But he used a bug sprayer on Kevin Costner!  I loved that part!

Granted, I never understood the whole point of the movie: if you listen to the voices and build a baseball diamond in your cornfield, you will gain a haunted cornfield and then people will be driving to see it and treat you and your family like circus freaks.

Maybe I need to watch the directors commentary or something in order to understand it.

I must have missed the bug spray. Maybe I'd fallen asleep by then.

To be fair to the movie, it was way late, and I was tired. I should probably give it another try at some point.

It is when he shows up at Jones's apartment and Jones thinks that he is some sort of hippie follower.  I do not remember the details.

Like, I mentioned, I never really understood the "message" of the movie.

Over 40.  And there are also short stories.  And some non-fiction articles.  He was a bit prolific about his writing.

Well, it is the bookshelf that sits directly across from me while I am on the laptop, so his titles come easily to mind.  I never post any books that I have not read.

Good for you! I generally think of titles (some read, some not), then double-check them on Amazon to see if I'm remembering them rightly.

And if it's a book I'm particularly fond off, I add a smiley face.

I am a bibliophile, I would be always adding smiley faces.  Although I ususally just post fiction books as they have much shorter titles.  LOL

The basement here is pretty much storage for the books that don't fit in the library upstairs - the one with built-in floor-to-ceiling bookcases. Or the main hallway, with it's built-in floor-to-ceiling bookcases. Or the upstairs hall, with its ordinary bookcases and teetering toddler-high stacks of books. Or the various bookcases in people's private rooms. Or the attic, where a lot of the valuable or sentimental books are kept. There's a medium-sized storage locker of books down here. I spend a lot of time reading when I'm in this house. Usually, when I need a title, I scavenge around for something I've read in the last few years. A few I've thought of, and couldn't find hardcopy immediately. Then I had to turn to the internet.

Funny thing is, a lot of the non fiction is in the basement. Scifi/fantasy is in the library.

Our basement as well has many bookshelfs of books, as well as everyroom except the nursery.  Also the outside shed has boxes of books.  When we did a rough estimate it was something like 5000 with the same out in the shed.  It depends on which self you go to as for whether you will be looking at fiction or non-fiction titles.  A lot of sci-fi, history, gender studies, alternative history, politics, and religion.  As far as finding a title, just pick a shelf.

I grew up in houses like that. My mom and dad were both serious bibliophiles, when my dad remarried, he remarried a bibliophile. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I think a home isn't cosy unless it looks like a bookstore. When my dad remarried a fourth time, the woman he married wasn't as big areader. It was disorienting, coming to visit, and not having bookshelves in every room of the house. I mean, there were a few, but it just wasn't the same. I never did like that woman.

My other half had his first visit to my parents over the holidays and was a bit surprised that there were NO books to be seen.  I am the big reader of the family.  I think that my kid sister is still working on the novel that I gave her 15 years ago.  It is rather sad.
