I started into peri-menopause when I was around 37, and suffered for a few years until I found an holistic physician. She has helped me tremendously. The biggest thing that I think helped was being put on Prometrium, a more natural form of progesterone. The hot flashes, night sweats, irritablity, etc all subsided considerably, and rarely come back. Also, reducing/eliminating all caffeine, sugar, salt, and white flour products help alot too. The sugar and white flour products seem to fuel the hot flashes. Recently, my doctor gave me reading material on estogen dominance, which also factors into diabetes. Im not sure what I believe about that, as Im still learning about it. I tried helping my body by eating more soy protein, but that really backfired on me. For women with poly cycstic ovary syndrome, the body doesnt identify plant estrogen proteins as being proteins. I dont quite understand it, but the soy products made the peri-menopause symptoms much worse, they shot my sugar levels through the roof, they raised my cholesterol level, etc. NOT my best decision LOL Good luck with your symptoms. As others have suggested, I also think a visit to a gyn would help. Also, depending on your beliefs about health and wellness, try a holistic physician. They often have more options that dont cause side effects or more problems down the road.
