Okay. . . what is with all the protien shakes?  Is this some new health-kick that we are all supposed to be on?

MRE dinners are popular in my house tonight

fluffypet61 -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (2/19/2009 7:05:45 PM)

i personally don't bother with protein shakes.  i am neither an athelete nor do i workout at a level that would require extra protein.  i really enjoy regular foods that i can chew to get my nutrition.

From WebMD:

"protein shakes are used mainly by athletes who need nourishment right after their workouts."

"Almost all people can get the protein they need from whole foods and beverages in their diet. The recommended daily allowance for healthy men and women ages 19 and older is 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight, or about 46 to 56 grams of protein a day.  Because most Americans consume closer to 1.5 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight daily, they don't need protein shakes or supplements for extra protein."

ah nice thanks for the info fluffy that may be why my family had issues with protien shakes

FelineFae -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (2/19/2009 8:25:17 PM)

that powder stuff that comes in drums at the vitamin stores?

PommeDeMonSang -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (2/19/2009 8:28:45 PM)

yea the whey protien shakes

i use to drink them in place of a meal but i would gain abit or lose a bit they never really helped

FelineFae -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (2/19/2009 8:34:29 PM)

i thought those were for weight gain. to give mass for body builders to turn into muscle. or for people very underweight.

PommeDeMonSang -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (2/19/2009 8:35:38 PM)

well the ones ive drank were for helping lose weight or so i thought lol

Aylee -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (2/19/2009 8:37:04 PM)

FLUFFY!  YOU HAVE MAIL!

It was bad enough drinking that "Boost" stuff when I was preggers.  Now I KNOW I do not want to work out iffn I might have to drink that stuff!

fluffypet61 -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (2/19/2009 8:38:47 PM)

You have to read the labels.  Many are high in carbs and fats.  Like i said earlier i'd rather eat food i can chew to feel as if i'd had a meal.

PommeDeMonSang -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (2/19/2009 8:46:16 PM)

Seriously. . .if you are trying to loose weight, do NOT eat MREs.  Really and for true!

What is an MRE? thank you.

And I Love Love Love Protein Shakes.

When I was working out all the time, I had them every morning for breakfast.  Chocolate malted - all low sugar.
I put it in through the weight watchers plan and the way I made them, they were only 5 points each (on a 25 point diet).

And it was great to have something so yummy as a "treat"... Every day I started my day with a happy treat.

Hugs to potty and her shakes (although I don't like the apple ones.)

Speaking of...
here are some baked apples with cinnamon and nuts and raisins with a bit of rice and honey.  Complete nutrition n a bowl.
One of my friends from England used to make this.  It is good on a cold morning.

It'll tide you over till the Potted Plant gets here.

Banzai550 -> RE: BOUNTY'S coffee shop (2/20/2009 5:47:15 AM)

MRE = Meal Ready to Eat  essentially a boil in the foil meal with extras such as drink crystals, crackers, condiments and a desert of some sort.  mainly used in the military to provide a HUGE coloric intake for the soldier in the field that is burning thousands of calories a day working.
