Remodeling the rainbow room...are you planning on keeping the rainbow...or erhm...moving to something more...muted?...I think If you pain over the rainbow, you need to replace it with some reminder of the rainbow....a small rainbow needs to be somewhere...cant get rid of it compleatly...sentiment and all that....Flooring...depends. What is the room specifically going to be used for? Is this a "hang out" room...or a sceneing room...or a bedroom?..or all of the above...ooh...does e01n get to sleep in the dungeon?? If this is a bedroom or hangout room, Id suggest something like pergo. Not necessarily that brand, even the similar lock together stuff is really great quality anymore, great to keep clean in case someone spills their margharita. Can always put down nice throw rugs to help with the sound echo issue if you have one of those cause Im remembering something about this being a basement...Carpet...along with a good quality padding it can really warm up a room, and deaden the sound issue quite a bit, but they are an issue to keep clean and really affect some peoples allergies. If you dont have an allergy issue and really like carpet, the FLOR tiles are great if this is going to be an area prone to spills. Tile...ceramic tile is really hard to stand on, really pretty, but anything that drops is going to shatter, there is no "give" and if you are gonna spend anytime standing in this room, your joints are gonna kill you. If you are going to have anyone who is going to be standing in this room for hours at a time..ie walking around a spanking bench or two..hehe...who happens to have sore knees or anything, you might want to look into the cork tiles. They are really really pretty, seal well so they are easy to keep clean like wood floors, and really comfortable to stand on. They often suggest them to people with knee and hip problems to install in their homes. Great stuff actually.

Baths....I love a nice long hot bath....unfortunantly it doesnt happen very often in my house...

Salts...yea..I use them..so does Sir...for mainly the same reasons bear mentioned...I dont think its really...girly.....but then we arent using the pink smelly stuff.....

Bubbles...bubbles are a bit more girly I guess...but then all three of my male UMs really love them...so..shrugs...maybe girls are just more easily allowed to feel childish...

Loaning out husbands....I apparently have an extra if anyone wants him...Im not sure where he came from but I got introduced as his "other" wife at a cub scout event this weekend...his names Dave...

Loaning out subs...erhm...yea....been on the not so fun end of that one once or twice...and a few times ...well damn it was fun...hehe...oh darling hunny Sir?..you think you could loan me to that Michael dude again...oh erhm..I did NOT just say that.....

ooh...now there are pictures...now that I wrote all that about the rainbow room up there....Whats the ceiling made out of...can you recess the lighting? I personally kind of like the rainbow...I was expecting..well...your basic run of the mill arched rainbow....but I guess it depends on what the room is going to be used for...everytime Ive heard you mention the "rainbow room" I get all nostalgic...cause that was the name of this really awesome piano bar in jacksonville I used to hang out in..was the only leather piano bar Ive ever seen..was fun....ok...so I was always the only female there for some reason...shrugs...definantly agree your flooring has some....issues....

the Rainbow room is multi purpose. e01n sleeps there. I sleep and nap there occasionally. It houses e01n's belongings, it is the dungeon space and also storage for any and all props we may want to use during our alone time. It is also a quiet meditative spot for the two of us. Beyond e01n and myself the room is unoccupied by others. So for example, if I truly want a St. Andrews in the corner I can make it happen since doors have locks and no one else has a need to enter said room. The UMs already know that it's his bedroom and not to be encroached upon by them.

I kinda like the thought of cork.

Hm.....natural lighting. I don't think we are in that room enough to warrant that. Most of our time is spent with the family and when e01n and I are in the Rainbow Room it is usually after dark anyway.

I agree with fabric issues. I just did a room for my husband nearly completely in fabric and I think I want something else for e01n and I.

D and Trapp- Yesterday comment on the Bath, I do use soap when I shower. I take a relaxing Bath every twice a year, if I feel really crappy, tired, or depressed. Even when I do bathe just because of liking shower I usually shower after Bathing. So I feel clean while feeling relaxed.

Well just saying hello's Very busy day today. Class from 10am-9pm with only two breaks. *Yawns*
Anyways need to start getting ready I hope everyone morning, day, evening, and night goes well.

Rainbow room stats: I got them wrong - it's 15 foot by 15 foot with an extended bit that's 2 studs wide (I think) for the closet area on the 4th wall. The ceiling is std drywall over the joists.

After researching, I'm not really liking what I saw in the FLOR catalog - I mean, it's nice but the $/sq.ft is a bit high for doing the whole room that way. When researching cork flooring, I found a really great company (http://www.corkfloor.com/index.html) that not only makes tiles and rolls in different colors they also do patterned inlays. Also, since neither D or I are getting any younger, I'm thinking that something on the floor needs to be a bit cushy... so even if we go with a laminate, we need a resilient underlayment over the concrete subfloor. I kind of dig what I found at http://www.gerbertltd.com/rubberflooring.htm...

Oh, did I also mention that this room is below grade?

In it's own way, the rainbow river is pretty rockin' - but it's clearly a kids room decorating idea. And I like having my room/The Playroom being called The Rainbow Room... makes me want to have a small bar that has fixins for a damn good martini and some good lounge music going as well.... And after last night watching the Graham Norton "come along" in the audience, She wants a stripper pole in the room. So I'm now leaning towards doing maybe a 60s Vegas-y theme with a colored cork ceiling (the ceiling is pretty bad for sound transmission) and fairly plain walls (Ocilla has a good point about the allergy aspects of fabric walls).

But we're on a budget... so yeah, creativity is a must in getting this done.

Lighting? Eh, I'd like something adjustable like the track lights, but not quite as intrusive into the center of the room. If I could just move them outwards a bit...

Skyclad: yeah, it'd work that way too. In that case, you could do the abbreviated version - face east, down the cuppa like a shot and say: "God(ess)! I needed that!"

Skylad pt2: I often like to be that way in "ritual," so I'm having to adjust my morning patterns a bit to accomodate the aesthetics of others...

Ritual v Ceremony: Me, I tend to be solitary (or paired) with a bit of group work. Others like being group-workers with occasional solitary work. No big deal... it happens like that. Half of one... yadda yadda yadda

Baths: epsom salts are great... then I ruin them by throwing in some essential oils and then trancing out. Oh well...

Witchy-poo-ness: eh, I get this way every Octiober and it doesn't leave until 1 May or so... gofigyah. Me and my unseelie ways...

Cork is a great sound deadener and also very easy on the feet....

Natural light. In truth, if it is only to be used after dark, you may not need much extra care in the light department, but it would be surprising how much a change just a few full spectrum lights can bring to a room. Meditation, sleeping, playing....I think there definantly needs to be a change in decor for any of those mentioned things happening well....
