OMG, I knew I liked you AS...

I made a raspberry mead once ...with berries I picked in my yard. It was the best...about a year later! Not overly sweet and with a bit of a spritz.

Oooo... I wants some...

Valyraen and I are looking into making our own beer soonish (if we can figure out where in our tiny house to do it). I hope to expand into wines and meads.

By the way, do you mull yours? I love mead, but when it is warm and mulled I love it even more!

Sometimes I like hot mulled wine, yes. In fact...to heat up a couple cups of red jug-wine and add perhaps half a cup of sugar and then...add a couple tea-bags of orange-spiced tea and let it steep a bit...is yummieeeeeeeee!!! ohhhhhhhh...it's almost that time of year, too; we're already getting snow a bit higher up!!!

DO NOT BOIL the wine...it will taste bitter as hell (not to mention burn off all the alcohol!)

I used to brew beer, too; my Dark Raspberry Ale won a ribbon, too! It was quite dark, almost chocolatie...very rich with a hint of raspberry in there too. Beer is easier than wine; sort of 'instant gratification'...ya know?

I have mulled mead before. I went the lazy route of Chaucers and the mulling packets that they give you with the bottle.

We've never brewed anything so we are really looking forward to it. The only problem is that he mostly likes ales and I mostly like lagers. Hmm... wonder who is going to get their beer brewed first?

AS... lagers are brewed differently and require...well...a bit more work/equipment. If it is the 'full flavor' of ales that you have trouble with, perhaps he could make a milder one for you? It's a blast to make your own... don't go the kit-route though! Ugg

Kits, even like those packets of mulled-mix stuff...don't taste anywhere near as good as if you do it yourself. Go to Amazon.com and find some used books by Charlie Papazian...he brews it all!!! Funny guy, too; a good read.

Nuuu.... don't tell me that!

Ahh well. Once we get out of the townhouse and into a bigger place, hopefully with a basement, we can brew different types. I like certain ales.

We were going to go the kit route for the first few times to make sure we have the process down before branching out. I'll show him that book though! We have a really nice home-brew store in our area. The staff are really helpful.

Perfect! Charlie has written several books; all are worth the money.

I find bags of my own grain better than kits; WAY better and no more difficult to brew. Talk to your new friends at the brew-store!

To the "Boss" and Ghita -- Majorly Huge Congrats ! The suspense was getting pretty heavy. I kept this page open without logging out overnight and today -- just so I wouldn't lose it. I've read every word from start to finish... Ye gads! it was better than TV!

For our wedding night, we uncorked a bottle of 12 year old mead....oh...WOW....was it ever amazing. I have a mango mead working right now...first time Ive ever tried it so we'll see what happens. I want it to be ready by march for Gulf Wars.

I'm not amazed...I grew up learning I better learn how do do what I needed done or pay for it...because I might not have a man around to do it for me...so I can change oil, lube, change tires, check and refill fluids, flush the system...blah blah blah...and that's only on a vehicle....I am quite handy inside too *S*

Of course...if I have a man around, well....ahem....

I can change a tire with the best of them, check and fill fluids, jump it if I have to, and start a stick shift by popping the clutch while someone pushes it. But I never changed the oil, lol. I commend both of you!

Why not do both?

I do the regular tune ups and oil changes on the cars and the truck. I also work on the bikes, take care of the (motorcycle type) toys, at the Boogie i even went and got a buddies mini chopper up and running after he threw in the towel.

I am pretty sure Scooter thinks i give a decent blow job or maybe not because he is constantly giving me more practice at them..........
