LadyLynx -> Songs that make you think, or cry.......or............ (11/10/2007 6:58:44 PM)

yesterday evening I was thinking about a song I hadn't heard in a long while. The song Oklahoma by Billy Gilman.  Now sad songs aren't usually my thing. (same with movies. I prefer comedy.) Right from the 1st time I saw the video I would tear up.  So my question to you is: what song(s) make you cry? what songs make you think?

Some other songs that I like:
Bitch-Meredith Brooks (One of my theme songs.heh.)
Sacred Tantrum-Joules Graves (another theme song.)
Star of the County Down- many artists. (old celtic song.)
Grease sdtrk.
just to name a few. lol

*been so long since I have posted a thread, kinda forgotten how!*

The covers were still warm where you'd been layin'.
You were gone...
My heart was filled with dread.
You might not be sleepin' here again

[Chorus:]
It's alright, 'cause I love you.
And that's not gonna change.
Run me round, make me hurt again and again.
But I'll still sing you love songs
Written in the letters of your name.
And brave the storm to come,
For it surely looks like rain.

Did you ever waken to the sound
Of street cats makin' love
And guess from their cries
You were listenin' to a fight?
Well, you know...
Hate's just the last thing they're thinkin' of.
They're only trying to make it through the night.

[Chorus:]

I only want to hold you.
I don't want to tie you down.
Or fence you in the lines
I might have drawn.
It's just that I've gotten used to
Havin' you around.
My landscape would be empty
If you were gone.

[Rain, rain, go away...]

And the hours go by like minutes
And the shadows come to stay
So you take a little something to
Make them go away
And I could have done so many things, baby
If I could only stop my mind...

Good stuff! *hands erin a hankie* [;)]

Now who'd a thunk this song would apply today as it did back then?

For What It's Worth -  Buffalo Springfield

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

I'm not saying these make me cry, but I'm not saying they don't......

Blake Shelton - The Baby http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRm9fSy2teA

Shelton again - Goodbye Time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3kwod1sjNM

If we had known our love would come to this
We could have saved our hearts the hurt of wasted years
Well it's been fun - what else can I say
If the feeling's gone words won't stop you anyway

If being free's worth what you leave behind
And if it's too late for love to change your mind
Then it's goodbye time

Thought I heard a blackbird singin'
up on Bluebird Hill
Call me a whinin' boy if you will
Born where the sun don't shine
and I don't deny my name
Got no place to go, ain't that a shame?

Thought I heard that KC whistle
moanin' sweet & low
Thought I heard that KC when she blow
Down where the sun don't shine
Underneath the Kokomo
Whinin' boy -- got no place else to go

So many roads I tell you
So many roads I know
So many roads --
so many roads --
Mountain high, river wide
So many roads to ride
So many roads
So many roads

Thought I heard a jug band playin'
"If you don't -- who else will?"
from over on the far side of the hill
All I know the sun don't shine,
the rain refuse to fall
and you don't seem to hear me when I call

Wind inside & the wind outside
Tangled in the window blind
Tell me why you treat me so unkind
Down where the sun don't shine
Lonely and I call your name
No place left to go, ain't that a shame?

So many roads I tell you
New York to San Francisco
All I want is one
to take me home
From the high road to the low
So many roads I know
So many roads - So many roads

From the land of the midnight sun
where ice blue roses grow
'long those roads of gold and silver snow
Howlin' wide or moanin low
So many roads I know
So many roads to ease my soul

"Ladies and Gentlemen", Saliva.

Because, whenever I start doing stupid things like neglecting my work to screw around on these boards, I can listen to, "Do you want it?  Do you need it?".. and I remember what I want and need.. how hard it can be to get, how painful it can be to have my ego smacked around by something consquential.. but how much that I truly do need to grow.

This'll just make you boogie.

In the classical sense...

Man Smart, Woman Smarter.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2110819640372527396

Let us put men and women together
See which one is smarter
Some say men, but I say no
The women got the men like a puppet show

Believe me, it's the people that say
That the men are leading the women astray
But I say that the women today
Are smarter than the men in every way

Chorus
That's right, the women are smarter
That's right, the women are smarter
That's right, the women are smarter
The women are smarter than the men today

Little boy sit on the corner and cry
Big man come and he ask him why
Says I can't do what the big boys do
Man sat down and he cried too

It ain't me, but the people who say
That the men are leading the women astray
But I say that the women today
Are smarter than the men in every way

[chorus]

Ever since the world began
Women been imitating the ways of men
But listen cause I've got a plan
Give it up, just don't try to understand

[chorus]

songs that make ya think right?

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Find The Cost of Freedom

Daylight again, following me to bed
I think about a hundred years ago, how my fathers bled
I think I see a valley, covered with bones in blue
All the brave soldiers that cannot get older been askin' after
you
Hear the past a callin', from Ar- -megeddon's side
When everyone's talkin' and noone is listenin', how can we
decide?

(Do we) find the cost of freedom, buried in the ground

Mother earth will swallow you, lay your body down
Find the cost of freedom, buried in the ground
Mother earth will swallow you, lay your body down
(Find the cost of freedom buried in the ground)

Crosby Stills & Nash - Teach Your Children

You who are on the road
Must have a code that you can live by
And so become yourself
Because the past is just a good bye.

Teach your children well,
Their father's hell did slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picked, the one you'll know by.

Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you would cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

And you, of tender years,
Can't know the fears that your elders grew by,
And so please help them with your youth,
They seek the truth before they can die.

Teach your parents well,
Their children's hell will slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picked, the one you'll know by.

Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you would cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

Conway Twitty - That's My Job I woke up crying, late at night,
When I was very young.
I had dreamed my father,
had passed away and gone.
My world revovled around him.
I couldn't lie there anymore.
So I made my way,
Down the mirrored hall,
And tapped upon his door.
And I said :
"Daddy, I'm so afraid,
How will I go on with you gone that way?
Don't want to cry anymore.
So may I stay with you?"
And he said :
"That's my job.
That's what I do.
Everything I do is because of you,
To keep you safe with me.
That's my job you see."

Later we barely got along,
This teenage boy and he.
Most of the fights it seems,
Were over different dreams,
We each held for me.
He wanted knowledge and learning.
I wanted to fly out west.
Said I could make it out there,
If I just had the fare,
I got half will you loan me the rest?
And I said :
"Daddy, I'm so afraid.
There's no garuntee,
In the plans I've made.
And if I should fail?
Who will pay my way back home?"
And he said :
"That's my job.
That's what I do.
Everything I do is because of you,
To keep you safe with me.
That's my job you see."

Every person carves his spot,
And fills the hole with light.
And I pray someday I might,
Light as bright as he.

Woke up early one bright fall day,
To spread the tragic news.
After all my travel,
I settled down,
Within a mile or two.

I make my living with words and ryhme.
And all this tragedy,
Should go into my head,
And out instead,
As bits of poetry.
But I say:
"Daddy, I'm so afraid,
How will I go on,
With you gone this way?
How can I come up,
With a song to say I love you?
That's my job.
That's what I do.
Everything I do is because of you,
To keep you safe with me.
That's my job you see.
Everything I do is because of you,
To keep you safe with me."
