ficklemuse -> healty weightloss-- without the price? (9/22/2007 9:27:21 PM)

alright- i looked through the last few pages and didn't see this covered, but perhaps i'm just missing it. i was wondering if A/anyone knows of some good weightloss/fitness sites?
i'm not overly fat, just out of shape, and hoping to get back in shape to please my new Master.[:)]
i was wondering if A/anyone knew of any free sites or had good book suggestions? any help would be greatly appreciated.
Much Thanks-
fickle.muse

south beach works wonders...learn how to eat not what to eat...and exercise for fun not for a goal...

greetings ficklemuse,

here are some of my favorite free sites related to health and fitness.

self's workout video archive (a REALLY good resource if you cannot afford or do not want to spend money on workout videos): http://www.self.com/magazine/articles/2007/08/0820fit_video_archive
3 fat chicks on a diet (info, reviews, and discussion of every diet imaginable): http://www.3fatchicks.com/
fitday (pretty much the best free food/weight tracker, hands down): http://www.fitday.com

currently the plan i am on with my nutritionist is to drink only (or at least mostly) water and 1% milk, eat every 2-4 hours, try to eat at least 3 different food groups at every meal, eat within 2 hours of waking, and try to limit fried food to 2 times a week and sweets to 2 times a week. i feel a lot better having cut back on almost all other beverages besides water and milk, and i've been slowly starting to repair my metabolism (it was really damaged, which made me gain and keep weight on for a long time).

one of the best things i can add also is to make sure you take a multivitamin, and get your vitamin and mineral levels checked to make sure you have no deficiencies. i have serious problems with b12 and iron...right now i am getting b12 injections because i get a lot from my multi and my diet but i'm not absorbing it for some reason. those things can really affect cognitive functioning, energy levels, as well as many other areas of your life so it is worth getting checked out.

also, i cannot second enough what has already been said about finding exercise you like. i love swimming at the gym, and sometimes doing elliptical, but when  the gym is closed or i am having too much social anxiety to get there, i have some pretty awesome workout videos. my favorites are ana brett and ravi singh's yoga videos (i have yoga beauty body, yoga bliss hips, and dance the chakras), and the yogazone ultimate collection. carmen electra's fit to strip and veena and neena's bellydance videos are kind of fun, too, but not as good of a workout (and somewhat silly at times).

best of luck to you.

respectfully,
annabelle.

ficklemuse -> RE: healty weightloss-- without the price? (9/23/2007 7:25:05 AM)

thank Y/you both very much :)
i don't have a lot of money right now, so the sites really help annabelle. and while i do usually eat south beach- eating healthy without the exercise isn't good for me- so i needed some work outs more than anything... you A/all know how that goes i'm sure. i have to say wow annabelle that sounds intense (but fun).
is A/anyone else dabling in the feild of diet and exercise right now as well?

Pyrrsefanie -> RE: healty weightloss-- without the price? (9/23/2007 8:10:09 AM)

The best exercise I've ever done is taking up bellydancing.

I started when I was 16 and have found that it does absolute wonders on a physical AND a psychological level.  Classes are usually fairly cheap, and if you're a filthy internet pirate like I am, you can find torrents of bellydancing videos on sites like ISOHunt and TorrentSpy.  I recommend Jillina's Art of Bellydance and the Neena & Veena series of instruction... stay as far away from Dolphina's "Goddess Workout" as possible, she's a hack.

Also good, if not a bit cheesy, is Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease series.  I've got the box set and it's a Hell of a workout with some cute choreography that you could use in the bedroom.  Just put it on mute so you don't have to listen to her and it makes it a thousand times better.

I second that!! Been following South Beach for almost 4 years now, very healthy way to eat, and love not having sweet cravings anymore.[:)]

I'll have to chime in for south beach too....It works if you work it....and walking or something...ANYTHING...just move some everyday....

chellekitty -> RE: healty weightloss-- without the price? (9/23/2007 3:46:26 PM)

the "exercise" i am looking at doing is putting together or buying a dance mix cd -they have ones at barnes and noble that are mixed by DJ's that have the same basic beat the whole length of the cd that that are like 2 hours long....but they are like $20 so waiting on the first of the month to buy it... and just waiting for the no ones around time (Dad at work, bro at school, mom somewhere...) and blasting music and not caring what i look like and dancing, just getting up and moving around for 30 minutes to an hour, every day or every other day....cause thats what works for me

hisannabelle -> RE: healty weightloss-- without the price? (9/25/2007 2:31:48 AM)

greetings all,

in general, it is always good to consult with a physician before starting a new diet/exercise program. most people i know do not do that...the average reasonable person does not do that. but it is medically necessary to consult with one if you are dropping more than 2-3 lbs per week, cutting out most or all of an entire food group, or cutting below 1200 calories. i do not know the actual requirements of kimkins, calorie restriction with optimal nutrition, or other kinds of diets that i have heard do things like this...but regardless (of whether those specific diets do this or not), if you are going to follow any diet plan that does those things...it is absolutely imperative that you be under the care of a physician.

for many people, those methods are good and helpful, but there is a much higher risk of serious damage to one's metabolism and many areas of one's body, so it is even more important to be very conscious of following an eating or exercising plan that recommends severe calorie restriction and cutting out most or all of a food group, or causes rapid (more than is normal or healthy - 2-3lbs per week is a generally accepted guideline) weight loss than one would of other eating plans. please, please seek out the guidance and monitoring of a physician if you are doing so, just to make sure that you are doing it in the safest way possible and not causing damage to your body.

please take care of yourselves, whatever you do.

respectfully,
annabelle.

