If it's from your ass to your mouth, then it is your stuff you're ingesting, right? How can you give yourself hepatitis? If the guy has hepatitis, then kissing him would probably bear a greater risk than performing fellatio. I don't remember the source, but research has shown that if you eat peanuts in a bar, chances are you're ingesting fecal matter from several people, as many do not wash their hands properly after a visit to the bathroom and have a grab from the same bowl. People are so afraid of anything coming from the body, where in reality we have been inoculated against virtually all the common nasties that could be contained in it, by repeated daily life exposure. If this worries you, you'd better sterilize the change you receive and keep from touching any surface in a public place. Rimming would be more risky, if it would be with a person who has an intestinal health problem. It's his intestinal flora this time, not your own. There are plenty of illnesses that are spread by fecal matter, so I would advise against rimming a person whose health condition or health-risk related habits you don't know. When it comes to a person that you know more or less intimately, you probably share most strains of micro-organisms already. Although I don't want to deny the possibility of a throat infection, I think the story LadyHeart related to us seems quite exceptional. The chances of such a thing happening again seem very thin to me. As I am involved in gastro-intestinal immunology professionally, I know my way around most intestinal organisms, good and bad, and it sounds like a highly unusual story indeed. This could have been a case of an exceptional virulent organism, a very low immune function or a postponed visit to the family doctor. I'm not implying that one should never worry, but there's no cause for panic either. Generally speaking there's more risk of contracting a vaginal infection from cunnilingus, than a throat infection from rimming, as there is a greater variety of harmful organisms in saliva than in fecal matter. So, talking relative risk here, I would say ATM is relatively safe compared to other ways of contact with the same person. Regards, Ron
