Can anyone die from these....LOL?.....I noticed in my early thirties my periods getting bad on me...they never bothered me before...then i started getting a little achy and such ....now at age 43 they are to the point that they are almost unbearable. My breasts are so sore sometimes i cry if they are touched...and i HAVE to wear a bra or its sheer agony (LOL and i'm a masochist LOL) my lower back is terrible the cramps are horrendous, and the mood swings are off the hook!... its REALLY bad...i'm crabby, i cry....its awful....                                                                                                       do you suppose a trip to the Gyn is in order?....BTW...pertaining to the previous statements...perhaps i shouldn't post or have human contact for the next week... just to keep Y'all safe.....LOL

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Mood swings & night sweats (6/9/2007 10:21:23 PM)

Could be peri menopause?  Definitely go get your levels checked.  Sleep, exercise, stress, hormones and all sorts of things could be a source here.

michaelOfGeorgia -> RE: Mood swings & night sweats (6/9/2007 10:22:39 PM)

then again, it could be FTS (fixin' to start)

imthatacheyouhav -> RE: Mood swings & night sweats (6/9/2007 10:26:54 PM)

perhaps...my Mother and Grandmother both were in menopause in there mid-forties (sigh)...so i guess that may be a possibility.  GOD!!! it blows getting old...!!!.... ya know, my ma coulda warned me!......LOL

HutchGarahl -> RE: Mood swings & night sweats (6/10/2007 12:16:42 AM)

Been having those symptoms for almost 5 years now. Doc says it's menopause. Welcome to the final stage of adulthood. :P

That was an interesting read. Thanks Katy. As one of my docs claim menopause, the other says no. Reason being, i've had mood swings my whole life as well as the complications listed. Extreme bleeding lasting for 3 weeks every 2 weeks. It's been like that ever since I started my monthly. Which is why I got put in the hospital in February, so they could try to find a way to control it. They think they finally got it right. :P

Perimenopause can last up to 10 years... and your female relatives are a good indicator of when to expect menopause. Unfortunately for me my mother had a hysterectomy when she was 40 so I do not know entire chapters of my female history... I have significant mood swings, cramping, and breast soreness.

kyraofMists -> RE: Mood swings & night sweats (6/10/2007 7:04:56 AM)

The breast soreness may also be due to too much caffeine.  My breasts used to get extremely sore, my doctor told me to cut out caffeine for 3 months and it should go away.  It did and now the only time they get sore is when I have had too much caffeine during the month or because of play.

You are correct, women with cystic breasts are affected by caffeine.  My doctor also suggested it to me, she told me reduction was not enough, that I would have to completely give up caffeine, I won't do that.

What I've noticed in perimenopause is that not all pms is created equally.  I can have an easy month, and then the next month it's awful with the breast tenderness, moodiness, cramping, where I actually want to sleep to escape it.  Hormones must fluctuate wildly.

I am not looking forward to that.  In his words, I am already a "moody little bitch" just before my period.  I will make a mountain out of a mole hill the week before my period starts and then just want to sleep the first couple of days.  That is where I am at today....  laundry and in bed resting is what is on the agenda for today.

I am not a weepy person and (bad) pms can bring it out in me.  I hate that crap!

Definitely head to the gyn, and ask to have a blood test to check the levels of your hormones. This will tell you if you are entering menopause. Make a list of all the symptoms, and the questions you have, and talk with the doc about the best way to manage them.

I have been taking hormone replacement therapy for years, but noticed that the hot flashes were coming back, and my sex drive was down. I checked with my gyn, and was prescribed some testosterone cream in addition to the female hormones. Rub a tiny portion of cream onto my "happy button", no more hot flashes, mood is better, getting interested in sex again, and........it sure does tingle nicely when the cream is rubbed in. *L*

SeeksOnlyOne -> RE: Mood swings & night sweats (6/10/2007 11:26:27 AM)

i had horrible breast tenderness a few years ago and the thing that cured it for me was taking extra vitamin e every day-my dr suggested trying it-it took a month or so to work, but it is still working to this day....you may want to ask your dr if this is something you could try....as for giving up caffeine.....ill just live with lumpy bewbs and continue to have my morning pot of coffee

-laughs- Not that this will make you feel any better, but I'm 35 and was diagnosed with perimenopause last week..same types of things, night sweats, moodiness..what finally sent me to the Dr was 2 cycles in one month when I've always been like clockwork, sounds like you may be going through the same thing..definitely worth it to know for sure though....

Lashra -> RE: Mood swings & night sweats (6/10/2007 8:29:14 PM)

I've never had regular periods, if I had 1 a year I was lucky. That is up until 3 years ago, now I am like clockwork and I no longer have bad cramps, blood clots or PMS. My Mom had a hysterectomy in her early 40's so I have no idea how to gage when I may start it. Could I be starting it now, since my cycle has changed? My doctor said it didn't sound like it.

LadyHeart -> RE: Mood swings & night sweats (6/10/2007 9:18:28 PM)

I've been having those symptoms for more than 10 years. They started with the perimenopause, and have continued now I am menopausal (ie my periods stopped several years ago). They ebb and flow in severity, so I am always experimenting with what works and what doesn't, keeping my system in balance. I found the Family Planning Organisation very helpful. We always think of them for birth control, but they deal in all aspects of the female reproductive system. I went to some of their seminars on menopause issues, and they were just great. Might be worth checking out as a good place to start.
