Twice -> RE: Men afraid of successful women? (9/24/2007 1:37:12 AM)

This has been a major issue for me.  I am pre-law and plan to run for the Senate in about 15-20 years.  However, I am also a submissive.  To me, it is extremely comforting to be able to be that political, up-front professional publicly and be able to come home and hand control over to someone else.  However, in past relationships, both vanilla and otherwise, it's been a major point of contention.  I actually think it's easier in a D/s relationship, since men seem to be afraid of not being able to assert any control over a successful woman.  My Dom, however, knows that, when I come home, I'm His.  I don't know if that makes a difference (I think He would love me the same no matter what, honestly), but I'm sure it definitely can't hurt.

How come 75% of women are intimidated by overachievers, and would prefer a man that just wants to get by? I'm outraged!!! LOL. It seems to me that 75% of the women want what most men want, and that is a partner that has free time, and energy. Oh that's so sexest.

I wouldn't prefer an overworked career woman myself, because she'll be overworked, and lacking in time. I'm so selfish.  The money wouldn't be an issue because I could just go spend it on hotels, and lingerie for my other woman, in her abscence. It all works out. hehe

That was my thought...the net ain't as secure as you may think Twice.

I have a fairly well-established career and business, although I gave up a very high paying job to do something I find beneficial because it's what makes me happy.  So, I can't say men are intimidated by my salary, but my profession maybe.  Although as Twice stated, in a d/s relationship I haven't found it to be as much of an issue. A Dom knows when someone is truly submissive, daytime personality or success doesn't really control the relationship.

I can't say I look for men just that have money or successful careers, but I can say I have more in common with those type of men and tend to end up with them because of that.

and to answer your response ChicagoSwitchMal, you hire someone to carry the bricks for you [8D]

Yeah I can sympathize with the men who are all aflutter with jealousy about women earning or having more money.

It must be tough for them and all - what with these women being able to buy them gifts, able to provide them with nice things generally, a great house and maybe a more wonderful life-style than they've ever known.

How do they stand it? My heart is bleeding for them. [;)]

Having been with several women that earn a lot more than me (a lowly artist). While I find them generous enough on one level, like all big earners, very few are overly generous and very few see people who earn less as equals, especially when the person concerned is their chosen partner. Two of my female friends buy me far more than they would ever buy their spouse.

The poor give a far bigger share of their income to good causes than the rich. That goes for both sexes.

Did you buy it or inherit it? going up on the roof doesn't mean you can carry bricks. It's not credibility.

I bought a company that was going under and merged it with my smaller one. If that makes any difference whatsoever.I've carried bricks hon, I've laid tile, I've carried shingles up a ladder and put them down, I weld, I've painted, put up drywall, I drive a dumptruck and a backhoe. I've done my share of "man" work since I was 10 years old when I started working with my Dad and as far as I am concerned I earned my stripes.  If you don't agree well it really doesn't make any difference to me thats your issue.

If a guy has a problem with this and I don't then who has the problem? I look at it this way if a man feels threatened by me thats his baggage and I don't want to be bothered with him. I would think a secure man wouldn't really care if the woman he was dating made more/less/same amount of money as he did as long as they had a decent relationship.

Polls consistantly show women do not value men by the size of their wallet as much anymore.

Apparently they have not read to many personals adds!  LOL

Then you are the exception, not the rule. I'd still love to see you carry the same load as a man for the same duration and intensity. Frankly it's just impossible and suggesting so defies common sense. It's an unavoidable consequence of boilogy that men are physically stronger than women, Period.

pahunkboy -> RE: Men afraid of successful women? (9/24/2007 5:28:20 AM)

I know a guy, 28; that wants a pretty girl that works- so he can party and stay home. Even worse, he wont consider a fat girl.

The knucklehead should grow up.

You come across as one of those that are uneasy/afraid of women in a so-called mans world.

Men fill labor jobs that women cannot do. On a construction site you will see a woman holding the "slow" sign. You might see them operating hydrolic equipment. You won't see them humping bricks. The infrastructure of society is built and has been built by men. This isn't a sexist statement. It's just a fact. The labors of men have afforded women to educate themselves to a level that matches and often supercedes men. I'm okay with that. I don't care if a woman makes more money than me. Most of the time a woman I'm with gets her way. Why? Because I don't care either way. But on the rare occasion I put my foot down I expect it to be respected regaurdless of who makes more money.
I will have to disagree with you partner. I work in a construction and I've seen plenty of women doing everything that men do. Career choice isn't a matter of education, it's a matter of preference. I would never be able to sit in a office for 8 hours. I can not come to the same place day after day, week after week, month after month... It drives me crazy! I get my work done and move on. I think every profession is becoming gender neutral. I'm yet to see a male secretary but I don't work in a office. As far as income goes both sexes are capable of making same money so it should be a challenge for a male if female make more money and the other way around. In the end all that matter is what makes you happy.

