Absolutely not: the doctor had to make a medical decision based on his patient's condition. Cutting the leg off was more beneficial to the patient than keeping it: he had tried to commit suicide, if I remember correctly: it wasn't for a laugh. So chop! Off it went. I agree with you that it's difficult to understand medicine at times. It's a complex discipline...
