Insomnia is pretty common for women. I used hypnosis on my slave to help her with this problem. I clear her mind of the million thoughts going through her head which keep her from sleeping.

BTW pink you have mail.

Anyway, on to your question.

The answer, a candle. After you light it, play with it a bit like blowing on it and such, start really looking at it.

Close your eyes for the first few minutes. When you open them stare at the flame. Start thinking, every step the flame takes in it's little dance is caused by air currents. You cause them. Every time you exhale or move a part of your body you affect the flame.

Try to reach a calm with the flame, and I didn't say it was easy. Stop moving, breathe very carefully. You can never stop affecting the flame no matter what you do, but try.

When you have reached calm with the flame, close your eyes and go to bed. Make damn sure the flame is safe. With your eyes closed take the image of the flame to bed with you. You do not need to know if the actual flame has burnt out yet, you only need the image.

As you lay there trying to sleep, concentrate on the flame. Or more aptly put, the image of the flame. Realize that now you can breathe freely without disturbing it. Realize what it actually is, a flame. Realize that you are part of a much bigger flame. Control your breathing even though you know you do not have to. Become friends with the image of the flame, make it part of you, like a sister or something. Embrace it in your mind.

This is all from a very old book, a book that changed my life. It explained how many things are, and you can't get it anymore. Go figure.

The book was called "The Occult" and I think my sister has it now. The very first words in the book were the definition of occult, it said simply : that which is hidden. Occult means nothing supernatural, and indeed I believe in my own mind that there really is nothing supernatural. It is hard to explain, but in time you get the idea. Even if St Peter really is at the pearly gates when you get there, it is a part of nature.

You could concievably just light a lighter or somethiung, but they burn out too quickly. You need time, time to just let it all go. Then you will sleep. The idea of this is to concentrate on one thing, something that is not solid or liquid.

I have to give you one warning though, you use this to get to sleep, if it works great, but if you keep doing it it will change your mind. I mean this is an excercise for sorcerers, if you keep doing it, you will find yourself changed. I would think for the better, but you need to consider that, consider if you want that.

And there is no turning back.

Everything in life fades, and eventually all that matters is the flame. All the threads in your mind align, and you are no longer afraid. You are no longer concerned about any occurrences outside of you and the flame, and the dynamic between. The flame is part of you, and you are a part of the flame.

All my science and technology is out the window now, because this is a different way of thinking. The flame controls you just as you control the flame. Don't breathe, in that way you give the flame it's own space so to speak. Try not to do anything. Try not to disturb the flame. After all it does not disturb you.

Consider it a challenge not to affect the flame in any way. This means not breathing on it, all of that. When the flame reaches a "calm", you reach a "calm" if you have connected with the flame.

Fire is considered a force by humans, and I guess it is. In this way it is not so much that you Master it, but you get in touch with it.

This is one of the most powerful mental exercises that you can do. Don't do it too much or you'll wind up like me, knowing more than you want to know. No the flame does not teach, but it inspires curiousity. Use it to sleep for now, take that one image of the flame to bed, later, if youi want to explore, do more.

I know a few more mental exercises like that, but really, I do not want to reveal them. This candle thing is pretty innocuous if it is not overdone. But really, if you start doing it every day, you may or may not like the changes in yourself. Do it twice a week max.

This technique tends to produce a vacuum in your mind, and no matter what your age, you will hunger for knowledge like a five year old. This is a one way street.

Actually now that I think of it, it only reveals a vacuum. It was already there in most people.

But I warn you now, it might take a couple of tries to do this, but once it is done, do not do it more than twice a week, if you do, well it doesn't really hurt you. But the knowledge you subsequently gain might. I wish I didn't know what I know, and I wish I were ignorant, so I could experience some bliss. I can't.

Twice a week no more. One month of this (twenty years ago)  and I am so different, I mean I do not even feel human anymore. I advocate executions and all that. You get too far into this you will, to say the least, no longer be a social butterfly. If that is what you want, fine, but if it is not, stick to twice a week.

I have a couple of other tricks, but I decided to make this one public. Try not to misuse it.

When i can't sleep i like to read, as long as it isn't too exciting. One thing many professionals say is that just lying in bed for a long time staring at the clock is not good. If Y/you can't sleep, get up and do something. Or at least turn the clock so Y/you can't see what time it is. i hope this helps!

Pink, I think you need hard drugs.  Knowing a bit about you and your problem, I doubt any mind techniques are going to help you out.
When thoughts go through my mind I clear them out.  I'm usually out within minutes.  Of course that isn't any solice to you.

There are a lot of different techniques the so called experts tell you.  Never do anything in bed but sleep.  If you can't sleep get out of bed.  It goes on and on.
I've never practiced any of there techniques and I have no problems at all sleeping.

The same sleep experts cannot give you a sleeping pill?

It's not an unusual cure, but Valerian root taken at night can do wonders in aiding sleep.  Take some about an hour before your intended bedtime and see what happens.

Okay so I'm not trying to start anything here, but....DO NOT take ANY medication of herbal suppliment without first consulting your physician.
I get insomnia from hell sometimes too.....stretching before I spend a couple of minutes breathing the night air helps me calm my mind to sleep.

I've had trouble with insomnia since I was seven.  I've had doctors willing to prescribe me sleep aids, but I never wanted to be dependent on them.

