And don't you just love it when the waitresses, who are so beautiful and you know they have mastered portion control, come and ask you if you want any dessert when they can see that you have unbuttoned, unzipped, basically stripped nude from the waist down because you are ready to explode bc you are "way past full"...  I mean, WTH???

Too true! I don't think I've ever had dessert in an Ethiopian restaurant, come to think of it.

Hehehe...  I don't even know what is on the dessert menu!  Maybe you can meet Daddy and I at Meskerem one night - just for dessert.

LOL...  yeah right, dessert only.

We could finally find out what they serve for dessert! Maybe if we ate it first . . .

Depends on the restaraunt. Most Ethiopian places out here actually serve American desserts, if they serve dessert at all. If you like coffee, though, do try it Ethiopian style. There's a whole lovely ritual involved. Takes forever but it is heavenly. There's a dish called "Rum Balls" that I've seen offered that is basically ginger and coconut held together in sugar syrup then drenched in rum that is very tasty. They might have Mango Fool, or Crunchy Bannanas, or stuff that I've never heard of, but most likeley what they have is "normal" items lke ice cream or cake, because Americans typically want something sweet after dinner.

The rums balls sound quite tasty, and I'll have to try the coffee.

OK, I'll check out the dessert menu and let you know if it contains anything exotic, and we can have that first.  If not, I say we just dive straight into the entrees...   ahh.....

i..uh...was going to offer the dark chocolate (hangs head in shame) but i finished it off. i savoured it on my tongue. then i noticed some drips on my wrist, and i licked it slowly, feeling the dark velvet melt in my mouth.

then i was going to offer my pink lady apple. but the sheen on her skin was so lusterous in this heat. the coolness of her flesh was irresistible. i ate her.

then there was the lemonade icy pole earlier - it was so hot! i'm so sorry! it was soo cool and the temperature was soo hot that i had to frantically lick and tongue and swirl and.... and he just melted until i had to swallow.

i'm sorry.

somehow this seemed so appropriate considering the season and the comments about ethiopian restaurants. enjoy:

After Christmas

================

'Twas the week after Christmas, and all through the house
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste
At the holiday parties had gone to my waist.

When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber).

I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,

The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."

As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt

I said to myself, as I only can
"You can't spend a winter disguised as a man!"

So away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip

Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
"Till all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won't have a cookie - not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.

I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore
But isn't that what January is for?

Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!
