I'm on a private e-mail list of the fellow who sent me the link. He was collecting pledges from his subscribers on the woman's behalf until midnite tonight. I sent mine in already. The deadline has passed, and off the top of my head, I don't know of any other method to contribute. But I could write to the author of the list, and inquire on your behalf.

Its unconscionable and an insult to this family that this happened. I do believe mistakes can be made honestly, but to then ignore the situation created by this unfortunate event is unthinkable. Especially when you see people making such a show of giving this time of year when they normally wouldn't. I do think that if this had been a bombshell good looking woman there would have been a lot more help. Its been proven people help the most attractive women and the plain-janes are left to their own devices. Sorry, I'm drained, and soon to be even more drained, my real estate taxes are due in 4 days and its going to have to go on my credit card so much as I feel empathy for her, I'm afraid I can't help. But it is unforgivable to do this and think they can walk away. Also, to say that they would "try" to find some money so SHE CAN CLEAN her apartment is just wrong. It would be very overwhelming knowing where to start and it should be made right for her not by her. The best help would be if the citizens of this community would let it be known they won't tolerate such indifference.

SWAT procedures must have changed alot, or they were not followed. Usually confirmation of a suspect being inside is required before a full breach assault is launched. The city could call an environmental clean up company that would come in and clean the place, and then bill the city. All of that CS has to be neutralized and cleaned up. Residue takes months to lose potency.

I neglected to add that while I contributed myself, I actually believe that this method of responding to the situation send the wrong message to police departments in general. I believe it would have been better for me to call the offending police department, voice my opinion, and ask how they intend to correct or improve upon the situation. But I've been down with the flu these past few days, and took the path of least resistance instead.

The Police really need to be careful and get the right address. There have been cases of criminals knocking on doors claiming to be police officers especially at night and then forcing their way inside a dwelling to rob the occupants. Unless I'm expecting someone I don't answer the door after dark. And if someone breaks the door down and comes charging in yelling "police" as these criminals do I have a Sig-Sauer 9mm right on the desk next to my monitor with "Talon" ammunition in it that will rip right through a vest like a hot knife through butter.

In addition to the police getting the correct address, those who are assigned to these type of operations shouldn't enjoy their work so much! This isn't the first report I've read about a government goon squad that both enjoyed and went overboard with the amount of damage that they inflicted.

It's okay to be skeptical, especially when we only see one side of the story. However, if you had watched the clip to the end, you would know that the police chief declined to be interviewed. This was a huge fuck up, and the Lawernceburg Gov needs to be held accountable. Looking around, I see this did happen in a hot pursuit scenario, of a violent criminal who had already shot someone. So I do understand why the Police would be happy they (thought) they had the guy. But to leave a citizen out to dry like that for damages caused in a legitimate pursuit seems wrong. I would imagine the Officials had no comment as there will certainly be a lawsuit against the city, and they have a duty to listen to the lawyers for the city, who would certainly tell them to make no public statements. But the pressure should be kept up to correct this injustice. I often disagree with Subfever on these type issues, but this time he is spot on and exactly right.

Yes, it's quite possible that the police chief declined to be interviewed, under advice from legal council. I would imagine that there will always be some exceptions, but my guess is that the great majority of our citizenry would not file a lawsuit, if the perpetuators of mistakes like these would promptly fess up to the mistake, and take immediate steps to make the victim whole again. It seems not only immoral, but also foolish to leave a victim of your mistake hanging in a difficult position for days on end, due to your mistake. This gives the suffering victim too much time to think in terms of retaliation. But then, I may be a victim of my own wishful thinking.

As I understand it the US is falling over itself with lawyers eager to right wrongs. Therefore it seems to me that we are now getting closer to the truth. ie the police fucked up and are seeking to limit damages. Another question to be asked...where did they get the info. that the repeat offender was in that apartment ? Surely someone must have told them NO?

Seeks I googled it and it was a hot pursuit event, they thought they followed the guy into that appartment, set up a siege and then went in. IF they had caught the guy they would be lauded as heros, but they fucked up. It happens.

this happened where i lived as a child. sherrifs went up our mountain and into the wrong house, dragging naked women and lil ones up out of bed to hold at gunpoint while they ransacked the home looking for drugs that were never there. they were on the wrong mountain. the family won a million plus in court. this woman needs to get legal help ASAP, that police dept should pay for everything to be cleaned repaired and replaced. is there any more info on her status now??? (prayers go forth...)

this is criminal behavior by those supposed to protect us, it's unforgivable. she should take them to court and win big, iut's up to the cops to make sure they have the right place, not the citizens to prove their innocence. PM

I'm going to echo Seeks on this one, in that I wonder what we're not hearing about this case. It's possible this is just an asshole dept., who think they can get away with saving a few bucks, but I would like to know more before I go whipping out my checkbook. Why did the cops target that apartment?

I think it's funny they are saying they will "try to" replace her belongings. Clearly, they HAVE TO replace everything. She did nothing wrong and they caused her damage. Even where the suspect is the person whose place they break into they pay to replace things sometimes. I hope a good attorney contacted her based on that video because they need to change that tune.
