I keep reading posts for subs seeking a "Master". Most have a fantacy image of a "Master". It's like they're shopping for a new car that has to have just the right accessories. The Master has to be a model 657-A, Version-Beta with the upgrade.
First, there ain't no such imaginary critter. And secondly, this is a relationship between two unique people. The Master, who is the perfect Master for a particular slave, may not be that idealized, 6", blond, blue eyed, hung, super intelligent hunk.
The best Master I had was scrawny, 4 inches shorter than me, 35 lbs. lighter and wore glasses. But we emotionally clicked. Yeah, I could have taken him out any time I wanted, yet I never questioned his complete authority over me. That's why I think that subs who desire some fantasy version of a Master are missing the point. Your Master is going to be a flesh and blood human being, not some fantasy. It's the relationship that counts.

I know very few people who seek perfection. Those that do, usually do so because it prevents them from getting into a real relationship where they would be emotionally vulnerable and at risk of getting their heart broken again. But since they're denying the pain the carry, they aren't able to admit they aren't ready. So they protect themselves by demanding the nonexistant.

I wouldn't say they need to grow up, I'd wish them good luck healing.
YMMV of course.

I'm so amazed by the fantasy aspect of subs seeking a Master. We've all read posts fom subs that say "my Master is so intelligent, god like, strong, dominant and so sexy. I'm waiting for his second email". Her "Master" isn't a human being, he's some fantasy image. I think that they are missing the point that BDSM is an intimate relationship between real people with unique qualities. Nobody could live up to a fantasy image. It's kind of like marrying a guy, not for who he is, but for what she thinks he should be.

Yes, and they will not settle for less. The whining over the lack of twue masters is astoundingly annoying. But that's life in the land of instant gratification. Why do something that requires work and compromise-when you can just play with a vibrator and imagine?

Many people get online and self grandiose either that they do not really take the medium seriously, think everyone lies and exaggerates therefore they do as well or are so skeptical that unless the fantasy person replies to them they are not going to waste their time.

It is a shame but there are a ton out there that think going online means that rich man with an incredible body and perfect personality will now be attracted to you and that much younger and pretty woman will now be attracted to your much older and out of shape man.

What makes us truly compatible and are hearts go a flutter is often lost once our skepticism and societal filters are put on but in all honesty I think most just lose reality when they get online. They buy into the perfect image they make themselves out to be and expect perfection in return.

how about the fantasy object of a Master seeking a slave who is perfect. who doesn't have any hangups. but then again are those truly Masters? i just look over the girls who want perfection or email them, and get back a nasty or polite email saying i am not perfect, for laughs. most don't block me after that the first message so i ask them why are they looking for prefection. and they say i am not i am just looking for what i think is the best Master in the world. which they will never find that Master they will have to lower their standards.

Vanilla or not, I've never liked (nor succeeded in) the dating scene. People I've grown to love and respect have all been met somewhat by chance. I suppose when you're actively searching on a site where others are actively searching, then one shops around for the best deal. They try to be informed consumers. If I had my pick of the litter (and I was choosing a new puppy) I'd shop around for the best one. Why should it be any different with dominants or submissives?

There is the situation of demographic requirements. Many people 86 potentially great partners because they don't meet a requirement. If My Pet (she's 5'5'') was searching for men only 5'5'' and taller, she'd never find me. Not to ring my own bell, but I think her and I get along alright =).

People are often confused by media, pornography, stories, fiction, and fantasy. This inability to see the real world causes people to miss out on the good stuff, and even worse, get suckered into bad situations.

It reminds me of a story. I was once turned down by a woman in a rude manner, to say the least. I wanted to say... "Miss, I pray you find yourself the tall, blonde, blue eyed, muscular, six-pack sporting surfer who reads to orphans and teaches at the University of Miami that you've always been looking for. I just hope he doesn't cheat on you with your friends, as they're also creaming for him." I didn't say that, I took the high road. The point is, it's so easy to forget the real world. I'm blessed to have a slave and lover who doesn't look at the world in demographics.

I'm off track. Let them search how they will. Hopefully these wayward submissives will learn that good looks and experience do not equate to respect and chemistry.

I don't read submissives' profiles, so I don't know how prevalent the search for the
"perfect Master" is, but from reading a lot of Dom's profiles, I know that a whole bunch of them are looking for the "perfect sub". If they make a life sized Barbie in Chains, a lot of these guys will finally find twue happiness.
