GhitaAmati -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (9/12/2007 1:39:26 PM)

Why would you want to trash my shoes? And ona side note....I ruin shoes like nobuddys tomorrow...so I tend to not buy them unless I think they are pretty damn sturdy. If I dont think I could chase a two year old down 4 blocks of pavement running in them, I dont buy them. I did once fight an entire feild battle in the SCA wearing 4 inch heeled boots.........

I havealways had a think for shoes....in the 4th grade we had to write an essay about our heros....I wrote about Amel Demarcos....My mom realized she had a problem about then.....

earthycouple -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (9/12/2007 1:45:14 PM)

my 7 year old just got her DIBELS report (how well she reads and comprehends)...the target goal for her grade is 50 for knowing letter sounds and target goal is 44 for reading words correctly....her current level respectively is 136 and 92.  Methinks she's met goal...I am going to have a scary smart kid on my hands.....

Donna, I know how you feel. Mine always tests above and beyond where she is supposed to be. Right now, with this current test they took for reading level and such she is at a 5th grade, 3rd month level and she just started 3rd grade. At her previous school they used the ITBS for placement levels for all the immigrant children and she, since kindergarten, has always been in the 90th and above percentile. It is scary to think they are that smart...Ugh, now if I could just get her to focus and stay on task without having to get mean about it life would be good.

SageFemmexx -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (9/12/2007 2:06:39 PM)

Now now, take heart. Those scary smart kids can be great fun and grow up to be awesome. My youngest daughter tested at 161 IQ in elementary school and earned her Ph.D in biochemical engineering at Georgia Tech while in her 20s. She is presently working on a Nobel prize for cancer research. In her spare time she teaches belly dancing, draws and paints, plays piano, is a gourmet cook and volunteers in her community.

The trick? Always set goals that inspire them--always give them a good grounding in self esteem and faith in themselves and always believe in them. Good grades and exceptional reading scores don't mean a thing if they don't have their feet firmly on the ground while their heads are in the stars.

Good luck everyone with your wonderful kids.

I *don't* want to trash any shoes at all. I've been known to pay good money on shoes that looked sturdy enough to get me through a set only to have them disintegrate in the middle of me playing. Maybe I'm just not good at finding these sturdy shoes you speak of.

So, that being said: Our Lady of the Sturdy Shoes, what would you recommend to go with this? I think I still have shoes to go with the one that looks like this, but I don't know... I have problems with heels over 3", but since I'm 6'3" anyway I don't need it for anything but "making it look right."

I'm finally going home from work - only 5.5h late...

BTW - on smart kids: best thing I was ever taught by my father (other than how to drive while drunk (directly) and where the clitoris and Skene's Gland are (indirectly)) was the following: "'Above Average' means that at least half the people in the room aren't as smart as you. It also means that it's still quite likely that you're not the smartest person in the room either. Treat them all the same and it might still go well for you."
