The islands of Bahrain, where Dilmun was supposed to be, would be interesting too, given the idea that Dilmun has been forwarded as a possible original site of Eden, as well as being the site of the Sumerian creation mythos where Marduk splits the primordial chaos of Tiamat into Heaven and Earth.

If anyone figures out where Yamataikoku was, it might be an interesting site as well, given the history with regard to Himiko and also Amaterasu (天照).

Interesting sites if going by history and mythology, at least.

Sticking to history, Iraq would be the place.

Germany...tour the real big three (BMW, Mercedes Benz, and Porsche) factories, and then take a ride in the BMW Ring Taxi around the Nürburgring Nordschleife; it's a ride around the world's longest (at 20.8km per lap), most dangerous (several fatalities every year), most difficult (over 100 corners, with no two alike) racetrack, appropriately named das 'grun holle' or 'green hell'; it's also the most beautiful, in my opinion; there's such an amazing view of the German countryside the entire way around the track, including Nürburg castle.  The ride takes place in an E60 generation BMW M5, which is essentially a 500hp, 7-speed, 203mph sedan with handling and braking capabilities to match...and they spend as much time sideways as physically possible.  Imagine sitting in the back (or front, but the back is more thrilling) seat of a car, going sideways at around 140kph through a series of corners, nothing but the scream of the tires, engine, and differential in your ears and the stink of burning rubber filling your nostrils...but I digress.  I'll just say it's fun and it lasts about 10 minues straight...and I guarantee you it'll be either the longest or shortest 10 minutes of your life, depending on how much you trust the driver.

Then, if you're game, you can even rent a car, buy a lap ticket, and see what the green hell is like from the driver's seat...white knuckles free of charge.

Of course, I may be a little biased...*grins*

In Central Europe I most strongly recommend Gdańsk in Poland.

St. Petersburg is somewhere I would like to return to.

However my favourite place in Europe has to be Ireland, particularly the Aran Islands on the west coast.

I'm planning to come to the States shortly and am coming with an open mind. Alaska springs to mind, but so too do many places in North America.

Elsewhere I would really like to visit Ghana, Peru, and Mongolia.

I traveled extensively through Europe when I was younger. Every summer there was a 6week trip back to Germany and from there my cousins and I would set out on a 2 to 3 week trip backpacking together wherever we felt like going. They were wonderful adventures that I cherish to this day.

There are great river cruises with stops at castles or different cities along the way that can take one day or several as well. I'm planning a trip to England next year since I just found out my UM is being stationed back there again for a 2 year stint and we're going to do a ramble through Europe while he's there. There are adult hostels, as well as youth hostels, for the adventurous and budget conscious. I 'm still in contact with friends I made along my trips when I was younger that I met at various hostels.

There's nothing like a cross country road trip or a drive in a convertible up along the West coast.  

You might even consider a house exchange since you live in such a popular tourist destination spot. You would have free accommodations wherever you would like to travel to and you would only have to budget for travel, groceries and sightseeing. My mother used to do this all the time with our vacation homes in the Keys and in The Dells. She's traveled all over the world and stayed in other people's homes in exchange for someone staying in ours. She has never had a negative experience with it. I think there was a slight fee for the listings and networking but it was a very low amount when compared to the price of a hotel for the length of stay.

Einzelganger..I think I just found an absolute must do for my trip to Germany next year! Sounds fantastic! 

I found out I'm going to be allowed to go up in an F-15 when I'm in Lakenheath. Whoot!

I want to go to New Zealand with the idea of looking for a place to eventually retire.  4x my pension.

While I am there, I want to take a cruise to Antarctica.  I have been told that Antarctica is almost soul-numbingly beautiful.  Ice is not white, it is every color imaginable.

Wear a tux, hang with penguins.

That sort of thing.
