Bonsoir, dc.  I'm ok, a bit tired, but ok...  and you?

Can I just mention that a trip over the bridge to a certain fave Ethiopian restaurant in Adams-Morgan sounds lovely right about now?    yummy...

I am well, thanks. It helps that I only worked two days this week.

I haven't had Ethiopian for ages, and it does indeed sound good.

I can give you the address and we can meet.  (It'll just take me longer to get there, so you can order for me, if you like.)  Also, can you save me a parking spot out front?  The tibbs are good, the lentils are great, and the injira is nice and spongy.

(Sound good to you?)

Sounds great! I'm still mourning the closing of my favorite Ethiopian place.

I bet it was Daddy's fave one, too.  The kitchen caught fire about a year ago and they never got it back to 100% and then some of the others, well, the rents went through the roof and they couldn't stay in business.  Sigh...

Hiya, bear!  (scruffles yer whiskers)

I was particularly devoted to Red Sea, though I know other folks felt Meskerem was better.

I only went to one ethiopian restaurant in DC.  It was in Dupont Circle and I thought the stuff you use to pick up the food was a napkin!!
I also thought the phrase, "Ethiopian Restaurant" was an oxymoron..

edited to add:  I was only 19 years old at the time though...

I think I was at that place. In a townhouse, right?

Ethiopian does take some getting used to.

Of course.. It's like eating baby food!  It's pureed!!  LOL
Seriously, I don't usually rip on places like this.. (other so-called family members of mine do that enough to last a lifetime) but it was so odd!

I first tried Ethiopian back in the 80s, when the Ethiopian famine was much in the news, and being struck by the incongruity.

LOL...  at the napkin reference!  Daddy and I took one of my friends to Meskerem a year and a half ago.  When they brought the injira out, she opened it and put it in her lap.  I tried hard to stifle my giggles, but it was hard.

Daddy LOVED the Red Sea and the other one that had the kitchen fire and sits across from Meskerem.  I can't remember the name.   I like Meskerem, esp the seats/tables in the bay windows.  It's the best spot to people watch.

hehehe...  cute...

Actually, only certain types of the foods are made that way.  Those are usually the things that you use almost like a condiment.  The lentils (whether Sri Lankan, Indian, or Ethiopian) well they're all made pretty much the same way.

I think the one across from Meskerem was Fasikas.

The first time I went to Red Sea, the friend I was with warned me how filling the bread could be. "Imagine eating your fork with each bouthful," he said, and that image has always stuck with me.

Fasika's!!!  That's it!!!  Whew, I was burning up grey matter like kindling over here.

That's a pretty good description of the injira.  It's also like eating roti, etc. with Asian food.  Daddy and I always have to remind each other to eat slowly bc it tastes to good, and you just want to munch it down, but then you end up getting wheeled out on a dolly as they dump you in the street bc you can no longer move.  LOL...
