I have started a thread in honor of Fluffy!

Thanks, Aylee.
i'm seeing lots of ideas for snacks and food for a Sunday afternoon....added some of my own, too.

You are welcome!

And thanks for adding some of your own.  We would not want me to get thread-envy.

In the workforce for me.  I love kids, but it would be too hard for me.  I'm very much an extravert and my soul would just wither up if I were at home a lot.

HOWEVER, if it were a communal living situation where I woul have lots of interaction with adults and we would help each other with the kiddies, probalby stay at home.

Interesting question.  How's the poll?

ITS RUNNING ABOUT EVEN SUNSHINE,ITS HARD ON THE TWO INCOME FAMILYS TRYING TO MAKE IT AND MANTAIN THE LIFESTYLE..

This is one of the reasons that it is SO important to look at a household budget.  There have been more than one family that has found that if one parent stays home with the kiddos instead of working, using daycare, needing the extra fuel and maintance on the car, et cetera, that they actually have MORE disposable income.  It is really something that needs to be looked at and budgeted out!  (Aylee ~ the budget queen!)

fluffypet61 -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (1/28/2009 5:03:04 PM)

H- i thought you would be more than glad to be out of the house for the day - away from you mother.

Cold food and a warm school isn't that bad.  You could even read ahead on you studies or review what has already been covered.  Do they have a library?  Do they have computers?  You might try carrying a book with you to read while you are waiting.  Or maybe a portable hobby like needlepoint on plastic canvas (i make tissue box covers).  You might even find some new friends to talk to about the bad weather!

As a grownup and parent i found that it is a good idea to always have something to do in case i have to wait.  i had 4 children and 4 foster children and i spent a lot of time waiting for them to be done with sports, music lessons, ballet classes,  etc.  i even find it useful when i'm stuck in traffic waiting for a train at a crossing, an open bridge or an accident that closes the road.

i really believe that if class is in session and you can get a ride - that's where you should be.  If it were a job you would have to be there.  In some ways school is YOUR job.

Now, here's some hot chocolate.  i have cleaning to do.

Aylee -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (1/28/2009 5:14:29 PM)

YAY Fluffy!

You are so right!  Speaking as someone that had to re-do a semester long ago because I decided that I did not feel like going.

fluffypet61 -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (1/28/2009 6:34:05 PM)

yanno, in third world countries or war torn places the people - children and adults - want to go to school.  It is tops on recovery lists.  Rebuild the schools.  Women and girls in Afghanistan were desperate to go to school.

Back to cleaning...let's see besides the usual sweeping, mopping and washing dishes what else needs doing?
Hey!Boss, what do i do next?...(no disrespect intended)

Dang, don't mess with fluffy!

I will admit that I tried to get to a volunteer appt today but turned back cause the roads were so icy and I kept sliding around.  If I put on the brakes and slide around, I'm going home!

Anyway... hot chocolate - thanks darling... I hope you don't mind if I add a little spice to make it Mexican.

hugs

Something I have noticed with certain segments of our society is the "pride in ignorance."  I do not understand it.  How can you be proud of yourself for being a drop-out?  How can you boast that "I have not read a book since high-school."  The same people that see a college degree as "nothing more than a piece of paper."

As Polly says in, Monstrous Regiment,  "If you are not trying to be smart, mister, you're happy to be stupid!  And I'm up to here with stupid, understand?"

We have a good many people in our country happy and proud of being fuctionally illiterate.  We have females giggle about not being able to make change.  People who feel talked down to because they do not understand or grasp historical references.  And so on and so forth.

I think that it is a shame.

VirginPotty -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (1/29/2009 8:25:21 AM)

No problem at all, Sunshine! I do know how you love your spicy hot chocolate!!!!
Let's see, Mr. B's has an old fashioned fireplace so let's make some S'mores.
Here's some Hershey chocolate, graham crackers & marshmellows.
Let's use this stick Mr. B has in the corner for the "bad girls" to spear the marshmellows with & clean it off so he won't know!

What type of volunteer work are you interested in doing, Sunshine?

Fluffy, you are my hero! I love this post & wish I could put it all in my signature line! Hannable, you might want to reconsider your thoughts on school. Your spelling & grammar are ATROCIOUS & it gives me a headache reading your posts. Remember, punctuation is a GOOD THING!

fluffypet61 -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (1/29/2009 10:27:54 AM)

Aylee, when you mentioned Monstrous Regiment, it reminded me of one of the authors i enjoy who wrote a book called A Monstrous Regiment of Women - Laurie R. King who also wrote The Bee Keepers Apprentice.

Do we need a book club thread or is there already one?

Back to cleaning...vacuuming the entry and lounge rugs.

shrug* its not that i dont wanna get out of here fluffy... its that i dont wanna go to school with my stupid foot. and that stupid splint im saposed to wear. im in a computer class.. so its not like i can read ahead really. they have a libarary but its inthe wrong building.. and they have computers.. but idk what class rooms r empty durring my free period. i do carry a book with me but.. i can only read so much before it gets boring u know... u do needle point... ok then.. havent heard of any one doing that recently... ill look into it.. maybe. not many ppl stay at the school for lunch... they either go back to there dorm rooms or go eat. so.. yeah.. not a lot of people to talk to.

plzz dont start that "schools ur job" thing.. plzz... ive listened to it for so many years it like.. hearing i love u from someone whos not even paying attention u know? if the roads were clearer id have dad take me but hell.. 33 is still covered in slush and ick so.. yeha im not gonna drag my ass threw that just to get to school where ill sit at a computer and play games till class change u know?

*sips my hot chocolate* thnx thou.

[8|] There you go.

sunshinemiss -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (1/29/2009 11:21:52 AM)

Red Cross Potty.  When the planes hit the twin towers, I was in Philly, in the center of the triangle.  I went to Red Cross and volunteered on the hotline.  Lots of therapists did that.  I did trainings on how to talk to your children about it.

And I agree with you about fluffy.  She is an absolute hero!

Now I'm off to try again on the roads... at 20 miles an hour, but I'm gonna get to a place to sign up for a program to get licensed to be a nurses' aide since my Master's degree won't get me a job here in rural Ohio.  You know, it's just the first step on a new direction in my life.

hugs all around,
*tgfka sunshine

Hanable -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (1/29/2009 11:25:18 AM)

ok.. but whats wrong with the red stuff.. besides the one spelling thingy.. which is a lot more common then u would care to know about.
