Gratz to Al and his chins.
I really need to watch that movie of his someday, I am interested in knowing what about it would excite communists/socialists so much as to nominate him for this esteemed award.

If george could have stolen the prize,he`d be where Gore is now.Ha!

Maybe we can get the supreme court, to overturn the Nobel Commity, and hand the prize over to george.

Then it would all "legal-like".lol [image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m15.gif[/image]

The next few weeks are going to be filled with haters, who are just jealous of a good man.

Remember, these haters believe that Gore claimed to have "invented the Internet".With stupidity like that, you can expect all kinds of funny, silly, mean, vile, pathetic, player hate`n stuff,to come at Gore.

I must be a psychic .I predicted that the GOP victims, and the easily duped ,would mention this.lol

This sticks out..... makes me think, ahhhh, maybe Al does plan on running.

the supreme court should have ruled that they figure it out- one or the other takes office for 2 yrs and cant run again, while a real election is done.

Who would I nominate?   Not relevant.   The  Nobel Committee had a choice from 199 people/groups and picked Al Gore and the UN subcommittee.   About an issue (global warming) that is still debated and unresolved.  In a documentary that exaggerated risks and outcomes. And a documentary relating to science, not peace.

But hey, their choice and their money...I just personally feel that Alfred Nobel would have choosen differently for a Peace Prize, even from the "leaked list" of possible nominees.  Of course, I'm sure he'd have felt differently about several of the previous winners.

Perhaps they should change it to the "Peace and Politics" prize......

Nicely said.  Can someone...anyone...explain to me how a flawed documentary ( so flawed that when it is shown in classrooms in Great Britain, the flaws are gone through beforehand with the class along with a statement that a consensus of scientists is not proof of anything, that rather proof is in verifiable evidence and that there are indeed other scientists whose verifiable evidence disputes the consensus of the global-warming chicken littles) that decries the vile and wasteful nature of human beings while extolling the peaceful loveliness of an untouched environment ...until we humans came along of course...uplifts human beings specifically and humanity on the whole?

...not having read Gore's autobiography i was not aware of his having cut the number of ships in the US navy. Thanks for the heads up. Mind you, i'm not sure how that makes him directly responsible for the deaths of people aboard the USS Cole......wouldn't the terrorists have a piece of that?
However, on the point you make regarding the use of the film in classrooms......all history is, to some extent, partisan. All criticism of literature is, of necessity, biased by the mind of the author. Basically, it seems to me, that as long as Gore's film is accompanied by explanatory notes it has value in a classroom setting.

I don't doubt that there is indeed value in watching it, I was just amused by the timing of the conflicting 'awards'.

As far as the Cole goes, of course I don't see any indication of Gore directly causing the explosion...
But someone in his position, who knew or should have known about the trial runs against other ships of the same class in the same situation (unsecured ports), and who knew the security reasons behind replenishment at sea, but still brags about dismantling the practice, can hardly be thought of as blameless.
Sometimes politicians make a decision for political gain,  and the consequences suck for other people... this appears to be such a case.

And this above quote is exactly why I have a difficult time paying attention to any of your "opinions", Owner.  I would like to listen to/read something, but you seldom give Me anything to listen to/read.  It appears you either do not have a response, or you are so elitest that you do not feel it is worthwhile to explain.  If one does not automatically understand (and agree with) your view of things, they are not worth your time?
Do you have an argument that is clear an concise?
If so, make it.
If not, stand down.

Semantics?  A documentary that has to have a disclaimer done by teachers before they show it is NOT flawed?  I see no semantic argument in my statement.

As for my question...while mostly rhetorical, I don't think there is an answer that makes sense.  And apparently...judging by the answers of many others on here...I am not the only one who thinks so.  And it has nothing to do with my level of intelligence though it might have quite a bit to do with not being easily misled by a doomsayer.

Working to increase the availability of the Internet is not inventing it; Vint & Bob would be the first to agree that Gore didn't invent it.  Nor was there just one guy who "invented" the internet.

For more info, look into the book Where Wizards Stay Up Late: The Origins of the Internet, by Katie Hafner and Matthew Lyon.

Anyone else find it a tad ironic that someone who championed the internet, which increases global warming due to power usage worldwide, wins an award for warning against global warming ?
