For those of you who don't know, tonight is a blue moon.  I had an earlier post in the off-topic section about the lunar effect and how it influences peoples' moods, making tension of all kind more volatile.  It's not just that, though.  I've felt this one coming for days.  I've been snappy with people, and sexual matters have been... intense, to say the least.  But it's more than that.  For some reason, this blue moon is exciting.  I can feel the tension and anticipation in the air, and it's thick enough to cut.  A few friends and I are heading out for the evening to our favorite bar (with awesome indie music) to partake in their Thursday cheap wine specials.  We were all so hyped up with all this rampant energy that we need an outlet.  With all the craziness in the air, it should be a very interesting night.

So my question is, do any of you feel this, too?  I know I'm not completely crazy and some of you must feel it.  I've struggled with describing it, so how would you put this weird feeling into words?  Did any of you make plans tonight specifically to vent out some of this excess energy?

(Thanks to Echo and the Bunnymen and my husband's band, The Pink Slip, for loaning me the song lyrics to "The Killing Moon" as a subject line.)

But you're one in a million
You've got that shotgun shine.
Born under a bad sign,
With a blue moon in your eyes.

ignore my Chicago neighbor up there.  no you're not alone or crazy ..saw the blue moon last night before the clouds covered it. i have been snappy at my UMs sometimes for no reason ...snippy at times with Daddy which made things worse since i'm beginning my cycle ...and i can feel it among the people on the street. too.

A blue moon is when a full moon occurs for the second time within the same month. The calendar, with the division of days into months, etc, is a strictly human invention. In times past, when there were only 10 months in the calendar, before it was revamped hundreds of years ago, blue moons would have been much more common, since the same 365 1/4 days in the year were divided into 10 months instead of 12, making the months longer and allowing more opportunity for the moon to go through its full phase twice in the same month.

While almost all creatures of the world seem affected by the moon's phases to some extent, they don't check the calendar and have no way of knowing that it happened twice on this page as opposed to just once on all the other pages for the year, so it makes no difference to them.

I found this info to be interesting:
quote:

Note that the May 31 date applies to most of the Western Hemisphere, including the United States. In the Eastern Hemisphere, the full moon in question will occur on June 1. For that half of the world, the blue moon will be on June 30, 2007.

So I would have to guess that it is merely the excitement of the novelty that causes people to be more aware of their moods, etc, during these events.

Thanks for the reply.  I suppose I wasn't clear in my original post.  It's not the actual blue moon making me and others crazy and energetic.  (I've been up since six this morning for no reason and been working around the house like a mad woman.)  I just meant the full moon in general was having this effect.  You're right in that the blue moon is simply a human novelty.

Edited to add:  Lonlyross, a blue moon is when two full moons occur in the same month.  The cycle of months is not directly coordinated to the lunar cycle, so occasionally you will have a full moon at the beginning and end of a month.

Ah, okay, now I get what you are saying. *smiles* The moon does not have much effect on me, other than lifting my spirits to see it full, because it is such an awesome sight.

Season change does have an effect on me, though. I get "fall fever"; during October, especially, I am excited and hyper and generally in a happy mood. Maybe because that is my birth month, or because of the fall festivals, or maybe because the weather just feels so danged good at that season, but for whatever reason, that is when I am at my most energetic and daring.

For the sake of information, though, the moon isn't literally blue.  It's just a normal full moon.

LOL  so that explaions why I've been quite cranky in the past couple days, though on the night of the full moon I settle down and get a complete sense of peace. Probably as during the full moon, I'll meditate and reaffirm my "oneness" with the Goddess and helps me stay connected with my sprituality

It was a wonderful sight here on the West Coast.
Took the granddaughter out last night so she could talk to Mother Moon.

She did not like coming back in at all.

I sigh with nostalgia, because 'The Killing Moon' was one of my favourite songs, all those years ago. Ian McCulloch had a gorgeous voice, and he was very beautiful too.

Thank you for reminding me of it
