Got into a bit of a discussion on this with someone on the other side, but I'm curious as to the opinions of others.

So a person with a rather excellent rep in the community as a ProDomme and author (censored per AUP) put forth the the idea that clothing fetishism fits into one of 2 categories: either it's the articles themselves or it's the associations you have with them. And on reflection, I find myself more and more in the "association" camp to explain why I like looking at the things I like.

So... is it the thing itself or the associations that do it for you?

Associations, 100 percent, with a healthy dose of symbolism added to it, and I rather suspect its going to be the same for most others who have a fetish for something that could even be remotely tied to being human.  I work best by analogy so....

Catholic schoolgirl anyone?  Yes, the skirt shows a lot of leg unless it an actual schoolgirl skirt, the blouse tend to be easy to take off, pull up etc. But the reality of it is the outfit is tied very strongly with youthfullness, and thus by extension everything that is stereotyped as the attribute of the girl child.   Playfullness, innocence, feminity, happiness; all words that easily come to mind when the idea  of "girl" crosses the brain.  For some, it evokes strong "parent protector" emotions and feelings; for others the whole "rape, pillage, and plunder" instinct is brought forth, and its sometimes a combination of both.

But what about something a little less stereotypical?  Tennis shoes, running shoes, cros-trainers etc.  The Nikes, the Adidas, The K-swiss etc.  Both men and women wear them, albeit with a bit of disticntive styling.  This is one of mine btw, but it did take me quite a while to figure out why I had this paticular attraction.  Then one day (ever notice that epiphanies always start with "then one day " ?) it dawned on me it wasn't the shoes I found attractive on of themselves, but the people who tend to wear them the most that I liked, namely women who tend to workout a lot or just have a lot of energy to burn, which is a quality I like quite a bit.

Had a friend dress me up for a fetish party according to the things that she found "interesting." So I showed up with a new flat top, an Aloha shirt, BDU trousers and highly polished combat boots... Not your conventional fetishwear. And I found myself finding her much more attractive in her Chanel suit and highly polished look - but with that single run in her pantyhose. Inordinately fond, as a matter of fact...

So that's where I see my pantyhose fetishism coming from... not the usual paraphernalia route.
