(with advance apology to LA for my poor and misleading title...)

Why do people have to proclaim - 'I have been in the 'lifestyle' more years than you' shit that seems prevalent?
Why do people believe that more years = more knowledge?
Why do the white knights out there think we poor s-types need saving?
Why do some people think that new people need hand holding and cannot ask their own damn questions?
Why do things always happen in threes?
Why do I think this might end up in P&Rs?

This is a bdsm site that is based on individual beliefs/fetishes blah - no?  So why do people still have a sheep mentality?

Peace

I gave up on you and titles awhile ago after ranting to my partner about your ".title." formatting.  :)

To answer all your questions in one fail swoop, people are idiots.

I will fall into that from time to time myself. I will be the first to admit it. Though I dont think I have guilty of questions you asked. I have probably done far worse.

Coz it's the bestest 'silly' question to ask... and I am hoping Aqua will pop by and lend her bosom for a pillow with V's blessing... coz I wanna hug...

eeeee... we don't half scrub up half bad in colour I guess... the reds kinda new and a bit different from the black - but Darcy likes me fiery!

It really is about life experince. it is why you do not see a lot of ceos at 20 years old.. there is a set order to everything. a natural guide line so to speak.  or for that matter 20 a year old president lol

No question is inherently silly, stupid or idiotic.  But I guess it's the way it's put across that makes it the way it is.
But Phin, I haven't seen you post anything 'worse' - (plus you are decidedly yummy in all your posts sofar)

You don't see a 20 year old president because it is constitutionally impossible. i am assuming of course that you were speaking about the President of the United States in your comment. But the general point of the OP is very valid, that we s-types aren't all looking to be "rescued". Are some, yes, and maybe that is part of why the stereotype exists. Do some people how have more years in the lifestyle, actually have more experience and more varied experiences? Yes that is possible. i don't have such a problem with someone who does have a lot of experience sharing his or her wisdom, as long as it doesn't come from a place of trying to either preach to me or "rescue" me from the big bad Doms out there.

I can think of many reasons why there isn't a 20 year old president and experience doesn't even enter the top 100.
Besides, a 20 year old could have far more experience of BDSM than a 50 year old.
Age does not facilitate experience.  And experience doesn't aid judgement.

Well said. I agree with you 100%

I am always willing to learn, later this month I will be attending a workshop held by EvilGeoff on fireplay. I am looking foward to it.

i disagree there is no way a 20 year old would have more experince then a 50 year... there are so many areas of ds that no way in the entire universe could that happen. one area is in the mental behavior area. this goes back to a debate i saw that could someone be a Dom at 20

Why do people have to proclaim - 'I have been in the 'lifestyle' more years than you' shit that seems prevalent?

Ego

Why do people believe that more years = more knowledge?

It generally does.

Why do the white knights out there think we poor s-types need saving?

People like to feel like they are doing something worthwhile. They can’t save all those dying of poverty around the world
so they start small.

Why do some people think that new people need hand holding and cannot ask their own damn questions?

Be careful holding peoples hands online because that might not me my hand you are holding.

Why do things always happen in threes?

It’s an odd number that ensures patterns are hard to spot thus maintaining the myth that the world around us doesn’t follow one big pattern.

Why do I think this might end up in P&Rs?

I don't know how you think so can't answer that.

This is a bdsm site that is based on individual beliefs/fetishes blah - no?  So why do people still have a sheep mentality?

The sheep that leads is still a sheep. (The less I say the wiser I sound)

In addition, i really think that the Doms who keep posting the serious of questions or post preaching to the newbies are really just trying to nab a newbie by proving how "caring" and "safe" he or she is.

dark,

Maybe if some of the D-types that are doing this behavior understood how a great many s-types view it, they wouldn't be so quick to do it. i personally find it extremely offputting and would view such an D-type as someone i would NOT want to get to know.

heartfelt

So apparently latex, a 20 something can be a submissive, but according to what you said, a 20 something can't be a Dominant. That kind of thinking is just so skewed, that some how the submissive needs to know less, be less mature or responsible than the Dominant. That is the very kind of thinking i think the OP was trying to address.

heartfelt
