual innuendo on the Food Network is done on purpose.  They hire people (talent) with sensual faces, mouths, and lips to lick and suck and twirl food around their tongues to emphasize the sensual nature of what is going on.  It's not called "food porn" for nothing.

That was my thought exactly.  Why is that sad?  It's advertising.  Sex sells.  What else is new?

What's fake?  The people aren't really sexy?  The food doesn't taste good?  I don't see what's fake about having a sexy man or woman eat.  If the person was ugly would it be fake?

When Emeril has people from the audience taste his food, is that fake?  Those people aren't talent, they're just people from the audience.  I don't understand your point.

Oh I agree it's fake, but so is CSI, and many other shows we watch.   And there is something so primitive in watching a person eat something.   They've combined everyone's favorite two things in life....food and sex.  A win/win combination.

You mean the peoples' reactions are fake?  This isn't making sense to me.  Unless you're right there, how do you know it's fake.  I know some "real" people who act like that when they eat.  I think they are trying to impress upon the cook how good the food tastes.  I wouldn't call that fake.

ygraine,
What a hot description! "Food Porn" what a cool phrase...i will think about that next time i am "assisting" in the kithchen
i personally love food and sex and when they are put together, i think it is a win/win situation

Bandit,

It's all scripted in advance, like any other entertaining tv show.  Thus, it's fake, not that the food is, or that it tastes good, but it is scripted.

Well, I don't consider that fake exactly.  Of course, it's scripted...it's a TV show.  I mean, Emeril IS  a good cook and so are the others.  If you want to consider it fake. I guess that's up to you.

I must agree with Ruhe and add my $0.02.  I've also been curious about why he has such a VARIETY of pizza boards.  I tend to think he's Dom, not just because I'd love to be flogged by the man, but also because a number of Doms I've met IRL haven't always been the stereotype "Dom" personality 24/7/365.

is it so wrong to want rachel ray ball gagged? I mean, she CAN cook well without her mouth flapping..

*in other words, yes..she and Emeril are taxing on the nerves*

Alton Brown, if anything..I would imagine him as a switch. Mostly because I keep thinking of him saying "Yes teacher.."

I had my theory that Alton was a closet balloon fetishist.  See how many times balloons and balloon references are mentioned in his show :-)
