I didn't know that.  I was never in the military.  I heard dark thirty for just after dusk since I was a kid from all my elders.

Wouldn't be the first term to morph meanings as it went from one setting to another.

pinksugarsub -> RE: Do you still latch onto some "old terms"? (11/13/2007 1:07:57 PM)

Our vocabulary in the '70's was so rich and generation-specific.

*'Right on!'  (agrees vigoursly.)

*Groovy (loosley translated as would appeal to someone stoned.)

*Black Power! [Fist in the air]  (probably self-explanatory.)

*Turn on (something appealing, usually a sexual attractrant.)

*Make love, not war (seems self-explanatory.)

*Cool (various meanings, all good.)

If i thought about it i could go on; doesn't seem to me today's slang is as rich and meaningful, and i sure don't feel silly saying it like i should as an over-30.

This thread is for me!
I am soooooooooo "old school" and I love it.

I prefer to use the term "old school" than "old terms" or outdated, played out, time warp, etc.

I have so many terms I am not sure where to start, here are a few of my current favorites:

dude, freak, twisted, freak of the week, talk to the hand, I keep it real, make my day.......the list is endless.

Damn gremlins! They're always causing somthing around here to break down.

For those who know beyond the movie "Gremlins" The term Gremlins was used by air plane mechanics in WWII as there excuse for everything that broke or went wrong.

As a Pilot, even Bugs Bunny had to deal with a very naughty gremlin.

My idea of an "old term" is saying "Sike!" or "Not"

Or, to my brothers....you are such a Jerk!!!  And they would say, "thanks!  I'm a Junior Educated Rich Kid"

FangsNfeet -> RE: Do you still latch onto some "old terms"? (11/15/2007 7:50:57 PM)

Anyone say "Bang, zoom, to the Moon!" to there sub lately?

addisonclarkgirl -> RE: Do you still latch onto some "old terms"? (11/15/2007 8:05:20 PM)

I'm an elementary teacher, and one thing that drives me up the wall (along with some of the other teachers) is when kids say, "So and so cut me."  I'm like "No one cut you.  I don't see a knife.  You're not bleeding.  The term is 'so and so cut in front of me!!'"
