I had my nipples pierced for quite awhile and oddly enough, the actual piercing wasn't all that painful as much as the sound made it seem like it should be more painful, much like the dentist using a drill.
You have to be very careful after they are pierced to not agitate the area until they are healed enough.  I made the unfortunate mistake of switching from stainless steel to gold hoops too soon and gold is much more porous and more likely to cause infections, which I did get and it was incredibly painful in a very not so good way.

Got my nipples pierced last January, they still haven't healed completely, and to be honest, at least once a week I think about taking them out. I can't tell you how many times I've caught the barbell on a shirt or a towel, etc etc. My nipples always were sensitive, and beause of that, I loved having them played with, but even still, if they're played with too roughly, they end up bleeding...

I think it's more of a novelty at this point than anything else.....but everyone is different. Get them done. They're not like tattoos which are permanent. You can always take them out...

i had my nipples pierced - it was actually how i came to meet the One who is now my Master!
i had quite a bit of trouble with mine over the course of about 10 or 11 months, and even after changing to titanium rings, i ended up taking them out. i still have 3 small cysts in one breast due to the piercings, but the reason i had so much trouble is that i had a breast reduction many years ago. My nipples were relocated, which means that the usual nerve endings and ducts were not attached - and consequently the ducts which flush out dirt and things to keep our breasts free of infection, could not work properly - hence the infections.
i loved my piercings and i was upset when we took them out, but i know that i would always have had problems - so my advice is that if you have had a reduction, think carefully, however having said that, i have a friend who also had a reduction, and she has her nipples pierced and has no problems at all!
And the other thing is, it hurt like hell, even with numbing cream - again i think because the nerve endings were different to a normal breast...

I had mine pierced about 2 years ago; the piercing was over very quickly, was just a flash of sharp pain (less than half as painful as stubbing my little toe on a doorstep, to give you a frame of reference); had no problems healing. I was not exceedingly happy with where the piercer lined up the holes, would have liked them back closer to the base. But I loved the look of the rings, and my nipples stayed erect constantly, and sensitivity was greatly increased. I was not much into nipple clamps, etc, anyway, so never tried that after they were done.

I had to take them out a year or so ago, due to a series of hospitilizations for abdominal surgery, and not wanting to have to keep swapping the rings out for the retainers so xrays could be done.

I had them redone about a month ago. It was more painful this time, due to tiny bit of scar tissue from the previous times. They were centered where I wanted them, and I got barbells this time, instead of rings. I do find the barbells more comfortable to wear, because the rings kept getting joggled up or down by moving or by clothes rubbing. The healing has been even faster this time, with no problems.

If you get barbells, sizing is important. You want the bar wide enough to allow for a little swelling, and still permit a Q tip width between the bead and the nipple, so that you can clean adequately. The first bars the piercer put in were too narrow, and made cleaning uncomfortable, and gave me a constant "pinching" sensation. At 2 weeks, I went back, got bars 1/8" longer, and the problem was solved.

I occasionally get the end of the barbell "nudged" by something, but have never had any bleeding or swelling. If your barbell is too long, it is going to run a much greater chance of getting caught on something. So, again, sizing is important. If anything is not comfortable afterwards, go and let your piercer re-check, and often it can be easily fixed.

yeah, i remember feeling the same way...it wasn't the initial piercing that hurt it was pushing the needle through and then pushing the barbell through.

i finally gave up and took mine out today. i agree, they looked sexy, but i felt like i was giving up too much else.

As a Domme, I am not at all fond of nipple piercings, I find they are a nuisance, they get in the way of play, I'm afraid of catching a toy or My hair in them and tearing the flesh, so I usually end up sticking medical tape over them which is a less than sexy look! I'd suggest a sub think long and hard about whether to have them done or not.

It is a proven fact that women have easier times having there nipples pierced then men do. It is also a proven fact that women that have breast fead feel less if any pain when it comes to the actual piercing. The hard part is the after care. Bar bells are nice but during the healing process it is sugested that hoops are worn. this helps in the cleaning and healing process. It can take anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks for your nipples to heal out but because to human body differs the healing proccess differs so the 8 to 12 weeks is just a guide line. I have known one person who did not heal for 2 years from there piercing but she also had medical issues. If you do decide to get them done get both done at the same time not one at a time your local piercer will explain why. Make sure you eat before you get this done as some people do pass out.

Wow.  About the only thing that you said in that post that was not completely wrong was "Make sure you eat before you get this done".

nope, men have an easier time, they don't have milk ducts and other breast feeding "tools"

see above...and all the men i've talked to said they didn't feel hardly anything and all the women i've talked to said it fucking hurt like hell...higher developed breast tissue and the afore mentioned breast feeding tools

i disagree with stef, you got this part right too...

quite the opposite...from all suggestions i've heard, and personal experince, hoops are the worst option....barbells are the way to go....

grouped it all together cause i am getting tired of typing "quote"....but...no, actually 2 years is the "normal" healing time....maybe 8 to 12 weeks for the outside to appear healed...but the inside is still healing....and there are some people that have "crusties" 10 years after having their nipples pierced....and they deal with it, becase they like it....

thats a personal choice...really...

well yes, but not right before...because while you don't want to pass out...vomitting on your piercer is not cool either....i would say aprox 1 to 2 hours before hand....

and my personal experience with having my nipples pierced...i have had them pierced twice with rings....had to take them out both times...one migrated and one got infected...both times, both did the same thing and it might have to do with i have large (DD cup) and dense (very very heavy and solid) breasts...so...not really willing to go through that again when there are so many other places to pierce....(thinking of making my snakebites into caninebites next <weg>....of course that illicits evil laughter from the head of my household at the thought of putting padlocks through the rings....could be fun for all of us....lol...)....so...go into it knowing that i may take up to 2 years to heal and that it may never heal....and it will hurt and door jams will be your enemy for months....and your nipples will be amazingly sensative even if you take them out (i can't take nipple torture like i used to ) and it all still sounds good....go for it...

take care
chelle

If the aftercare is hard you're doing something very, very wrong.

ok, maybe not hard, just a pain in the butt...cause you have to do it forever....semantics?

edited to add: forever compared to say a lip piercing....aftercare for 2 to 3 weeks and then its all good....

I had mine pierced about 8 years ago now, (wow I did not realize it was so long).  I have rings, niobium as I have had sensitivities to other metals, the piercer suggested the niobium.  The took about 6 months to heal fully. I love them as does Master.  Sensitivity is the same as before but it is something else to play with.  I have also used nipple shields however as they are silver after a few hours they start to irritate me so I make sure not to leave them in too long.  I have taken them out for xrays etc and found no difficulty replacing them later.  However I have not left them out for longer than one day.

My only suggestion is to find a reputable piercer, one who has done many and has a clean shop.  Follow the after care directions and keep them clean.

I still find at times I get some hard bits on the rings and I just clean them with water or in the shower.  I am also careful to make sure when showering there is no residual soap left, I rinse the rings last with clean warm water.

Over all I am glad I have them and would do it again.