I'd be wary of Kimkins and Kimkins.com.

1) The diet is based on a woman who claims to have lost almost 200lbs in one year and is now 118lbs. In fact surveillance photos have shown that she has never lost the weight and looks to be over 300lbs. She's a fraud.

2) There have been a number of people that have suffered permanent health problems from following her diet. She is not a doctor and has no training.

3) People have paid the $60 for access to her website and have been banned without refund.

4) She's the target of a class action lawsuit and is being investigated by the authorities for fraud.

All you have to do is a Google search and you'll find a plethora of websites.

Well, I haven't heard anything  bad about kimkins.  Like I said, I've been quite successful and feel very good.  I will google her and do some research.  Honestly, I've been on many a diet and this one is working for me.  That being said, this may not be for everyone.  My doctor is thrilled with my loss and my method of doing it.  I haven't had any issues.

NICouple -> RE: healty weightloss-- without the price? (10/1/2007 6:28:35 PM)

swimming is always a good one, Belly Dancing has a lot of benefits, good cardio, and it's well documented that 95% of diets fail and the dieter regains all the weight and then some within 5 years. (I wish I could get bye on a 95% failure rate in my work)

ask yourself why there is a new fad diet popping up every year or so, Eat Carbs, Don't Eat Carbs, Eat Meat, Don't Eat Meat, eat this, don't eat that, if they knew what they were talking about they wouldn't be comeing up with new diets every couple of months.

I strongly recommend you consult a doctor who hasn't bought into multi billion dollar a year "Obesity Epidemic" crap.

anyone seen Jenny Craig lately?

a good medical diet and cardio exercise is what you need.

onlyHisgirl -> RE: healty weightloss-- without the price? (10/1/2007 8:33:30 PM)

A fun workout is the goddess workout to bellydancing.  i did it everyday for like 15 minutes (i suggest the dvd, it's easier to "fast forward" to the next thing) and in 2 weeks i lost 5 inches off my waist.
It started off as a "joke" but after my first viewing...my arms burned, my belly was sore and i was hooked ;-)

Leonardo -> RE: healty weightloss-- without the price? (10/4/2007 6:46:16 AM)

Once upon a time, when my hair was thinning out, I would have alot of bald barbers and hair dressers telling me about all the hair products that allegedly worked so well.... yet they were bald, themselves.

All the fad diets combined don't work..... just look and see the proof in the pudding. They only provide the person with a roller coaster ride. Even the subway guy's more recent commercials shows that he, too, has started getting back up in size.

Basically, most weight gain is related to a person's lifestyle and behavioral characteristics. Until a person changes those two elements, that person may lose weight and size through "quick fixes" but there is a very high probability that the weight and size will not only return, but many times even exceed prior weight and size.

I've been aware of "Kimmer" since 2001. I know what she's about.

This diet isn't for anyone. It's low carb, low fat and very low calorie. Starvation will cause you to lose weight. End of story.

People are reporting heart problems, bone pain, thyroid problems, gall bladder problems. Kimkins poster child, who was on the cover of Woman's World  magazine, has been in and out of the hospital for the past week with heart issues.

Plus, most of the "success stories" after pictures cam from a Russian mail order bride site. Including Kimmer's own after picture.

KTLA is doing an expose on her (you can see the video at their site).

The Kimkins site is being scrubbed clean because the authorities are looking at her hard. She's in huge trouble.

Thanks for posting this [:)] I've been looking for a belly dancing DVD but couldn't find a recommendation.

OP- small changes in the right direction work better than going gung ho on any program IMHO. Swear off bread, white sugar, multiple servings, sodas, excess caffeine. One thing at a time. Add in more fruit, veggies, good proteins (not bologna & sausages & such), water, herbal teas. Give up so many hours in front of the TV. Add in longer walks or taking the stairs. Just a few changes can make big differences in gearing up and staying motivated. After a few weeks or a few months look at a few more changes, maybe adding in trips to the gym, weights, aerobics. At that point it's a heck of alot easier to keep going and your inner kid (and body) won't revolt [:D]

Make goals and stick to them. But do it realistically setting up check points and yes rewards (non food hopefully) to make it even more pleasant obtaining them.

Body for Life is a free website with meal plans and work out routines. They will encourage you to buy the powder and energy drinks. However, just decide not to be lazy and prepare all your meals ahead of time.

So enjoy the website and let me know how it works out for you.
