Master and i saw one (big black panther) on Christmas eve night, in the light of a full moon. She was stalking a little dog that was setting a speed record to get under his house.
No one believed us the next morning. But then a week later when the game warden had several reported sightings from local farmers...

this girl has been learning about some of the local food items in West Virginia.  It seems that something called "ramps" is in season.  They grow wild and people have "ramp dinners" to raise money at this time of year.

There are some suggestions about cooking and serving ramps...
*They are best cooked outdoors and not brought into the house.
*Do not eat them when you will be in an important business meeting or have a hot date during the week after eating.

Does anybody know of a good recipe that includes ramps?  So far i have ...
1) Over a camp fire - fry ramps with sliced potatoes in bacon fat - serve with bacon and eggs.
2) Outdoors - stuff a fresh caught trout with ramps, wrap in foil and throw on hot coals.

this girl is scrubbing all the cast iron pots and pans...must be done by hand.  Then dry well and apply a light coat of olive oil to keep them from rusting.

Ok, Molly Moochers are wild mushrooms that look like morels.

Since SHH left us cornmeal and bacon, i guess we will slice the Molly Moochers in half the long way and soak in a salt water bath overnight.  Tomorrow we'll rinse them and drain them and dip in milk and egg, put them in a bag of cornmeal and pepper, shake them up, and fry in rendered bacon fat.  After draining on paper towel they will be served with bacon on the side.

Did anybody try the Wild and Wonderful West Virginia foods?

Is there an unusual ingredient where you live?

One should always look forward to school.  There is a wealth of information there and people to share it.
