canupleaseme -> whats what when it comes to eating 'dog' food? (9/19/2007 2:31:50 PM)

Ok this is something i wish to learn more about and am looking for some useful infomation regarding having your boy/girl/insert your own , eat dog food?

Its something that I wish to incorporate in some way.  I am not at all sure i like the idea of him actually eating dog food for several reason 1, it stinks
                      2, its dog food
                     3, is it safe ?
I like the idea of making him think he is eating dog food by using a substitute, things like tinned stewing steak, my question is what has anyone else used and was it really convincing?
Does anybody have any suggestions or tips about this kind of play ?

Thank you [:)]

Dog food eh? This is what i have to say about dog food

Recently I was in Wal-Mart buying a large bag of Purina for my dog and was in line to check out. A woman behind me asked me if I had a dog  (DUHHHH!!) I was feeling a bit crabby so on impulse, I told her NO and that I was starting The Purina Diet again, although I probably shouldn't because I ended up in the hospital the last time. BUT, I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care unit with tubes coming out of mouth and IV's in both arms.
Her eyes about bugged out of her head. I went on and on with the bogus diet story and she was totally buying it. I told her that  it was an easy, inexpensive diet and that the way it works is to load your pockets or purse with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The package said the food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story, particularly a tall guy behind her). Horrified, she asked if something in the dog food had poisoned me and was that why I ended up in the hospital.
I said, Oh NO!, I'd been laying in the street licking my balls when a car hit me.

I thought the tall guy in back of the line was going to have to be carried out!

Aside the obvious joke I posted

This idea may work for you. As a kid, we used to attend the local wrestling events at the Mid South Coliseum. Some of the matches were obviously meant to tweak and have fun at the audiences expense. One of the favorites was a "Loser eats dog food" match. Supposedly the loser would moan and groan and protest and beg not to be forced to eat dog food. A dog food can would be brought to the ring and opened. The losing wrestler would feign being sickened as if the dog food was making him gag. The trick however was, the true can label was removed beforehand  and replaced with a popular dog food label. The cans real ingredients?  Refried beans.
So maybe getting a can of refried beans and a can of dog food and switching the label off might help???  Just an idea!!

Edited for typos

Thankyou [:)]  I decided to get a cn in the house and place it strategically so he knows its there and just building the idea up till one day I'm dishing it up in his bowl and he has to eat it.  I thikn i will have to spend all week trying to make something very realistic with various things and as you say switching the label[:D]

Thanks for sharing [:)]I didnt do it but I rember my sister doing it when she was little.  The smell makes me heave well dog food does cat food is marginally better.
To be honest though judging by some of the commercials now on telly cats and dogs are eating a la carte its seems.lol

Remember to re-glue the label very carefully??????? Taping the label would be an obvious giveaway. Unless you use that clear 2 sided tape on the backside.

I have to share this. A g/f of mine loves to give her little doggie those jerky type snacks.  She had left them out one day while some of us were at her place hanging out. One of our friends grabbed one and started munching on it. Someone else was aware enough to point out to him that he was not eating beef jerky meant for human consumption and he was actually eating a doggy snack

LOL!! Obviously he didnt live that one down for awhile. WOOF WOOF!!

Lol what you dont know wont hurt you.  I can remeber as a child sitting down to have my tea and my dad had made a pie, he said it was chicken.  We ate it and it was nice.  When we finished tea and went outside my sister put something in the bin and say the outside of a rabbit!!!  We ran inside screaming and my dad eventually had to tell us that it was what he had caught out on the farm and he knew we wouldnt eat it if he told us it was rabbit so he lied.  I remeber being furious and saying I hated it but really I had enjoyed it.  Looking back I think its very funny.  I am hoping I can be convincing with what I serve up[:)]

Okay...this has been a REALLY fun thread, but...don't you people have a sense of smell?  Is it just because I'm a cook that I'd know in a heart-beat that canned stew was not dog-food?

Okay, 'light, flake tuna' DOES look, smell and taste like catfood; but I've never found a catfood or a dog food that could be confused with petfood.

Common...that lable changing is only gonna work IF ya blindfold the 'pup' and make him smell the real thing first!

Oh I know it wont smell the same thats my problem.  I have no idea what I could use to make it smell similar
I havent out using the real stuff yet or maybe adding a small amount of real for the smell.  Thank you for the blindfold idea too I hadnt thought of that [:D]

To me, liver pate smells and looks just like canned dogfood. Not sure if that is helpful to you, but it is why I never touch the stuff. *L*

*fast reply*
A while back I saw a post on here or somewhere similar about using a can of corned beef hash in lieu of dog food, you get the proper consistancy and strong smell.  I don't know if that is available where you are though.  Just an idea :)

canupleaseme -> RE: whats what when it comes to eating 'dog' food? (9/20/2007 1:19:13 AM)

Thanks guys. I might mix liver pate with corned beef and some ex wifes cooking lol
The substitute ideas are greta thanks guys I will let you all know if I find an excellent replacement[:)]

Potted ham or potted meat product, I think it is called now - made by amour - comes in a little blue labeled can.  Find it in the canned meat section - always near the tuna. The can is the exact same size as one f the gourmet cans like mighty dog or some such - well actually - I know it is the same size as the smaller cat cans not sure about the dog cans.
Now I am a true Southerner so in fact grew up eating this - it is the equivalent of the French rillets so although we Americans find it to have a a high ewwww factor the French eat it daily and consider it haute cuisine.  I have to admit - if feeling suitably nostalgic and I was offered a potted ham sando - I would be a happy camper - but it is probably an acquired taste.  Anyhow - it is a strange pinkish color, pureed and has a meaty smell perhaps like quality dog food.  The corned beef thing is a good idea as would any of the canned meats - chicken, deviled ham or meat.

Finally, you have to return and tell us how it turns out!

cuckme - you are too funny.  Oh maybe a glue stick or rubber cement for the label adhesive.

I've heard that joke like 50 times already.  Everyone tries to claim it as their own....
