The USPS delivers mail on Yom Kippur, which is arguably a much more solemn occasion.

From the simple fact that they wouldn't have enough staff on hand?

Not a matter of solemnity, just look at all the other holidays they don't deliver on.

i offered to work christmas day when i worked retail, because i'm a pagan....they declined, since they werent open.

wolf has wored c-stores (7-11 or Kwiky-Mart types) for ages as a manager...he split holidays into 3 hour shifts and required EVERYONE to work them unless they traded off with someone else (in his presence, in writing).

his opinion has been better that everyone lose a little time with their families than to be unfair to anyone.

When I worked i80 gas station i loved when non-christians ranted how nothing is open. sorta cynical pleasure telling em the closest food was the Ohio line. [4 hours away] lol

I count care less about christmas day..but what I want to know is...why the hell isnt my mail that was promised to be delivered two days ago still not here? If they are going to be slow, they need to not guarentee three day delivery.

They aren't allowed to sale alcohol on Christmas here.  That's a fucking travesty.  How the hell am I supposed to deal with friends and family without booze to numb my senses?

ladyleopard945 -> RE: Why isn't my mail delivered on Christmas Day? (12/20/2007 4:45:34 PM)

i remember working the holidays (Christmas and New Year's Day) when i was a assistant manager/server for IHoP ...we're always open every single day of the year.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Why isn't my mail delivered on Christmas Day? (12/20/2007 5:21:30 PM)

You know why it is a Federal holiday as much as anyone. If someone wants another one, petition the government. If you want one removed, tell your public servants.

So how many people out there want to volunteer to work Christmas day, every year for the rest of your life? Either stand behind your principles or not.

I wonder if there is a world somewhere in the Universe where everyone gets his or her way?  Until we find that place the majority will usually rule.

My My… if there is a God you so called atheists have a rude awakening…if there is no God well…. I’ll never know but I’ll die thinking I have a future. All you have to look forward to on your deathbed is to rot in the cold ground.

I feel sorry for you.

Wouldn't it be cool if employees and civil servants alike were given a choice of, say, 12 official 'holidays' to spend as they wished in addition to their vacation entitlement each year?

NovaDragon -> RE: Why isn't my mail delivered on Christmas Day? (12/20/2007 7:33:17 PM)

Isn't it ironic?  People want to take "In God We Trust" off of our money, take "under God" out of the Pledge of Allegiance, and we can't display the Ten Commandments in government buildings, yet the Federal Government is closed on the day Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

What's even funnier is that Jesus wasn't even born on December 25th!

97% pecent of them would choose Christmas Day anyway making it not worth the tax payer money to remain open.

Again, this is lack of availability.

I worked at a company in the past, that would allow you to swap out a few holidays; Yom Kippur or the solstice for Christmas, etc.  We employed folks from an incredibly wide range of religions.

I frankly don't need your sorrow.  And the fact that folks aren't Christian (or maybe your brand of Christian) doesn't mean that people don't think that they have a future at death.  Note the religions that believe in reincarnation, for instance.
