Auugh, I began collecting quotes and witticisms as a kid and have boxes of little journal books filled with them. I always keep 3 or 4 books by my bedside and blindly pick one to start my day with.

Today's was...

People are like stained-glass windows.  They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in their true beauty is revealed only if there is light from within.  ~Elisabeth Kübler-Ross

and

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.  ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Aww thanks!

Mae West had another quote I used to love as well. Something about being as pure as the driven...slush. LOL

Hi there divi!

here's a good one for the weekend:
~....and once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return.~  Leonardo da Vinci

Waving hi to jo. I am feeling better! Let's chat soon to get caught up, ok? I know that Mae west quote.

I was pure as the driven snow, then I drifted.-- Mae West This is another one of my favorites:
"When choosing between two evils I always like to take the one I've never tried before."- Mae West

My favorite wit is Dorothy Parker. Here are some of her quotes that I love:

"Brevity is the soul of lingerie."

"You can lead a horticulture, but you can't make her think. "

"That would be a good thing for them to cut on my tombstone: Wherever she went, including here, it was against her better judgment."

"The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity."

"They sicken of the calm, who knew the storm."

"You can't teach an old dogma new tricks."

"There is no such hour on the present clock as 6:30, New York time. Yet, as only New Yorkers know, if you can get through the twilight, you'll live through the night."

"I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy."

"I had been fed, in my youth, a lot of old wives' tales about the way men would instantly forsake a beautiful woman to flock around a brilliant one. It is but fair to say that, after getting out in the world, I had never seen this happen."

"I wish I could drink like a lady,
I'll have one or two at the most.
Three and I'm under the table,
Four and I'm under the host."

"If you want to know what the Lord God thinks of money, just look at those to whom he gives it."

"It serves me right for putting all my eggs in one bastard"

"She delivered a striking performance that ran the gamut of emotions, from A to B."

"That woman speaks 18 languages and can't say 'no' in any of them."

"There's a hell of a difference between wisecracking and wit. Wit has truth in it; wisecracking is just calisthenics with words."

"This wasn't just plain terrible, this was fancy terrible. This was terrible with raisins in it."

"What fresh hell is this?"

Tallulah Bankhead: "Why, it's as easy as ducking for apples."
Dorothy Parker: "Hah, change one letter in that sentence and you've got the story of my life."

"The Constitution only gives people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself." - Benjamin Franklin

"Our attitude towards what has happened to us in life is the important thing to recognize. Once hopeless, my life is not hope-full, but it did not happen overnight. The last of human freedoms, to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, is to choose one's own way." - Victor Frankl

"A politician is an animal which can sit on a fence and yet keep both ears to the ground. " - H.L. Menken

Lev's sig line brought this one to mind...

"Each of us has within us a dark chamber where our deepest desires flower; and the horror of it, is that they rarely see the light of another's understanding. Those strange blooms, flowering quietly in the dark, with no one to appreciate their beauty."  Anne Rice Another of my favorites.

Don’t let the sun go down on an argument because that’s when most murders are committed. Richard 2007

Someone else probably said it too, I rarely make up quotes but rather I just don’t know the origin.

Forgive me if I rehash stuff already on the internet for my brain is a sponge and so absorbs dirt too. Richard 2007

A libertarian is someone who can believe that the police are no more than a gang of thugs without realizing that in the absence of police, thugs will gather into gangs.

There is a technical term for someone who confuses the opinions of a character in a book with those of the author. That term is idiot.

Both are Stephen Michael Stirling

I hopped in on the thread to post a new quote and saw all your recent entries. What a delight! Thank you so much everyone for sharing your favorites here.

Elaine: I saw your sig quote when I first came on cm and put it on my fave quotes doc right away.

I am dashing off to a  x'mas bdsm shibari party, so I will just share this quote one of my pets sent to me this morning:

How sweet are thy maidens
oh, land of the green!

The heart is entranced by the charming Colleen
