Whew, all caught up. Afternoon all.

sappatoti -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (10/2/2007 11:06:08 AM)

Ah, welcome back Cuffs. I read some of your earlier posts that your bug bites led to a medical visit. What say the medical pros?

cuffnspankme -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (10/2/2007 11:12:36 AM)

They don't say much. Gave me a stong antihistamine and told me to put some aloe with liodocaine in it on them to help with the topical itch. So far it helps a little. I got some sleep last night and then took one again after I took the UM to school this AM and passed out on the couch for a few hours.

sappatoti -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (10/2/2007 11:27:09 AM)

I'm sorry your trip to Florida left you with some unamusing reminders. I've never heard of no-see-ums actually biting anyone, though if you laid out on the sand for any length of time over five or ten minutes, the teensy sand fleas may have been the actual biters. Either they or perhaps those pesky fire ants, which can leave extremely painful and itchy bites.

Just take it easy and allow your body to reacquaint itself with your home climate. :)

cuffnspankme -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (10/2/2007 11:35:09 AM)

No, they weren't sand fleas, unless they fly. I first got bit sitting on the veranda of the cottage we had. All my FL relatives and the DR my sis in law saw down there for her bites and the PA I saw last night all said they were no seeums. Their actual name is biting flying midgees or was it flying biting midgees, I forget. Little black specs that I would feel bite me then look down and see it and smack my arm or leg or what ever.

sappatoti -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (10/2/2007 11:39:40 AM)

OK, then those pesky little flies they are. But, here in the desert of Central FL, they're not called noseeums, they're simply called midgies. Noseeums are something else.

And yes, those midgies are nasty creatures... especially if you're trying to do yardwork and they get in your eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. Nasty critters they are.

Of course, now the lovebugs are out, so we've got something else to swat at... besides each other.

cuffnspankme -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (10/2/2007 11:48:04 AM)

Ran into the lovebugs as well, reminded me a little of the Box Elder bugs we have here, in the way they swarm a house, especially around the door. I have an uncle in Ocala and they had a ton around their door when we visited.

sappatoti -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (10/2/2007 11:51:58 AM)

I went outside to mow the lawn this past weekend, and as I ran over the turf, clouds of lovebugs erupted in much the same way that dust rolls out of a vacuum's filter bag when you throw it into the trash. Between the midgies and the lovebugs impairing my ability to breathe, it took about five hours to do the yardwork.

>:(

But I know of what Ron seeks... it's all around me... trailers with their aluminum skins peeling... bits of roofing lifting up during the slightest breeze... multiple rottweilers chained out in the front yard, complete with the indented circle of dirt/mud/sand from where they've dug up by ceaselessly trying to break the chains to chase down vehicles on the road... washing machine out front on its side with the tub sitting on top of the box... clothes dryer out in the back being used as the weight that keeps the clothes line pole standing upright... rusted out hulks of cars, boats, trucks, and semi-trailers strewn about... and a couple of rowboats sitting out nearby a dock in a small depression that used to contain water from a pond, but only now contains muck, grass, and small trees and shrubs.

I see a lot when I travel between here and Tampa. :)

ooohhh....I forgot to mention the rottweiler chained up out front.......

GhitaAmati -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (10/2/2007 12:12:37 PM)

from now on...anyone who travels through florida is required to give me a copy of their iteneraty and commit my phone number to memory at least two weeks prior to embarking on said trip.....

GhitaAmati -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (10/2/2007 12:15:36 PM)

ocilla -> RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh! (10/2/2007 12:16:01 PM)
