Just be yourself.  What's more dominant than being yourself?  And what's LESS dominant than dressing up as whatever you think a dom is supposed to look like?  That's what Halloween is for.

That's another good source for ideas in male "dominant" clothing: action movies. Don't bother looking at what the hero is wearing (he keeps getting beat up until the last reel anyway) but check out what the "heavies" are wearing. Think Alan Rickman in the first "Die Hard" flick, or the mobsters in any martial arts movie... Tons of ideas, all from some of the best costume designers that Hollywood has to offer!

Glad you liked the Michael Manning, BTW... of course, you need to have 2% body fat, and be a performer in Cirque Du Soliel to carry some of those designs off... but... Woof! Check out Midori's website sometime, and look under the costume design sub-page. "So Hip It Hurts" the custom latex clothing fabricator did a couple of his "courtesan" designs for her... He's also doing a tat design for me, which will be getting pushed into my skin aroud Christmastime.

Oh, and another designer who really trips my trigger (although he sadly doesn't do all that much for men) is Theirry Mugler. You may remember some of his designs for an old George Michael video called "Too Funky."

I read the title of your post and had to laugh...Not at you but I also have this phobia of looking like the Village People for some reason.

This issue does not only affect men. I don't do fetish wear. Granted I do like to dress up, but not in a freaky costume. Just wear what you will feel comfortable wearing, quality quality quality, and tweak it a bit with your own personal style.

Read Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series.  Yes, really.  No, don't laugh; though this be madness, yet there is method in it.  Pay attention to what Jean-Claude wears or makes other people wear.  The character has a flair for fashion (hey, he's French, it's in the contract) and a lot of it is bondage-esque and/or a combination of 17th century and modern.  You should be able to get some costuming ideas.

I actually love reading Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series... sad to say I have all her books on Anita.  What can I say Vampires arouse me.  One should dress comfortably, the old saying goes it is not what you wear but how you wear it.  (something like that).

Me too.  I've got all the Anita books as well as the faerie por...er, Merry Gentry series.  For femdom wardrobe, no one can beat Queen Andais.

I had roughly the same problem. Some clubs wont even let you in the door unless you are dressed 'fetish'. And I cant do rubber or leather because I get heat stroke and pass out.

A solution I found, one that works very well with damsel-in-distress bondage, is suits. Chicago gangster look. Gumshoe. Mifia don. Etc. Every girls crazy for a sharp dressed man.

Cost isnt outside the range of most other fetish clothing. But I do suggest you get custom taloring. A hundred dollar suit that has three hundred dollars worth of taloring is going to look better than an off the rack suit of five hundred.

I am altogether too lazy at 1AM to read all the posts, but I have to chime in here. I fully agree with Hungry Tiger. I actually keep my consort dressed like that often, and his own preference toward that style is part of what captivated me initially. In my case, I love the look of a slick suit with a collar. :D (Not relevant to the OP, of course!)

I'm partial to a "poet shirt" I picked up years ago.  Very roomy and nothing binding to restrict arm movement.  It looks well with a vest.
Leather jeans for cold weather.  Mediaval trews stuffed into high boots for warmer weather.

Decent looking and comfortable.

BTW... good prices at www.leathercat.com

Lederhosen.

LOL! Come on, now! He said "dominantly" (I'm not even sure that's a word!). Therefore, if he's going to do the lederhosen, he has to "accessorize" with jack boots! LOL!

Seriously, cute green faux-lederhosen that's sort of like a jumper with shorts is the hottest thing on a guy ever. *grin*

Suit and tie might work for you, or perhaps the Clockwork Orange look for a changeup, and a simple UnderArmor black shirt and crisp jeans for a relaxed look.  I've also seen male doms pick up a corsetted waistcoat or vest and look very Edwardian formal.

Edit: Pick up a copy of Esquire magazine.  You may become inspired by looking at some of the looks the top designers are putting out that are not typical "fetish" but might be up your alley.

What I mean by that is, you don't have to wear leather to BE leather...

International Master 2005 (I believe that was the year) Sir Stephen, won a leather title and NEVER wears a stitch of anything leather or rubber...He runs a victorian household and dresses the part...and he manages to pull off his Dom-dom quite well. It's all in your attitude and who you are as a person. So, you decide who you are and the clothing will come to you. My 2-cents.

While that first sentiment might be true in theory, you're only half correct in terms of actual competition within the "leather community."

I address this as a former international leather titleholder, having judged, staffed or produced a number of contests on a local, regional and international level.

International Master & Slave embraces a lifestyle of M/s & D/s and doesn't specifically tie to "leather".  The judges are specifically looking at the dynamic between the two partners competing as a pair.

In other contests -- American Leather (Man/boy, Woman/girl), Ms World Leather, International Mr/Ms Leather, and similar feeder contests -- leather IS a part of the contest and contestants are critically scored if they consistently appear on stage not in appropriate attire for their place in the leather world.  In the infamous words of Mr. Marcus Hernandez, Judge Emeritus for International Mr Leather and columnist for the Bay Area Reporter, "Do you know what the title is that you're running for?  OK, so where's your LEATHER?!?!?!?!?!"  A cheeky reply that 'leather is in my heart and soul' will only carry you so far with them.

That being said, I don't think this fellow is concerned with competing for a leather title.  He wants to look hot and look the role for his partner.  That's admirable.  I just don't think he has to be clad head to toe in leather like a Etienne or Tom of Finland posterboy to accomplish his mission.

Hmmm, tyrolian hat... do that Bavarian slappy dance and pop the sub on the off beat.

Damn, I want a film of that.  It would be a hit on youtube.

Warped sense of humor here...

Have to agree with the well taylored suits.  I also like leather jeans with black, burgundy or grey hued, button up  silk shirts.  I also have a penchent for tight black jeans on those with long legs and a nice ass.  My pet peeve....white sneakers, court shoes, or whatever the kids call tennis shoes these days.

Herkermer, you couldn't look like one of the Village people if you tried. so don't worry about it.:)  you would look good in a Pirate or a Poet shirt.

am I the only one that doesn't get the shivers for a man in a suit.... you can keep em...black combats, worn out tour t-shirt and big boots... oooh... that will get me dribbling... or oily tight fit jeans... a real MAN, one with strong hands and not afraid of his strength..... Oh why is MM working away this evening

Give me a man in jeans and a long sleeve button down anyday over a suit (why did they invent short sleeve business shirts, ugliest thing on earth).  Suits to me don't speak of power.... they conjure images of pasty aging men locked away in CBD's groping secretaries between board meetings and getting flabby around the middle, I dont know why but I find suits to be rather effeminate.  Give me a man with dirt under his fingernails and callouses on his hands.... so no you arent alone :)

I think a very very nice pair of leather pants,  with clean lines and no seams or pieced together,  can be paired with a dress shirt, a nice cashmere knit or even a basic t-shirt.  Northbound leather's jeans are fabu.. and Mr. S both have some very well made and beautiful pieces.  Of course you will pay for the quality but assuming you stay the same size these are investment pieces you will have a for a very long time.

I am an artist so aesthetics really matter to me, I too am very into rope bondage and it has to be equally pleasing to the eye as it is wickedly torturous for it to please me.