I take Melatonin (the brand I use is Source Naturals, it has a milky mint taste that i love).  It's an herbal supplement known as a sublingual.  It's given me the most natural feeling sleep... the kind where you very very slowly begin to relax and drift off to sleep.

Talk to your doctor about it before taking it though.  Sometimes even herbal supplements can react with certain medications

Seconded. I can't remember the last time I slept for more than three hours two nights in a row. Ya get used to it, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I use to get insomnia a lot more than I do now.  I figured out the cause of mine thank god.  Then I used the hypnosis trick on myself when I get it now.

What I found was giving me insomnia was my electric blanket.  It was like I was sucking up all the energy off it.  Some times I felt like I could glow.  When I visit my parents and talk to my mom while she is under the bed covers if i touch her skin like rubbing her I feel the electricity thru her.  Many times I get a shock and yes I have touched other things so it is not from the rug or what ever.

Any way now I stay away from electric blankets or mattress covers.  I use comforters and regular blankets.

I also do a quick hypnosis of a yard stick.  Counting down from 1 to 36 breathing a nice deep breath every five counts then saying over and over again relax.  I also use the thought of melting my muscles from my head to my toes.  By number 36 I am normally out cold.

There is one problem. There is a significant contingent of people, I believe smart people, who do not do drugs.

If a doctor gives you a piece of paper that does not change the fact that you are doing drugs.

I have not taken an aspirin in over tweny years, maybe twenty five. My tooth has capped itself, my knee joints have repaired themselves, I mean really at one time I could barely walk. Barely. Now I can stand up from the Akido position, STRAIGHT up.

I have physical problems yes, but some of them are taken care of. People tell me I am wrong, as they go in for their treatments, and their medications, notice how they do not call it medicine anymore.

Listen to them, I won't waste my time typoing about it. Die, in agony. Now I am not afraid of death, but I want to die standing up. Perhaps this is a lost goal, perhaps this is what the human race really has lost. Perhaps I am one of a dying breed, and perhaps that is the natural order of things.

Let it be then. You do what you do and I will do what I do. And you couldn't do what I do anyway. I fast for days and then eat things that are very rich in minerals. My absorption qoutient is so high now, I am really getting afraid. Not of dying, but of living. I really brelive at this point that I will die alone, because all of my friends will be dead. They will not listen, they will not inproive the real quality of their diet. They are weak.

The real change comes when you discard taste as a criterium for what you eat. I am not saying this is easy, but when you eat Brazil nuts instead of pistachios, you are headed in the right direction. You must research, and dig up some dirt to have a private garden.

You must learn that plants are tools for us, meant to convert the minerals in the ground into a form that we can absorb.

When you come to this realization, then you will get really healthy.

I am not perfectly healthy, but my endocrine system is OK, and I haven't seen a doctor of any kind in over twenty years. I think more, possibly twenty five.

Now this is personal experience from me to you, want cites and quotes ? I got almost a gigabyte of disk for you. This is way too big for email.

I used that information and I believe that I would have been dead without it. I don't jump to conclusions, I am very careful about that.

Now, with a bit of help and instruction from me, my Dad astounds the doctors with what he knows. One asked "How do you know all this ?". I mean he refuses to take ACE inhibitors or calcium blockers, and a few other things. But remember he raised me, he is even more dominant than I, and there were times he actually had them sweating. They made a mistake, we caught them, they were sweating bullets. That because they knew what he told them was correct.

Their mistake was indeed actionable, but we could not quantify the loss in dollars. Therefore it was never persued, but after that, things changed. They now knew that he was not an idiot. That he would not just take any pill they give him. And die on time.

So do not take their pills. It is that simple. Solve these probems, don't just medicate them. It really is that simple.

i get insomnia all the time. i have always had a problem with it.  What works for me is to lie flat on the bed. Breathe in and out, concentrating only on the breathing, try not to think of anything else. After a while, for me, it feels like the bed is swaying in time with my breathing, like a rocking boat.

i also try to visualise the tension in my body as a liquid or an energy that is draining out through my fingers and feet. i picture if flowing out of me, relaxing each part of the body as it leaves. i concentrate on consicously relaxing every muscle.

Alternatively, a hot bath and herbal tea work wonders... the heat pulls all the tension from my body. Orgasms are a great sleep aide too. A couple of good ones and you'll sleep like a baby.

What you should not do (that i did tonight *sigh*) is do something mentally engaging... puzzles, surfing, etc. because you become more alert and awake.

hope some of this helps.

Just control your breathing, repeat a simple mantra one word for inhaling and one for exhaling.  Concentrating on the inhalation and exhalation will clear your mind of those annoying thoughts whirling around in your head.  If your like me, when you realize you can't sleep, you get anxious and your heart starts to race.  I find that by reapeating the mantra (for me i use 2 nonsense words "ba" for inhaling and "doo" for exhaling) you are given an anchor for the breathing concentration, which will slow your heart-rate and eventually "trick" your mind into sleep.  when you can ignore the sleep problem, it will go away, unlike the bully from 3rd grade.

I don't have a cure pink, sorry.  If I did, I wouldn't be reading your post at 1:00am  That said, I have the same problem once a month.  I've even stayed awake after taking a sleeping pill.  I've been told it could be related to my period, and I've actually found that to be true.
Good luck on your sweet dreams!  Oh, one thing that does work for me "sometimes" and that's counting backwards.  I start from 100 and I often have to do it a few times... *me thinks I'll try a higher number tonight*