Thank you for the polite disagreement. But I stand by my statement. I currently work in an office and in that enviroment I agree that work should be gender nuetral. A woman can push a pencil or type a keyboard as well as a man. A woman is capable of making decisions just as well as a man. But I have not always been in an office. Prior to that I worked the docks, the railroad, factories and the military in the combat arms. In each case women worked side by side and in case they called a man over to help them with the hard part or didn't carry their weight. In the military when we'd get a march order the men would break the heavy stuff down while women either watched or picked up scraps of paper on the ground. In the factories women were quite able to operate the equipment but called a man over to tip the 500 pound drum to fill the equipement with the material they were working with. On the railroad men might spend the entire day out on a cold Chicago winter while the women were constantly shuttled back and forth to the office to warm up. When the wind chill is 40 below zero and you can't leave until the job is done it sucks balls having those jobs taken by women who can't it while men can because of some quota HR has to fill. On the docks one might be required to load a 53 foot trailer with truck tires by hand. A man get it's done in two hours. A woman looks at the task like she can't believe it was even handed to her and only loads a quarter of the trailer by an 8 hour shift. In each case the women felt like they were doing a mans work.

But this thread isn't about labor. It's about education. My point was that I actually applaud women education success. The fact that they see farther is because they are standing on the backs of men.

Admittedly it's been 7 years since I have been a laborer. Maybe things have changed. I can't see how, but maybe.

I assume this was directed at me. Why is it whenever a man disagrees with a woman in manner that disagrees with political correctness his confidence is automatically challenged? Sure it's PC to say "women can do anything a man can do" but the reality is quite different. Just have a brick carrying contest with a man to find that out for yourself.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: Men afraid of successful women? (9/24/2007 5:57:05 AM)

i'm not a famous celeb however with the concert reviews for the radio station i work for, i'm truly making a name for myself not from my own doing but from the bands i've reviewed and befriended.  before meeting my SO (who has no problem that i'm a local celeb), i've met guys who felt uncomfortable from the attention i would get from bands, their reps and their fans at the shows we would attend.  i suppose there was jealousy  (don't understand why) when most of my good friends are the bands themselves ...who knew being in the public eye 2 to 3 nights week could kill my romantic life. i would never "dumb down" my success ...i'm totally overwhelmed by the word of mouth about SouthSide (my station nom de plume) and her reviews yet very humbled because i tend to shy away from the spotlight.

camille65 -> RE: Men afraid of successful women? (9/24/2007 5:58:02 AM)

Because this was a discussion on women succeeding in the white collar setting and you brought up (more than once) blue collar jobs and finished off with

'But this thread isn't about labor. It's about education. My point was that I actually applaud women education success. The fact that they see farther is because they are standing on the backs of men.'

Adding that to your other comments on how a woman has to have assistance with every job, and how a 'woman stares at the labor job in shock' it leaves a reader wondering just why you are so heavy on the subject.
So, you come across as one of those that are not comfortable with working women.

Then I left the worng impression and am sorry for that. I was raised by a very strong single mother. In work I have answered to both men and women without descrimination. In my work now I work next to women and accept their opinions as much as a man because it's intellectual work. I'm heavy on the subject because its my experience and I think it applies in a roundabout way. I really don't mind a successful woman. I'm turned on by them. I still want to give men their dues that a woman is successful because men paved the way for it.

So if it was manual work you wouldn't?

My job can be quite manual, lots of cellar work, moving barrels etc. Yep i've been known to bat my eyes at the men and get them to do it but thats not because i can't do it because i can.
This male perception that women can't do certain jobs because they are female really p****s me off!!

cyberdude611 -> RE: Men afraid of successful women? (9/24/2007 7:15:37 AM)

I think ChicagoSwitch is trying to say that it is men who built civilization and created the infrastructure that has allowed women to become better educated and able to achieve. I dont think he is talking about specific jobs.

Men have allowed women to become better educated?
Excuse me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edited to add - And yes he has frequently stated women cannot do manual work like men.

Yes. I know it's not P.C. to say but face it. In the absence of laws affording women equality and the enforcement of those laws there is little preventing women from being utterly dominated by men. One only needs to see the current treatment of women in the middle east to see it happening now or look at any country's history to see it in the past. Equality is just on paper.
