When you Give a compliment to Someone, Would you consider the answer {ok} a bad turn off. Just curious~

Im not sure I would be turned off by it.

When I do something nice for somebody, and their response is abrasive or dismissive, it doesnt really make me overly willing to do any more nice things for them.

But I want to caveat this by saying that such responses are customary in this society.

For example:

I give person X a present.

They respond "You shouldnt have."

It is a programmed response from their upbringing, used in place of saying "Thank you."

It's not the preferred response, but it doesn't turn me off.

Some people don't handle compliments well.

It could also be that what you said as a compliment was not received as such or was considered inappropriate.

It may have been bad timing or lack of attention.

There are a hundred reasons why you didn't get the expected response. But....when you compliment someone....do you do so because you believe it is true....or is it given to bring attention to you?

<winks>

It depends on the compliment and how many times I've recieved it during that day or by liars.

Now mind you I love recieving compliments, and can blush easily by them since I actually rarely get them.
Most popular is 'You look nice" well thank you but no, I'm still not interested in taking you on
